i feel so sad to think what jerry and the band went through.... layne was and is my idol his voice keppt me from death and kept me stood up straight, R.I.P ill never forget meeting you man <3
it is about time someone has seen layne and the sadness of addiction turned him into ,my hat go"s out to him because he did not fade away,he just burned out!!!I think he was overlooked and alone he would sit in his seat at the local bar..I wish I could have met him,or even if I could have mended his broken wings..R.I.P you are bueatiful to me!!!!
@CBFHVP the same as me.. its like seeing your angel killed by drugs.. i wish he was back to tell all the world how bad it is and how good he is when he sing
I've give anything just to have Layne back. I know I've never met him, but through the feeling in Layne's voice, the lyrics, the atmosphere, Layne knew me better than anyone else. He lived my emotions through his voice and no other singer in the world will ever be capable of doing that. No one had what Layne had.
.. raw.. emotional..layne was an will be forever remembered as 1 of the very few that come along in life that do what they do to a level which nobody else can duplicate.. 100% legend!!! i put him up there with the best!! will never be another singer that pours out more real heart an tragedy in his music.. may he rest in peace.
fuckin shame that when he died mtv ran a small banner at the bottom of the screen.....a week later lisa left eye lopez dies and mtv runs specials, and calls it a tragic loss to music!?why cause Layne was on heroin?my dad died from heroin overdose on feb 15.2010 r.i p dad

