  • it looks like a demon boss from a game dying after carving out its heart :O

  • feta händer han har ;) watch?v=aTTwAUMbgKQ

  • i tried it once, but i wasnt successful

perhaps it was because the battery had run out of charge or the wool was somehow wet

  • If you wrap a sausage in steel wool and burn it like this, would it get cooked or at least warmed up?

  • Comment removed

  • i did this in my science class, and are the odors harmful in any way to your nose, or eyes?

  • @Anonymous1276 Definitely harmful to inhale and can damage your sinuses, and can cause some eye irritation. It is not juts some regular wool, such as that used in socks or that can be used in sewing, but it's a treated industrial wool. Normally supposed to be used for hard scrubbing and such, when it melts it releases all of these chemicals as smoke. I'd keep my face away from it if I were you.

  • Oh my gawd! I actually just put a cicada in the steel wool and lit it, the damn thing screamed so loud like a thousand jet engines or a bunch of girls at a Hannah Montana concert. I need to go to the ear doctor now!

  • boooooooooooooooommmm ??

    no , boooooooooooooooommmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ll@ the description

  • Tip: If you pull the steel wool apart, and spread it, you can start a fire more easily. It's just a little tip I have picked up :3

  • You can use any type of battery just as long as both + - contacts touch the wool at the same time.

  • @biteofdog can you use a 1.5 volt battery and get a wire to make the - touch the wool?

And can you do it with 120 volts?

  • You should totally use one my piece of music. Primarily because I'm not an arse that will yell at you for doing so.

  • Yay! Circus music! =]

  • brotip: for best results use magnets

  • @lolxuan you have my thumbs up.

  • Look i just need a light really bad...I am too lazy to buy a lighter

  • What's the background music? Sounds like a Cossack march.

  • I bet Bear Grylls didn't think of this....

  • @NiaJustNia Nah He'd rather drink his own piss.

  • Whats the science behind this?

  • @megaedwin47 the charge of the battery conducts with the steel making a charge that generates enough heat to ignite the steel wool

  • McGyver style. Love the music.

  • Dose the battery get hot

  • I feel like Im in Germany after that song

  • NICE MAN

  • tom tom tom tom

  • @leadpill13 what happens if you put a cicada in the steel wool and light it?

  • "This can be very useful while camping"

Yeah or you can just buy a lighter or some matches, lol.

  • can it be used multiple times?

  • Good video but this song is painful.

  • It's not fire its just. Sparks retard

  • i only put those 2 items in the same drawer side by side to each other

its like a furnace inside the steel wool

  • i only put those 2 items in the same drawer side by side to each other

  • lol So why shouldn't we put Cicadas in the steel wool when we light it up with the battery?

  • it will work with 6v lantern battery, or 3 of them...

  • can it burn a metalic sheep??

  • i just realized that at home, which is 100 miles away from where i am right now, there is a shit load of steel wool and a shit load of batteries on my desk.

  • @gsp2241 Well then you're fucked...

  • why no cicada? same effect as a leaf?

  • ofcourse, if you put a cicada in it, it will turn into like a bar-b-que... It is kinda smells good. LOL

  • How many fire starts does one steel wool equal?

  • what if u put just a little fire starter liquid on it and try it

  • Comment removed

  • @AgentCROCODILE What is this compound with Potassium, Chlorine, and Oxygen atoms in it called?

  • Comment removed

  • I put a cicada in mine and it exploded and burnt me so bad!........ -_-

  • Is the battery still usable after?

  • Taylor gang or stick your dick in that thing!

  • thanks to this i will Ace my class =D thanks lots honey bunches of oats

  • here it is in English Budd, everyone knows that trick but i must say who in their freaken mind would carry around steel wool, well except Murdock in the a team, the one in the 80's.

  • jeder weiß, dass Trick aber ich muss sagen, die in ihrer Freaken Verstand ist, würde rund Stahlwolle zu tragen, gut, außer Murdock in der ein Team, das in den 80er Jahren.

  • My question: is the steel wool "used up" after doing this once, or can you strike it again and again to continue to make fire? You can see by the end of the video that it is blackened... noob question, I know

  • OMG WUTS THE NAME OF THIS SONG D:

it must be in my ipod

  • i've tried this four times and gave up, should I not be using steel wool that has soap on it like brillo?

  • beast music!!

