Its not that big of a deal 120 Ibs! You can also get adjustable camber, and other suspension parts that would help balence out the 120 pounds difference if you want! You dont even have to though, like if you had springs/struts! 120 Ibs. is not enough to make your front top heavy!! Its not a big deal!

@240sxguy3, you do not want to do an RB20 swap, or any RB swap for that matter. That engine is a straight six, and that will destroy your weight distribution (I am assuming that you are talking about the S13.) It will make it much too heavy in the front; this was a problem that the GT-R suffered from. I'm just saying.

Might as well do the swap if it's on it's last legs anyway. I'm just guessing it would probably cost just as much to re-build but if it just needs a few tweeks, again, it all comes down to how much you want to pour into it. If you're gonna bother to re-build it, you might as well do it right.
Bummer. Make sure you spend the extra money and make sure it has a metal head gasket. The 5-speed would be ideal. If money isn't a huge issue, you can do awesome things. I also have a 91 turbo and it's totally re-built with turbo upgrades. My next project on it is the interior. It's clean except for the tired leather front seats. I'm going to keep it as stock looking as possible. I'm not a big fan of fancy rims or flashy stuff. I think the Supra looks great the way it is. Have fun with it.

@240sxGuy3 i get your point. i would go with a tm too because it is cheaper. but you have to do a couple of things before you build it. 7mgte's are well knowing for blowing head gaskets quick. if you torque it down to 54lbs. it will stop blowing head gaskets. also the 7mgte is an inline 6 not a V6. ive actually looked up the highest record for the 7mgte is 700RWHP!!!

Its stock at 230hp and probobly 220rwhp! We may put the aftermarket headgasket and torque it to 85 pounds, and then we may upgrade the cams, and valves and basically a little head work!! But we wont touch the bottom end of the engine, toyota has made that very strong and it can handle 360rwhp no problem!!

@240sxGuy3 If only that were true, 90-92 Supra 7M's headgasket were still torqued to 58ft lbs. as written in the factory service manual. Its the same for the 91 Service manual and my 88 service manual. The only thing that changed on the 90-92 Supras was the crankshaft, being that it was a full counter crank. Never the less good thinking on re-torquing the head however depending on your goals my personal opinion is that you replace it anyways as preventive maintenance.
@JDMforever11 Well i wouldnt have a supra with the 7M-GTE at 500rwhp, without some aftermarket internals!! And in order to push 600 or 700, or even 500 hp on this engine you have to have a massive turbo pushin wicked boost!! Telling someone how much power an engine can hold with stock internals, is irrelivant because THERE IS NOBODY THAT HAS ANYWHERE NEAR THE POWER WE HAVE BEEN TALKING BOUT ON A 7M-GTE, RUNNING STOCK INTERNALS!! NOBODY! Cause thats alot of work if something broke in your engine!
@240sxGuy3 actually there are a lot of people running in the 400-500hp range on stock internals with this engine. The crank and rods are forged. The pistons are cast. Its all really in the tune, so long as the tune is good youre fine, but lets be honest thats with ANY engine. You dont require a massive turbo to push 500hp, you have to remember turbocharging artificially increases displacement. 60-1 turbo will have no problems making 500. Im running a 20G on mine.
@240sxGuy3 Keeping the automatic is good idea, its faster stock for stock believe it or not, and you get more consistent shifts and times. My advice is to shim the accumulators in the trans, install a big ass trans cooler, and run a good ATF. That will take a big load off the trans so long as it isnt already worn passed the point of being useful. Heat kills automatics not power. Keep the heat down and youre good.
@Cobra281s I never knew that about the auto trans, that heat kills it not power! But if your running 400-500hp, most people have some aftermarket internals, as a precaution because if something did go wrong it could mess up more than the part that broke, espessially when your boosting! There may be alot of people that do that, but compared to how many people that dont do that, and put some aftermarket internals. theres no comparasin! Maybe toy kept the headgskt at 58 but they made it moredurable
@240sxGuy3 Toyota did revise the headgasket but it was years later, the newer headgasket is a bit better than the original, but as a precaution if youre like me planning on going above 450hp id do a mhg. Ive got a spare 7M that getting rebuilt, the only reason im doing aftermarket internals is because the block i got was bare, so it was a why the hell not situation. As far as stock internals go like i said its all in the tune. You can just as easily fuck up aftermarker internals as oem.
@240sxGuy3 If youre not planning to go above the 500 mark theres no sense in doing aftermarket internals. Just do a good rebuild, if you ever get to pull apart the bottom end of one of these engines youll see why. These engines are just as stout as the fabled 1j and 2j engines, they just got a bad rep from over the years and mainly from people who didnt have a clue as to what they were doing.

