I hate to be a spoil-sport. I want to go back to the Moon as much as anyone, but what are we going to do with our garbage? Niel Armstrong's urine bags are still on the Moon. It's very convienent to burn our trash from the ISS in the atmosphere. We've already wrecked the planet, let's wreck the Moon, too. Long term missions equal long term waste. Galilleo was persecuted for discovering the Moon was not perfect, but maybe it was perfect, until the 1960's. We should explore the Moon, not trash it.
so its like this, the first 6 manned missions were like sex without a condom and now were going back to get a vaginal swab to see if were going to get clap if we keep inserting a man. Sounds like a lot of German soldiers and fighter pilots work for NASA. oh i almost forgot sluts. i know the good folks at NASA are going to give me some shit about my comment but hey you guys set me up, i just knocked over the pins.
rare resources and $, NASA is working for future of private investors. That is their goal set up by US government, open space by providing reliable technology for private investment.
No offense to all the space enthusiasts, but shouldn't we create a peaceful world before we venture out to other planets. I don't know why any other civilizations would want to meet us when they see all the horrible things we do to our own kind. Colonizing space...
Interesting and informative video. Good job! I'm very happy that we are taking Lunar Studies to a new level with the LRO. I believe the moon's surface contains secrets of the longterm history of the local astrophysical environment. e.g. Evidence of periodic fluxes of meteors and comets that erodes away on earth should be preserved in the lunar surface...

Did anyone see the discovery channel special on the crystal skulls and the theory of a civilization on the moon that was destroyed by asteroides? If so, do you think that's why NASA wants to go back there to try and find the leftovers of the civilization?

IN other words ... we need to kill more time before we admit we never landed a man on the moon ..... just keep sending robots looking for "landing sites" .... what a joke!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why do you say that they didn't land a man on the moon. Is it because on the video shown the flag winds. You know moon also has atmosphere, like the earth
This is a wonderful step in the ultimate quest of furthering our knowledge of the solar system. I was a young child when Neil Armstrong first set foot upon the moon 40 years ago. I eagerly anticipate the launch of the Ares launch vehicles and the landing of the Altair lunar lander. As a nation we should be proud of our return to the moon and the oppurtunity for further space exploration and eventual colonization. The Apollo program gave us the foundation

What do these fools think they are going to find on the moon that is so vital? More money down the tube as children that have never grown up chase their childhood fantasies; space cadets!
come on why havent they mapped the moon already , we have satilite pics of the phenox on mars!? speaking about mars, if someone does find life on mars , nasa should hang its head in shame, after all the stuff they sent there and they dont send the right experiments, if life is there it should be all over the place, god what are they doingt with all that cash!?
life on mars isn't popping around , if it's there its very well hidden.
the reason we didn't already mapped the moon , was 1)money 2) other priorities after the sixties ( see shuttle , space station , voyager , the other plantets , mars specialy..it's a lot of stuff 3)shuttle recovery after incident , 4) well.. it's now that we have the tech. to do it well.
it's a shame youre instruction is so low.what are youre parents doing with all the money ?
What is ment by the moon is the natural next step in our exploration of our own universe, have we not already landed on and explored the moon? Was that not 30 or so years ago, i don't want to be a downer but why havn't we been back to the moon earlier than this.
They mean that a base on the moon is a stepping stone to a Mars mission.
We did go back 7 times, but after that there really wasn't much reason to go, the political will and funding wasn't there and Nasa had other projects (shuttle ISS etc). Landing on the moon was fantastically expensive, I think I read it cost $1million for every minute we were there.
The Trieste made it to the bottom of the Mariana trench in 1960, we haven't been back there either. :)

NASA faked the moon landings. Here's a link to some of the evidence.

WHAT - go back to the Moon?... We have never even landed on the Moon it was staged (FAKE).
It's a shame that NASA isen't getting the right funds that they need for us to land on the Moon.

isnt it weird that they went up to the moon way back in the day but now they dont have the information to send manned people up there anymore...?
omgnuub 2 years ago
You're not really paying attention, sir.
sgabriel 2 years ago
they do have it , the problem is we want to send back people in saffer ways.. and in saffer places.
in the sixties , we send men to the moon , but with enourmes risks , and defenetly not to stay there.
this is a complettly new challenge.
we plan on finding places in wich we can live , and build . safely..

4:25 so there a high resolution video of the moon
joshua2545 2 years ago
LRO will blow those images (4:25) away, up to 1 meter resolution (3.3 feet).
Also, LRO will return global data, such as day-night temperature maps, a global geodetic grid, high resolution color imaging and the moon's UV albedo.

How does this mission differ from Clementine and Lunar Prospector?
How much more mapping do we really need?
Let's just do it!
I'll go! Getting a bit old now, but I'm fit, technical, have some flight time.
Pick me, pick me!