  • any battery will work (other than button cells) but 9 volts are the easiest to use

  • easy way to start a fire if you are stranded

  • Does the battery have to be full? It would make sense because it needs the acid inside to produce a current, making a super hot heat. But if you use an empty battery, will it still create sparks?

  • @khaos4ng31 it does spark, I used one I found, got sparks but no fire.

  • @nappyfro97 YEH LOL! I realized I could just light it on the oven lol

  • The only reason I want to know how to do this is because I cant light my joint because my lighter broke lol

  • from 0:40 to 0:49 it seems like its breathing or "smoking" hahaha (even the stick of the leaf makes up for the cigar)

  • epic music

  • Why do you specifically mention cicadas?

  • WTF is this music????

  • lol looks like ww3 bombing

  • i put a cicadia in there!!!! haha lol i was funny!!!

  • yea any battery work except for button celss

  • Can you Use a SOS soap pad That is aLso steel woool ?

  • Curses!

  • i think this song works well w/ this, makes it quite epic

  • if you're bored don't try to start a fuking fire

  • Not the most practical thing. I mean, what wins, a pack of water prof matches and a lighter in a plastic zip bag, or a battery and 6 pieces of steel wool for 6 different fires. Looks cool though.

  • @ArtypNk It works pretty well in a pinch. Ideally you want to heat it up just enough for it to make sparks when you blow on it.

  • @baronofcheese I know it works, I'm just saying it's not that practical to carry it around in a backpack. Also, I just thought, how would it looked like if you replace the 9V with a car battery...

  • @ArtypNk In fact with a car battery handy you may not even need the steel wool.

  • nice luks like a cigarrette filter on steriodes

  • epic

  • Is the steel wool reusable, or is just a one time gig?

  • wait... cicadas?????

  • "dont put any cicadas in there please"

  • where do u get steel wool

  • @vietkid977 Hardware stores, wal-mart, etc. It's usually used to clean grills or to polish things (depending on how fine or coarse the wool is).

  • THAT IS NOT EVANESCENCE!

  • @chelseazxq Yeah, are you complaining lol?

  • @leadpill13 This suits it MUCH better.

  • just went and tried this it worked but it was a bit windy so didnt stay lit for long :(

  • will watter put it out

  • 0:37 It lives!

  • you can hold it both at the same time just roll a small piece of the wool in two ends and put one end to the positive and the other to the negative.

  • that looked sooo cool

  • Hmm,,, Why does this work? What does the battery do to the steel wool?

  • Plain steel wool with no soap can be found with painting supplies near the fine sandpaper. Sometimes furniture finishers use it for a final rubdown instead of ultra fine sandpaper.

  • lol "dont put any cicadas in there"

  • @lespaul110 what is a cicadas ?

  • @InHisShadow111 a cicada is an annoying-ass insect like a cricket

  • youtube plays this song way way to much it to popular

  • Fucking gay song you faggot.

  • The music is unnecessary.

  • What is the voltage on the battery? And does it need to be a two prong type for it to work?

  • @lkevins1

A 9Volt is just easiest but if you wanted to you could do the same thing with a AA and a paper clip.

  • Do not dip your hand in gasoline and then hold the steel wool while doing this trick.

  • "do not hold the steel wool and and the battery in the same hand" well your a fucking rocket scientist, next time i need somone to tell me how NOT to burn myself, ill ask you.

  • cicadas?

    thanks!

  • ne you have used glasswool

  • Do not use SOS or other soap loaded steel wool. Rather, ho to a hardware store in the paint department and ask for extra-fine (00 or 000) raw steel wool.

  • Maybe a thermocouple electric generator on burning steel wool could stretch the capacity of a 9volt!

  • I gonna char me some cicadas with this, THANKS!

  • fuck thats stupid i learned to do that like 1 year ago and i doesn't take a genius to figure it out

  • thats pretty cool, i just wished you hadnt forced me to listen to the stereotypical goth music

  • If you use some till the detergent is gone, then let them dry out, then you have some with no detergent on them

  • Would AA batteries or AAA batteries work? Just out of curiosity.

  • what does it smell like?

  • dude, the wool has to be frayed, as in you need to loosen it and make it more like a soft puffed material than the thin wires that it is, then you lget FIRE on the wool rather than just sparks

  • imma try to put a bug in it, umm does it matter what type of battery I get?

  • A bug? As in a insect LOL? Check the description =/

  • spray some WD40 on the steel wool, it will burn really welll, and you got yourself a knife cleaning kit.