But it doesnt need to be manual, this supra if you floor it, it will rev all the way to redline and then shift!! Just like you would do in a manual, if you were racing!! All we really need to do, is do an aftermarket turbo kit, and put drilled and slotted brake rotors, and high performance brake pads!!!

@240sxGuy3 I swapped a 7MGTE in my MKII Supra (a lot lighter and I prefer the looks and vintage). Anyways, I have built my 7m, and I will try to help you save money and time. Before you even think about a turbo upgrade, make sure to upgrade the exhaust to 3" and also a high flow intake. After that a boost controller, the stock CT26 will reach 14-15 PSI and still produce power, anything over 15 PSI on the CT26 your just blowing heat (less HP) and really shortening the lifespan of the turbo.
@ihateu1979 Another thing you need before your bigger turbo is bigger fuel injectors (550), fuel pump, and either a Lexus AFM or a megasquirt setup. The stock CT26 on the 7MGTE will hit fuel cut/boost cut b4 you are even able to use it to the fullest, let alone your wanting a bigger turbo. You will need to address fueling before a new turbo, or its just a waste of turbo since you will just hit fuel cut. A stock 7MGTE with a 3" exhaust, freed up intake and boost controller is 340HP at least
@ihateu1979 This is all of course assuming you have retorqued the head bolts as you have stated. I run a metal head gasket, but many have achieved almost 400 HP on the stocker provided the head is torqued to the higher specs. This is a must, don't wanna see you blow your head gasket! BTW I am from Ohio also, check my vids for my MKII 7MGTE runs, everything was stock in the runs, at stock PSI.

Well bad news is that the supra either blew the headgasket or has a bad head or something, cause my dad was driving it down the highway and the car just stopped, and we towed it to our mechanic and there was antifreeze in the spark plug area! But actually im from Northern Ky, we live 15 min. from cincinnatti! We got the supra from somewhere near clevland! We will maybe put a new engine in the supra next summer, but for now its just sitting!!
@240sxGuy3 If its just the head gasket, it would be cheaper and more reliable to change it, and put a metal headgasket on it, then it would be to buy another used engine (plus would be more labor). Also if you get another used engine, you don't know how it was treated, but if you do get a diff motor, make sure the headgasket bolts are torqued to the new specs (I would actually replace it).

@91VR4KID Yeah there is a guy in our neighborhood that has a 3000gt vr4 twin turbo, his is manual, and he wanted to race us!! So we both jumped on the highway, and we beat him! At first he pulled a little ahead because his is AWD, then once we hit bout 110, we pulled away from him! And he has 2 aftermarket turbos, and bovs, but stock piping and we still beat him!! We got it up to like 140mph on the highway lol! We will keep it, and not turn it into manual!! We want to put an new turbo kit on it!

That engine is a straight six, and that will destroy your weight distribution (I am assuming that you are talking about the S13.) It will make it much too heavy in the front; this was a problem that the GT-R suffered from. I'm just saying.

Bummer. Make sure you spend the extra money and make sure it has a metal head gasket. The 5-speed would be ideal. If money isn't a huge issue, you can do awesome things. I also have a 91 turbo and it's totally re-built with turbo upgrades. My next project on it is the interior. It's clean except for the tired leather front seats. I'm going to keep it as stock looking as possible. I'm not a big fan of fancy rims or flashy stuff. I think the Supra looks great the way it is. Have fun with it.

@240sxGuy3 i get your point. i would go with a tm too because it is cheaper. but you have to do a couple of things before you build it. 7mgte's are well knowing for blowing head gaskets quick. if you torque it down to 54lbs. it will stop blowing head gaskets. also the 7mgte is an inline 6 not a V6. ive actually looked up the highest record for the 7mgte is 700RWHP!!!

Its stock at 230hp and probobly 220rwhp! We may put the aftermarket headgasket and torque it to 85 pounds, and then we may upgrade the cams, and valves and basically a little head work!! But we wont touch the bottom end of the engine, toyota has made that very strong and it can handle 360rwhp no problem!!