I painted my leather jacket with his face on it and wear it proudly, I will always continue to listen to AIC because they mean so much to me. I love AIC.
Honestly Layne, even though he's gone...he saved me from myself. your death brings pain to us all, but your forever an inspiration and a hero to people such as myself R.I.P
@afullingim its is mad season, im guessing someone just wanted to pay tribute to layne with this song......assuming we all know layne was the singer for mad season
makes me feel like we all lost a brother.. someone who i could listen to and enjoy.. almost makes ua wanna cry bc I come to the realization there will never be another Layne Staley, RIP
Layne we all miss you man.....I look forward to the chance of a duo with you on the other side...we were the same age and same influences and damn did you move me. Layne will never be gone. He lives on in the music. He lives inside each and every one of us that enjoy that music, and he will forever be known as THE voice of Alice In Chains. I Fucking miss you Layne, but I will never forget you.
I remember reading about Laynes death in Kerrang, it ment nothing to me because i had no idea who AIC were and more importantly i never heard the mans voice.
Things are very different now, i actully have tears in my eyes, i only wish i knew enough back then to totally understand the event. R.I.P Layne
@GraffitiRockstar i dont, he was only a voaclist and didnt even write most of the songs.... cantrell did actually and he played guitar to. Layne is an all time great voaclist though
Here we go with the kurt/Layne debate. Ok, ..this is a tribute to LAYNE, NOT Kurt! Kurt was ok but so f**ked up in the head (I blame that thing he was married to for that) kurt and Layne were both awesome ok? Just something about Layne made me WANT to hear him sing to me. I bought AIC as soon as I heard "man in the box" it took me 3 months to buy Nirvanas "teen spirit". Yeah they were both before their time and taken too soon as well, but to me Layne felt the music. RIP Layne ILY!
i wonder what the rest of the band feel when they watch a clip like this.."IF" they ever fuckin do....either way..they probably dont feel what a lot of fans feel...like me.....Rest in peace my good brother* hope to see ya on the other side..i pray i do :, l
I know what you mean how everyone pretends to love Nirvana when they know like smells like teen spirit and whatever songs were on guitar hero. But if you think about it, Jerry Cantrell basically just uses power chords. Musician and skill wise, I think AIC is more talented, but Kurt Cobain played from his feeling and didn't care about fame.
@xXxGODSMACKxXx Neither layne or kurt cared about fame!!!!! In the end life payed its price:( RIP Layne and Kurt!!!! We will never see such talent again:(
this song takes me to a whole different place. its like a peacefull realm of AIC. jsut lie down, close ur eyes and lsiten to this song. not too loudly but. youll start imagening what i am right now
you hear that music and you feel a weight in your heart, a kind of stomachacke.. then you hear layne and the riff of 1.45 and your feelings are changing so much that....cant explain..
Layne is a god among music he is favorited by all of us who continue to listen and blast A.I.C until this day. He might not be on earth but he is with the band in spirit and for one believe he has even lent Duvall some of his vocals from beyond the grave.
I agree wit gfarmer, Layne's voice was so unique and beautiful and he is my favorite Artist still even though he is gone, but he is in a better place. When u are suffering an addiction it is so easy to get clean, but hard so hard to stay clean....I love you Layne R.I.P. We shall never forget you and the beautiful person u were.....:(
I remember seeing them in 1991 on the Clash of the Titans tour, nobody knew who they were so thecrowd was booing them and screaming SLAYER,SLAYER over and over until Man in the Box started and everybody shut up for just a second and started jamming,it was cool.I saw A.I.C. every chance I got after that and I am proud to say I have seen them 5 times,I saw him the time he broke his leg and sung in a wheelchair...lol
I hate how every preacher and god damn religious person thinks it was his choice and deserved it.... Well he had no choice. He couldn't control his path anymore than we can (in this govrnment, not very much). He must have had depression or something that made him start so he could escape. I'm close to starting if things continue to screw me over. He just wanted to have friends and to have people remember him after he left like so many of us strive to. RIP.
Why, Why all the greats things had to end up like taht, how can you listen to this beautyfull melodies, and think ... My god the man who wrote this pieces of art, its gonne,AIC its my favorite band of all times , and cant stop thinking that the man who make me feel all kind of thing trough hes words, is no longer physically between us, cause hes inside our hearts . we miss you Layne (R.I.P)
Why do all of the most talented people seem to die, i mean come on Layne, Cobain, hendrix, Dimebag, Dave Williams, Jackson, and now "the rev" Jimmy...RIP every one of you, you're all missed. the brought music to a whole new level than what its becoming today.
this song is a Layne Masterpiece.. tho oyher members of Mad Season are so lucky (minus Saunders, ripped), to share Layne's wisdom during that 'Above' period.. i think McCready gain so much experience in the matter of fact jammin with Layne
@paulbongiorno To us younger people who have never had the opportunity to hear layne's wonderful music I think it is a blessing not a pain. You have to see the other side of things.. They have always been my favorite band and that will never change. Layne is with everyone that listens to his music
This song and video damn near makes me cry. Layne will never be forgotten and will remain in hearts for terms to come. Amazing human being. Everytime I see these videos and the videos of his death being announced on tv everything hits so hard.
Layne was special. His music was special. R.I.P. Layne Staley.
Alice in Chains were him and Layne, you can't keep the same name without a piece that was the inner breath and heart of the band. Changing the name would have been the best way to tribute and cry Layne's absence and missing. It's the same about Queen.
This song gives me goosebumps...It seems that in this one Layne was getting free from all the sadness and pain as the last sufferent breath. Though you can trace some hope in his voice.
I am not disappointed with the fact that cantrell is still doing music with other members of past alice in chains band. But I hate the fact that they kept the name of the band for commercial purposes.
i love seeing so many like me who are still haunted by laynes passing....he spoke of a side of life so many ppl wish to ignore exists..it may sound f***ed up but when im down i come to see him and hear him and i cry...he still is my place of refuge and a place i come to centre my soul...i love you layne and miss you...i hope there is life after this one just cos of the likes of you
@Satanstool85 Layne was the greatest! Nothing wrong with Jerry makin music with other folks. The album is very good. Jerry produced and wrote most of AIC's material. They are both legends, and you're disrespecting one of them, and that's gay.
Layne was gone way too soon, as a person having severe pain and on morphine, I can relate to his hell, he sang about it so many times, yet, he couldn't help himself...sniff...he's missed like Andy Wood is. Such a loss.
Haunting, melodic, beautiful and it reminds me of why I love this guys voice and music so much. Grunge is what rock needed, I never understood why Cobain wanted to distance himself from the Seattle scene so much. I would loved to have heard Layne and Cobain sing together.
I remember when Man in the Box was first released. His voice was amazing and AIC became my favorite band instantly. That era in music was awesome. You had AIC, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and alot more I am forgetting. When you compare that music to the crap we have now, it's depressing.
True for me as well. Grunge was the last breath true rock gave. Now it's all gone and Layne was a rock & roll god. One of last dignified and true worthy of having the name rock stars.
Yes. That was the time in which music and instruments were just a path to express personal and unique feelings of some guys. They were a shout of cmplaining, crying, saying precise things, expressing fun, isolation or fear about ssomething. They had to do music to feel alive and feel happy.
Now a lot of people tries to make album for fame, or game, of money. They really love music but doesn't have any urgency to do that, maybe.
Layne's not gone,he's here until some of us still remind and miss him.I miss him for me entire life cuz'he was my brother and inspiration whitout end.I love you man
Layne was the best. He was so diverse in his ways in music, is presence on stage, and his beautiful art. He accomplished so much and was taken away too soon. At least he finally has peace.
I started listening to all the bands you listed when I was like 13 and now I'm 26. All of the bands you mentioned came from a great time in music. The 90's were explosive for these bands and Layne is sorely missed.........believe it. AIC was my second favorite band. I started with the Cars.
i feel so sad to think what jerry and the band went through.... layne was and is my idol his voice keppt me from death and kept me stood up straight, R.I.P ill never forget meeting you man <3

JeremysGarden 2 years ago 2
This song gives me goosebumps...It seems that in this one Layne was getting free from all the sadness and pain as the last sufferent breath. Though you can trace some hope in his voice.
I am not disappointed with the fact that cantrell is still doing music with other members of past alice in chains band. But I hate the fact that they kept the name of the band for commercial purposes.

Jerrys a fuckin chump,,AiC died with Layne..to go on singing his song with some new fag is just disrespectful... Layne was AiC....RIP Layne
Satanstool85 2 years ago

When you compare that music to the crap we have now, it's depressing.
grfarmer 2 years ago 36
True for me as well. Grunge was the last breath true rock gave. Now it's all gone and Layne was a rock & roll god. One of last dignified and true worthy of having the name rock stars.

spudsucker 2 years ago 2

I started listening to all the bands you listed when I was like 13 and now I'm 26. All of the bands you mentioned came from a great time in music. The 90's were explosive for these bands and Layne is sorely missed.........believe it. AIC was my second favorite band. I started with the Cars.
