It depends how far back you go. Most people would consider Microsoft's charging of OEMs for computers sold solely with Linux releases (which would otherwise would be free) as being anti-competitive. You say you can customize windows 7 right down to the sounds? It's the master of customization huh? Ha! 1. Not even close compared to Linux customization, ya just can't be retarded if ya wanna properly use Linux; and 2. Just yesterday I had issues customizing my windows 7 sounds. First, it as it always has since 95, only works with WAV sounds, and second, it apparently won't play anything over a certain length, not sure what that length is, a minute or something.
Because you totally can't customize everything down to the sounds in windows 7. Oh, this was vista. Yeah... But really though, 7 is awesome. Born of Osiris plays when I get an alert and I get Boom by Excision when I log in. Not the whole song of course.

The thing about Linux is it can be as user friendly or not as you want it to be, like you can get drilled in the ass by a Gentoo install or you can try Ubuntu (which is what Mint is based off of) which is definitely easier to use than Windows or even Mac. I've been using linux for years and I still think that shit's hard.
The best OS I have encountered by far is XP. Linux is fun to play with as is Mac. They just made XP too good and not even the newer Vista comes close to it. Also, I doubt 7 will be as good.

Vista was closed down too much for people to handle, the so called flaws as undeadelite says should be called DRM. That is the reason not everything worked on Vista... and this still is the case with Windows 7. The new iPad has some great websites about their DRM too, just search for them via the Free Software Foundation on Google (that runs on Linux servers too). Open minds use open source, forget Windows...

That is not entirely correct. Mac IS Unix. Linux is merely Unix-Like. Both GNU/Linux and Mac OSX are based upon Unix (though Mac OS X received Unix certification recently). Linux does not = Unix. Mac OSX is not based on Linux. Linux is the kernel most often used with the GNU OS (though GNU has its own kernel, called Hurd). Mac OSX uses an entirely different kernel.

@abhinabab XP was not a bad system either. Very user-friendly. I have it as a theme on my Linux, it is nice ;)
Besides, inside open source community usually people allso reffere to "freedom of choice". Which means, "use what is best for you", not "allways use Linux".
I bet a lot of people are not upgrading, because they're perfectly happy with XP, and that will p** Microsoft off for another ten years ;)
But really, people do not care, they only wants what works...

Vista was awful when I first got it on the new computer for my office, but by the time 7 had come along most of the fixes for Vista had caught it up pretty well.
I've never worked on Linux.

Well, personally, all I've ever used since I was in elementary school is windows and the occasional mac. I like windows and tolerate it's problems, and because of that I find no reason to switch, especially since I like playing games on my computer

@DarthFennec I took a class and the teacher had us look at linux (trying not to go into details because it would go on forever) but the only time I enjoyed using Linux is when i used Linux Mint and made tweaks which I like how you can customize it the way you want and how it is open source but Mac OS X works better

The thing about Linux is it can be as user friendly or not as you want it to be, like you can get drilled in the ass by a Gentoo install or you can try Ubuntu (which is what Mint is based off of) which is definitely easier to use than Windows or even Mac. The thing I find is that almost every Linux hater is that way because they tried an advanced or guru distribution, and obviously fail. I've been using linux for years and I still think that shit's hard.

The best OS I have encountered by far is XP. Linux is fun to play with as is Mac. They just made XP too good and not even the newer Vista comes close to it. Also, I doubt 7 will be as good.

Maybe the Windows company actually takes time to try not to make crap. Linux is great for nothing. It runs most programs okay but not to the standards of the Windows operating systems. The competition of who is the "best computer" is in Mac and Linux but as i see Windows is just for maybe hard work that what i see. If you use a Mac i know that in the internet is very difficult to find programs that you want because everything got it on Windows and that why you can get a lot of virus if you not prepared...Kinda is the same thing computers made it for do the same but if you want a real Computer the thing is with Mac and Linux...

Vista was closed down too much for people to handle, the so called flaws as undeadelite says should be called DRM. That is the reason not everything worked on Vista... and this still is the case with Windows 7. The new iPad has some great websites about their DRM too, just search for them via the Free Software Foundation on Google (that runs on Linux servers too). Open minds use open source, forget Windows...

Actually Xerox designed the first graphic operating system, but at a board meeting they blew it off saying that the mouse was stupid and it would never catch on, so they sold it to apple.
Microsoft started working for apple when they effectively stole the code from apple and made it into windows. soooo neither really designed it first.

You're not as bad as windows, but not as good as linux) Linux is open source, which means that for someone with programming experience, instead of waiting for M$ to come out with a security patch or a bugfix, you can do it yourself, which gives linux a greater potential for security development. Also, linux makes it easier to develop for stuff, because it's open source. I use fedora 12.

windows xp was such a good os, but they took 6 or 7 years to develop vista because they wanted to revolutionize the market, in a negative way - and they DID! Vista was not only garbage - it was sht! Even Bill Gates said that MS had invested billions of dollars to develop the garbage - windows 7 is actually Vista Service pack 3 like @wewantutopia said... and although windows 7 is great - its not as great as windows xp. Amen!

That is not entirely correct. Mac IS Unix. Linux is merely Unix-Like. Both GNU/Linux and Mac OSX are based upon Unix (though Mac OS X received Unix certification recently). Linux does not = Unix. Mac OSX is not based on Linux. Linux is the kernel most often used with the GNU OS (though GNU has its own kernel, called Hurd). Mac OSX uses an entirely different kernel.

@KissMeImPunk Actually, that's not true. Linux is based off of Unix and same with Mac. Windows is actually based off of itself. It has nothing to do with Linux or Unix. If you use a Mac, you're pretty much using a Linux or Unix system. But if you use Windows, that's something completely different.

Since the information about Windows being based off of it's own thing and not Linux hasn't changed at all in the past, it is most likely an undisputed fact. Now Mac on the other hand is based off of UNIX and Linux is also based off of UNIX.

@ToningFrancesco Most operating systems today including Macs are based on a Unix system. Even Linux is based on Unix. The only operating system that isn't based on Unix is Windows. Windows used to be based on MS-DOS, but now it's based on Windows NT.

@idontknowwhatnicktou Yeah well, for your information, Windows Server 2008 still has the highest market share. At over 68%, most large business corporations still prefer Windows. Why? Because Windows is much easier to set up and is more user-friendly. Plus, corporations don't have to invest the time getting Linux to work and be compatible with all their programs. There's absolutely no benefit in switching from Windows Server 2008 to Linux or any other Unix-Like systems.

Google gave an eweek article dated 2007 in 1st link, and wiki in second, and data in wiki differs from yours. You may also browse netcraft site and see their data on subject (in short, it says that Windows and Linux have about equal market share 40%-40%).
Anyway, I still think, that using windows on servers, especially on web servers, is stupid, but it's not a topic to discuss on youtube.

@jehargro I do love linux, but I really like to game, so untill Valve release Steam for Linux (soon I hope) and Blizzard supports linux (they are considering it) Im stuck with Windows XP, I dont mind it that much either.
But yea... the Mac OS is A Unix Kernal (almost identical to the Linux Kernal) with a fancy GUI and a Dock. And it is almost closed platform. Writing programs for Apple products is a biatch...

@supergenius1994 for the same reason Windows isn't as "Secure" as a Mac OS, no one writes viruses for it. About 95% of all computers, are Windows based, be it servers, or home computers or Gaming rigs. So if you were going to write a virus, why only target 1-5 percent of the computer population?
