heading to vail next week for the first time, so pumped watching your vids. the snow isnt going to be like this though. where are the best spots to hit stuff like this right now at vail? blue sky basin isnt open
@brettt401 it's your lucky day! Blue Sky is opening... today! It's been dumping in Vail. For the best Vail Snow forecast check out this site: snowforecast . com/Vail it's the best. Have fun, I'll be out there the last weekend in January and I'll be shooting my first videos of the year. FINALLY SNOW!
@unoseabug Try and ski Vail during the week. Weekends can be super crowded. Hit Chair 5 early in the morning before the lift maze gets full. Then definitely check out Blue Sky Basin if you have never skied it before.
@SKIFREESTYLEFREAK I've skied in Oregon and Washington and while the terrain is decent the snow is much wetter and heavier. Colorado definitely has some of the best, driest, champaign powder in North America. And Vail's terrain is sick!
Ha! Yeah his name is Kris Ferreri. But I always call him Ferrari. He actually owns a Pizza and Wings joint in Denver. He is at the top of the cliff on the right but he didn't take my same line ;)
@dantemonteverde Hey I was just watching some of your other videos on youtube and noticed some of them were just uploaded. Were they taken recently? Looked like tons of powder
Thx for checking out my vids. Yeah the last two vids were from last Saturday, March 6th. They had gotten like 4 inches of fresh but East Vail and Mushroom bowl don't get as much sun exposure (north facing) and tons of wind loaded snow. However that wind loaded snow is what makes it really dangerous and avalanche prone. Never go there by yourself and always wear a beacon. People die their every year and some lines have mandatory 40 foot + cliffs. But as you can see the powder is excellent!
@skier4life28 Yeah those last 5 video's were taken in the last 2-3 weeks. Colorado was hurting all winter but finally got some snow the last few weeks. All those video's are in the backcountry though so I had to hike to get the fresh untracked powder.
you are all just looking at the rocks which are infact around 10-12 feet, but notice about 3 feet of snow above the rocks, not only that the cliff is angled upward so when he goes off with that speed he probably gets another 3 or 4 feet hiegher than the top of the cliff so now we are at around 18 feet in the air, plus he absolutely flies way past the base of the rocks a good 10 or 15 feet below them this is like 28-33 feet
Hey thanks for backing a brother up! That cliff might not look that big on film but it's a TON of air and it's a blind takeoff.
Check out my YouTube channel for a sweet double cliff jump I took recently out of bounds in Vail. It's not as much air as this cliff but way more sketchy and technical. And I almost landed in a tree.
@dantemonteverde, no problem nothing drives me crazier when you hit something super technical and get zero credit becuase the people that saw it only look at the rock you jump off of, minus #1 how much higher it looks when your on top #2 how tough it is to spot a landing on a blind takeoff #3 the fact that a cliff is almost always gonna be 3 feet higher because of snow on top and no matter how small you go, your always gonna land 4 or 5 feet below the rocks
@twintipper123 you're right it's more like 15 ft. But b/c you want to take it with speed you are getting well over 20-30 feet of air. I only wish I would have stuck it in this video. Also this Cliff band is OB at Vail, so not many know of it or launch it. Great powder skiing above and below it too!
30+ feet? LOL, No seriously that was well over 25 feet with the amount of distance up and out. If you ever see that cliff up close and in person you would know it's big!