@240sxGuy3 If only that were true, 90-92 Supra 7M's headgasket were still torqued to 58ft lbs. as written in the factory service manual. Its the same for the 91 Service manual and my 88 service manual. The only thing that changed on the 90-92 Supras was the crankshaft, being that it was a full counter crank. Never the less good thinking on re-torquing the head however depending on your goals my personal opinion is that you replace it anyways as preventive maintenance.

@240sxGuy3 actually there are a lot of people running in the 400-500hp range on stock internals with this engine. The crank and rods are forged. The pistons are cast. Its all really in the tune, so long as the tune is good youre fine, but lets be honest thats with ANY engine. You dont require a massive turbo to push 500hp, you have to remember turbocharging artificially increases displacement. 60-1 turbo will have no problems making 500. Im running a 20G on mine.

@240sxGuy3 Keeping the automatic is good idea, its faster stock for stock believe it or not, and you get more consistent shifts and times. My advice is to shim the accumulators in the trans, install a big ass trans cooler, and run a good ATF. That will take a big load off the trans so long as it isnt already worn passed the point of being useful. Heat kills automatics not power. Keep the heat down and youre good.

But if your running 400-500hp, most people have some aftermarket internals, as a precaution because if something did go wrong it could mess up more than the part that broke, espessially when your boosting! There may be alot of people that do that, but compared to how many people that dont do that, and put some aftermarket internals. theres no comparasin! Maybe toy kept the headgskt at 58 but they made it moredurable

@240sxGuy3 Toyota did revise the headgasket but it was years later, the newer headgasket is a bit better than the original, but as a precaution if youre like me planning on going above 450hp id do a mhg. Ive got a spare 7M that getting rebuilt, the only reason im doing aftermarket internals is because the block i got was bare, so it was a why the hell not situation. As far as stock internals go like i said its all in the tune. You can just as easily fuck up aftermarker internals as oem.

Just do a good rebuild, if you ever get to pull apart the bottom end of one of these engines youll see why. But it doesnt need to be manual, this supra if you floor it, it will rev all the way to redline and then shift!! Just like you would do in a manual, if you were racing!! @240sxGuy3 I swapped a 7MGTE in my MKII Supra (a lot lighter and I prefer the looks and vintage). Anyways, I have built my 7m, and I will try to help you save money and time. Before you even think about a turbo upgrade, make sure to upgrade the exhaust to 3" and also a high flow intake. After that a boost controller, the stock CT26 will reach 14-15 PSI and still produce power, anything over 15 PSI on the CT26 your just blowing heat (less HP) and really shortening the lifespan of the turbo.

@ihateu1979 Another thing you need before your bigger turbo is bigger fuel injectors (550), fuel pump, and either a Lexus AFM or a megasquirt setup. The stock CT26 on the 7MGTE will hit fuel cut/boost cut b4 you are even able to use it to the fullest, let alone your wanting a bigger turbo. You will need to address fueling before a new turbo, or its just a waste of turbo since you will just hit fuel cut. A stock 7MGTE with a 3" exhaust, freed up intake and boost controller is 340HP at least

I run a metal head gasket, but many have achieved almost 400 HP on the stocker provided the head is torqued to the higher specs. This is a must, don't wanna see you blow your head gasket! BTW I am from Ohio also, check my vids for my MKII 7MGTE runs, everything was stock in the runs, at stock PSI.

Well bad news is that the supra either blew the headgasket or has a bad head or something, cause my dad was driving it down the highway and the car just stopped, and we towed it to our mechanic and there was antifreeze in the spark plug area! But actually im from Northern Ky, we live 15 min. from cincinnatti! We got the supra from somewhere near clevland! We will maybe put a new engine in the supra next summer, but for now its just sitting!!

@240sxGuy3 If its just the head gasket, it would be cheaper and more reliable to change it, and put a metal headgasket on it, then it would be to buy another used engine (plus would be more labor). Also if you get another used engine, you don't know how it was treated, but if you do get a diff motor, make sure the headgasket bolts are torqued to the new specs (I would actually replace it).

clean supra. congrats. to bad its auto and doesnt have a 1jz... but it is a project, and could all be fixed. but be carefull with that turbo, my neighbors used to have one just like this, white and everything. they hated it cuz the turbo blew all the time...
