  • Dolphins are just gay sharks

  • What do you think will happen? What is it that causes salmon to destroy the ecosystem? what is the evidence that farmed salmon destroy the wild salmon? and what is the big "difference" between farmed salmon and wild salmon? yes! they live in completely different environments, but this should not have any great significance for the next generation of wild salmon? excuse me, but I think you exaggerate too much. anyway, you can't stop it . fish farming is the second largest industry after oil .

  • This Is Bullshit..we need food and we need farmed fish

  • Farmed fish are great as long as they're not damaging the ecosystem they're being raised in. Atlantic Salmon farms here in BC, in the Pacific Ocean, are proving to be causing problems time and time again. Now, if we could get those farms into closed containment, on land, where they can't have any negative effect on our local waters, then all is well.

  • Watch what happens to the Sockeye runs over the next ten years...Bitch.

  • We must eat, and its a fact. Acvaculture is our future, future for all us. But we must doing all farming process carefull and with high standart of sustainbility.

    Dont panic.

  • @raibowtroutmonger sustainable fisheries and clean water are our future. Putting salmon farms in BC's waters have contributed to a drastic decline in both of these areas.

  • @Alaskrab

Maybe this is not only one reason!!! Or maybe it's just your opinion. (decline salmon sockey)

  • @Alaskrab Wrong.

  • Hi, German TV has produced a television report about "Marine Harvest" and its ruthless director John Fredriksen. I have uploaded it. If you understand some German, just click on my name, the report is called "Lachsfieber" (which means "salmon fever").

  • Do you know how much food (wild fish) the salmon have to eat to grow 1 kg??

    Aprox:2.5- 4 kg

    Depends on temp, veg.add. etc

  • @15joey04 I think the ratio may be even higher - Following that, the farmed salmon are flown to makets abroad- How is that for sustainability?

  • Funny how the salmon have been in decline from before salmon farms in BC, but farms are the cause. In Oregon, a similar decline is blamed on the Dams that were built decades before the decline started. In California it is blamed on the farmers taking more water, when the water diversions haven't changed much since the 60's.

Perhaps overfishing, increased population density along the coasts, dramatic increases in fish eating birds (eat smolts) and seals might be the real cause.

  • Funny. Salmon have been in decline along the entire west coast of the continent from BC to California -- starting before farms. In BC the claim is salmon farms. In Washington, Oregon and Calif the ENGO's blame dams, diversions, forestry and farm water usage - no salmon farms. Anything but overfishing or the increase in population density along the coasts.

Volpe claimed a decade ago, also with absolute certainty, that Atlantic Salmon would take over all the rivers in BC. Didn't happen.

  • But don't both sides of the argument have a vested interest? On one side we have the corporations/fish farmers standing to lose money and on the other we have the anti-salmon farming crew standing to lose research grants and media attention.

We need more researchers on this topic that don't have an agenda or state their conclusions before they've finished gathering the data. That applies to both sides of the argument.

  • Another outstanding piece of bullshit from the so called environmental biologists who claim to have credentials but never want to admit to where they came from. Alex can claim anything she wants but she has yet to prove it. Eleven years of experience with fish farming after over twenty years of commercial fishing has taught me that there have been ENORMOUS strides in development for fish farming. Wild stocks were already in trouble in the early fifties. The DFO has studied these runs for years

  • i worked in broughton archapeligo for a period of time and watched as farm workers burned crows alive as well as pumped all kinds of shit into the chuck so you might as well say thanks to mainstream while ure at it cause their company is a gongshow and disaster waiting to happen do u how many escapes go unreported ?the answer is lots and it sucked working there ill never farm again after what i saw out there as well as idiots spray painting wildlife and snapping birds beaks of so they starve!

  • I can't think of one other conservation movement that proposes eating a species to try and save it. Anybody else see a conflict here?

  • Come on, don't tell me that those lice did not exist before breeding. Any kind of parasite existed before or after farming comes to place. Why don't they admit that the wild salmon are "already" having parasitic problems even before captive breeding starts. None of the "experts" dare admit. What they're good at is being jealous of peoples' success and try to kill as many industry as possible on the pretense of "Enviromental Impact". What do you think? er?

  • The problem mainly is that sea lice on adult fish is not a problem. They have developed scales, and any sea lice that attach to them are only an annoyance. However, sea lice on juvenile fish that haven't yet developed the protective scales are fatal to the juvenile. So if the juveniles die before they can reach maturity, there are no adults to come back and breed and continue the population. The parasites used to affect 10-20% of juveniles. Now they afffect 80-100%. THIS is the problem.

  • Let's remember Alexandra Morton is an American funded by American interest groups. The US has already destroyed the logging industry and the commercial fishing industry has been in decline for decades. The tourist industry does not rely solely on salmon to attract people to BC. All the worlds wild fisheries are in decline. What is more important ?? producing food to feed the world's growing population or people taking soon to be forgotten pictures of bears and whales ??

  • Hello there, be reasonable, humans started to breed fish or other animals, so as to avoid harvesting the wild ones. Now that these farmers have heed to "advise" from so called "enviro experts" earlier on; Now they are coming down hard against the farmers for comforming to the earlier idea of farming against taking the wild ones. I think all these so called "researchers" are ADHD patients just want more attention given to them. If they don't farm, wild salmons should be wiped out 50 years ago.

  • I totally hear what you're saying. Yes, the lice existed prior to farm fishing, but not to the EPIDEMIC number that they do now, due to such a high volume of adult fish living in such close quarters. If the fish farms were not open net, any problems the huge numbers cause would be contained, but because they are in open water and open net, any problems, viruses, parasites, pollution, that happen in the farm is transferred to the surrounding wild areas.

  • Historicaly, over fishing has done the most damage to these marine ecosystems. Now that there is only a remnant of the salmon and their genome left we must make large changes now.

Of course it is obvious that there should be an MPA over most of the B.C. coast now. Click on the hot link on my youtube page to see more about the Stream Keepers and logging.

  • Yes, there are too many people on this earth and they must be fed. However, I have worked firsthand with these farm and I can attest that something needs to change. They are having an enourmous effect on the natural environment and I only fear that people will not open their eyes to this for another 20 years. At least they can land-lock all farms. That would be a good start. PS, I wouldnt let my family eat those fish.

  • SURVIVAL??

    HOW about peoples survival?

put in order u priorities ,if u dont want eat fish or red meat or chiken, then u could eat worms ,insects, and grass, and let the people eat wherever they like;its why they farm fish, salmons, cows, chickens pigs everything we eat its remplased ,so nothing its lose.this salmon think make me hungry but i rather have a 3pounds steak for dinner right now

  • did you even watch the whole thing you uneducated fuck?

  • The fact of the matter is the WORLD needs

farmed salmon, we need to eat!!!

do you eat chicken???? b/c it's farmed too

  • Salmon farming MUST change if it wants to continue. Thank you for posting the truth.

  • Great film Twyla

    Keep up the good work

  • I believe the outcome of placing farm pens where they are is known and calculated to reduce the competition of wild fish.

Governments and corporations only have one god. Money.

I don't think the planet can sustain this level of greed for much longer.
