My Dad REFUSED to have me be a housewife, so in school...1962, so he made me take wood shop! Ha ha..what a reversal!...and I did envy those pretty kitchens when I peeked in.
It reminds me of the great kitchens we had in Home Ec in 1970, my school had all these great late 50's kitchens with matching GE colored appliances, one kitchen was pink and another was turquoise. It was the first time the school gave the boys this class and the girls Wood Shop. Needless to say I was hopeless on the sewing machine but the kitchens were heavenly.
@jdollinter This comment made me roar with laughter. My jr. high had HIMA: Home ec, Industrial arts, Music, and Art by respective quarters. I BUSTED MY HUMP to do well in Home Ec, Learned to cook, learned to sew...and got grief for being the only boy to get an A... But industrial arts, which had a really tough teacher, I was the ONLY STUDENT to get an A (only because I went after school every day to do extra work).
Very nice...what did June Cleaver and Harriet Nelson say when you invited them for a kaffeeklatch?
Seriously, I understand refurbishing appliances. My mother's best friend had a 40-year old stove rewired (by the man who originally installed it) because it was cheaper than remodeling to fit a modern stove. It was one of those early 60's built-ins, with the glass door ovens at eye (cabinet) level, over a cooktop that slid in and out when needed. Worked perfectly until her death 6 years later.
So beyond fabulous I don't even know what descriptive word would fit. There are those of us who love vintage appliances and those of us who make them part of our lives, so that they can function as they were originally intended. It makes me pine for my 1956 GE Liberator range in blue, which I once owned. Thank you so much for posting!!!
So Happy for you! Just goes to show,50's decor will never go out of style.Love the music,it would've been fun if you narrated the video in the way they did it old school for documentaries.
WOW! Speechlees here. You've done my dream kitchen. I'm doing pink. I found the wall refrigerator. I'm not one to restore it so any help/recommendations you can send my way would be most appreciated. I have a pink Fridigaire Flair range with flip up glass doors. Do you know of anyone out there that does electric range restorations? I can send you photos. Many, many thanks for your post!
Fantastic Job!!!! I love front loading washers so i was wondering do you use the combo washer/dryer much and how does it compare with the newer models..
My reason for asking about the appliances being modified, considering their age, they no doubt will consume a little more electricity. I know the dishwasher might use a lot more water than newer one's made today as will the clothes dryer. I have a few older appliances in my possession, the 1965 fridge for one, I had it looked over, the man told me this model was the best that G-E had to offer! It will possibly out live me and you he said! Good luck!
Great post, when General Electric made that wall mounted refrigerator it was cutting edge! I love the turquoise Proctor toaster 5:00. I have one in Chrome, found it mint and boxed at a yard sale. Have you had these appliances re- modified in any way? I still have my Grandparents Brown 1965 G-E Frost guard refrigerator, after seeing this, I don't feel like a throw back any more!
I have a 1940 turquoise refrigerator, electric stove and dishwasher that are still being used (occasionally) in my guest house that I would like to sell. Do you have any suggestions for me on the best way to advertise them?
What a beautiful job you did on the remodel! You were so fortunate to find that complete GE kitchen. I want to embed this video on my website to inspire others!
I bet when those must have cost alot of money when that Kitchen Center was manufactured. Was there an electric or gas version of the stove and washer/dryer units or was those particular units only electric?
Alas, the dryer function is still not working on this combo. I am planning on taking another look at this after the holidays. Problem is that I still don't have the wiring diagram for this particular machine...
I have just been putting it into the drum with the clothes. Later models (1958 and up) featured dispensers for detergent, bleach, and fabric softener - a huge improvement!
The show is wonderful and your turquoise small appliance collection is a beautiful reflection of your obsession. I am exhausted after watching it. Every picture showed work, like one of those reality shows. You have worked hard to realize your dreams. I am very happy for you. Now relax. Tomturbomatic

What model is the electrolux? That's the one my neighbor had when I was a child, and I coveted it something awful.
