@waddleduckie1 modern elevators are hiting their limits in the tallest buildings because of cable weight. we need alternatives if we are going to make buildings higher. Don't know if vacuum is a feasible option but Electromagnetic is.

@skull666skull, the literature on their website says power loss causes it to gently descend to the lowest level. That's actually the best feature, I think, that the trip up requires electricity, but the trip down uses nothing but valves and gravity. I don't get the impression you can make it fall abruptly as long as the seals are good, and the moment the seals fail it won't lift off the ground floor...

Its safety depends on the design. If it sucks from the top and the chamber surrounding the occupant breaks, that would result in a probable death by suffocation.

If it operates by pushing the air up instead of sucking the top, that would be safer, but it's still not all that safe.

if that were to happen the lift would fall to the bottom slowly as it presses against the tube, and then you simply open the door and the tube will re compress naturally.

lol... It is cool for an idea but... I think it is rather slow and then probably uses more energy than the ones we have now, and can only carry a very small amount of people and safty issues like if the vacum stops working-- instant death( fall to your death)
