Saw Starlight at the Apollo in 1990 I think it was and was absolutely blown away by the whole thing. At the time I was 16 and used to write poetry. As soon as I'd seen it I bought the LP and wrote a poem telling the story. I sent a copy off to the theatre with a letter saying Greaseball was my favourite character and Drue sent me a signed photo! Still got it somewhere.
I worked at the Apollo when he was there and women were throwing themselves at him and he treated them kindly and with respect. He never put his hand in the cooker jar, as far as I knew, and he always chatted with the usherettes front of house, unlike some of them.
yeah, SUCH a shame he only continued for another *15* YEARS after this vid! Drue Williams is a legend who put in fantastic performances since the original cast. No shame in him leaving after so long.
I saw Starlight Express quite a few times in the West End in my misspent youth. Drue was definitely the best - no other performer could do the stunts he did, especially during 'Rolling Stock'
