This is a con. The only way it can be done is if the "student" plays along with the gag and jumps away. It not only can not be done, I'll give Michael Philips $5,000 on the spot if he can make me jump away like that without hitting me. This is not tai chi. It's a con. My $5,000 offer has existed for 10 years but so far, none of the con artists who pretend they have supernatural powers have taken me up on it because they know I have to play along for it to work.
@crackypwns Crackypwns, you said "whether this is real or not I can't clarify." You should expect more from yourself than that type of response. If I see David Copperfield levitate a woman, I can tell you with complete confidence that it is a trick, and the woman is playing along by lying on the device that will levitate her. It doesn't take any depth of critical thinking skills to "clarify." Likewise, there are so many frauds like this "nice man" on the video - you should know better.
@kungfukennyg Do you disagree with the countless stories of GM Hong Jun Shen and the stories of people like Chen FaKe (I think him too) being able to completely uproot people with hardly any effort :)?
@crackypwns These stories get much more elaborate as time passes. These people were not superhuman. I worked for several hours this weekend on techniques where you can damage someone without barely seeming to move. What you are doing is using correct body mechanics. The stories of the old dead masters get more fantastic over time, leading some people to think they must have had "powers." They didn't. They had skill.
@kungfukennyg lol I understand what you're saying...and to be totally honest, I believe that Tai Chi IS body mechanics and nothing mystical at all... it's just that I've personally trained with people that 'uproot' people.
If you know who GM Hong Jun Shen is, you'l realise that this he has nothing to gain by faking a video....have a look and please let me know what you think :) Kind Regards.
@kungfukennyg this is real. but his level is no 4. the movement is grade 3 middle class. you must master the basic is to' let go' internal class basic standard
at 1:28 his foot is off the ground and a fee frame later it is off again. he was talking about being rooted, that is not rooted. THERE is a lot of movment in taiji look at eh chen pao choi routines and there is lots of movement as in the weapons sets not to speak of xinjia
interesting...but what do you think of sifu luke of japan.. his explanation of the energy transfer seems pretty straight forward... i want to also ask why is it that the chinese teachers are so 'anal' about teaching? is it just because they don't like foreigners that they don't teach us the truth? why do we waste so many years and stay completely weak because of a lack of instruction?
@kingofaikido its because teachers have to gain trust in you but to learn these stuff fast its better to learn it yourself threw nature (chi) meditation, eternal alchemy feeling the chi inside you thats what teacher dont tell you first. doing chi before the form is better be Open Minded(Accept all information and learn from all information) open minded
@nhiadrk1 Be open minded by all means - but if you actually have to suspend your intelligence for this to make sense, then alarm bells should be ringing. What this guy does is make money by convincing naive people to buy his products. The other guy in the video is probably fully in on the con. Think about it - you could go and make a vid like this now with your friends, sell it to people, then someone else would say 'open yourmind' - and you'd KNOW it was a con. Think about it.
@reno8810 the guy is being moved back but he his hardly resisting or standing normal, my teachers demonstrates such things and it is true, however the term "ENERGY" is a little confusing, think of force being redirected back. its not amystical or jedi like energy but rather the form teaches amognst many things how to expand each joint and direct force (jin) via the feet pressing on the ground and expanding through the joints/body (namley groin/hips/ kua)then aimed out through to point of contact
taichiheaven and martialtaichi - May I attempt to offer mediation? I've spent several hours looking at videos of various applications of internal energy manipulation. Martialtaichi, it's fair to say that if internal TCC is a real manipulation, you neither understand nor "get it". Please accept tho that it more likely that this is down to you and not a massive conspiracy spanning decades, continents and tens of thousands of individuals. Taichiheaven please leave her to her self deception. :-)
internal... external... I don't recognise the distinction - it is a very recent and nonsensical elitism. Holistic correct movement coupled with sound martial strategy - that's all any of us can achieve - I don't care for smoke and mirrors or the Emperor's New Clothes.
@martialtaichi - I'll let your own ignorant comments stand for themselves. The more you write, the more you show the world that you haven't a clue as to what Tai Chi Chuan is. Stick to teaching at the local YMCA.
I always enjoy how so many fake Tai Chi folk reveal their true colours - the state of their souls - as they dialogue with those who treat the art as it was intended - not as a form of unfounded mystical elitism, esoteria and eroticism, but as a practical combat art. All that cool, calm, accepting, relativism.... like I've said before, it is like squeezing puss from a boil.
@martialtaichi - More foolishness and trite logic from you. Keep telling us all how wonderful and effective your TCC is over Mr Philips. What kind of ignorant half-ass instructor goes on youtube and starts insulting seasoned professionals anyway? Your ego and agenda are shining bright Joanna - you should be ashamed of yourself. Go preach your bullcrap elsewhere.

I have a question, if he's not pushing but punching with force. will this work? (If, dodging out of the way isn't an option). More to that how about punches to the head area? ( this is not a sarcastic question, I am asking because I really not sure about the answer... ). Thank you in advance =)

Internal utilizes structures, forms, and relaxation. External utilizes muscles, strength, and the act of tensing your body.

You deflect, connect, borrow the energy and send it back! ;)
Nobody can "take" or "bounce off" a correct punch.
You need to get out of the way of attack first.
