The understanding of the technic is to destroy your opponents center of gravity. This Sifu Lam has a complete understanding of the technic he's doing. In wing chun the practitioner has the ability to use a simple push or he may create a deadly fall. It's up to the opponent. Peace
Although I am not a real big fan of MMA, I do rrespect them for what they do. So many different styles or arts out there all have there points, and we all have certain ones that we prefer, so I respect for what they are even if I don't really care for them.
We can all learn from the different styles one way or another.
I prefer chinese martial arts, mostly the internal styles, which is very powerful and works well for me.
Wing Chun is A self defense art. It's a different philosophy to mma. Jeet kuen do is the first form of mma. Combat styles are all good it depends on the fighter. No style is better then others...however I just prefer wing chun as It suits who I am.
I agree in the sense that too many people forget UFC, MMA etc all have rules. This immediately limits your options. I am not dissing any particular style just pointing out the difference between actual combat and sanctioned fights.
EXACTLY, people have to understand that wing chun is for survival. Brazilian jiu jitsu is effective in the ring, but useless in the street. Why? being on the ground is the last place to be when you got the thugs' friends coming and kicking your face in.
@zappafile just imagine there is no rule in MMA or UFC.... if a WC guy can use all body weapon, I believe that every other fighter could too. If a WC guy can use finger jab to the eyes or kick to the groin, why can't an MMA fighter do the same on the street? I am not an MMA nor UFC fan, but it's just my thought.
@maliciousdoc You make a good point. It's a common misconception that Wing Chun guys go around trying to poke everyone in the eyes with their fingers. If that's what you're relying on, you'll be in for a shock when some guy on the street is more vicious than you. Those are only desperation moves. We rely on our structure and footwork more than anything else. My sifu always tells me that if you have to use Biu Jee (finger jabs) a lot, you might win the fight but your kung fu still sucks.
and iFlegias i agree, but i dont think MMA fighters will just stand there if theres a groin attack hehehe. And who do you think is the best matchup for Gary Lam?
MMA fighters are too sloppy and try to go for grapples and knockouts too much to win against someone so skilled as Gary. Wing Chun is great because its situational, and you're meant to flow through.

Gary Lam would destroy them. He is too skilled and too fast, especially for an actual fight outside of a ring.