  • Don't put any cicadas in it? Are you using reverse psychology?

    I like it. :)

  • it works better if you fluff and fray the steel wool

  • Comment removed

  • @bsheller ure right...fuckin lame song

  • @bsheller Then don't watch it because your comments are even shittier.

  • @bsheller so you dont like oktoberfest.. you suck.

  • @snakeob

It was a shitty Evanescence song.

    I much prefer the update.

  • whats the song

  • @eggking23

Evanessance - Bring me to life

  • numb by evanescence

  • it moves ^^

  • that was cool but why the song

  • WHY CAN'T YOU PUT CICADAS IN IT?

  • for all thoughs techno hunter gatherers out there

  • ... cicadas? lol!

  • i think a 9v battery works the best because with a 1.5v battery, the terminals are spread apart and harder to touch to the wool, maybe a 6v battery, but that would by MY minimum

  • thats awesome!! i dont know how you can do that but thats AWESOME!!! thanks for the upload!

  • i think it burns because the current running threw each peice of wiring is to strong so it burns the wire. kinda the same way a fuse works

  • actually the DIY video says that touching the bettery to steel wool shorts the battery and causing it to burst into flames.

  • thats exactly what i said, you just put it in different words, the wool isn't stong enough to hold that amount of current causing it to burst into flames, you cant short a battery, thats why they tell you to always use the proper guage wire when working with currents because you can start fires like that one

  • why cant i put a cicada in there? not that i would, but why?

  • @Ilovevulpix17 lets just say crack snapple pop

  • @Ilovevulpix17 death sentence of cicada, dun hurt nature lol

  • @Ilovevulpix17

If you put a cicada in there, the wool+battery combination would only magnify its sound by 9000 times the normal noise, causing a mass disruption in telecommunications, possibly tearing a hole in the fabric of time, allowing future cicadas to come back from the future and take vengeance for their fellow past cicada on you.

  • @khaos4ng31 that is SO full of win, but still, it's not over 9000!!!!!!!!

  • @khaos4ng31 you know whats the magnified sound is? OVER 9000!!!!!!

  • in going to do this for my project easy A+

  • I feel bad for the leaf. I heard of this before, but I wanted to make sure it was true I could make a fire with steel wool. Nice video!

  • lol cicadas. can we put grasshoppers in there and have a grasshopper roast?

lol. haha jk. thanks. didn't know what battery to use.

  • i tried that but it diddnt work. does it need a special steel wool?

  • Try soaking it in gasoline and lighting it with a match.

  • thanks

  • next time try to shake it fast its verry nice..alot of sparckler ;P

  • @leadpill13 I approve.

  • @leadpill13 lol

  • @randomvidsinc123 it needs finer steel wool.. I saw it in another vid

  • @randomvidsinc123 You may also need a finer kind of steel wool! If the wool is too rough, the fire and the sparks won't ignite properly.

  • @randomvidsinc123 make sure its steel and fine

  • @randomvidsinc123 Late reply I know, but yes some steal wool does not work. Look for ultra fine steal wool.

  • where do u get the steel wool?

  • Home depot... menards.. walgreens, walmart.

  • r they the ones with detergent on them like "Brillo" or "SOS"? cause i couldn't find any without detergent on them

  • No idea, worth a try though.

  • you were looking in the cleaning department, you want to look in a home depot

  • should be able to get non detergent steel wool at any good motoring/motorcycle store as it is used as wadding in mufflers :))

  • @poqbum752 Actually if u hold the brillo or SOS pad under some running water it becomes steel wool

  • @ecck2 saved my life not really but started a fire when we frogot our lighter and matches we were in colorado which = need of fire thanx i remebered this im like steel wool we take out our tin pot kit and in it is the sos pad and detergent grahhhhh but you said wash it out and i was like yes thx

  • @poqbum752 SOS will work

  • @poqbum752 this kind of steel wool can be found at a hardware store

  • lookslike a camera man is in thre

  • duracell FTW !!

    xP

  • put some cotton or dry goods on the wool

  • Nice song.

    What song is it?

  • Bring Me to Life - Evanescence

  • wtf is a cicada????

  • i think its some kind of cricket like bug

  • where do u find steel wool

  • it's those dish scrubber things that's steel wool , and if i am wrong please correct me

  • I think you are kinda right, I think steal wool is softer than that other wool used for dishes... but im not sure.

  • yeah you are exactly right although there are different grades of steal wool
