  • This is, by far, the most beautiful presentation of Phantom I know of. I downloaded this version from Archive.org as soon as I saw it was available there. Unfortunately the score is almost inaudible, even with my speakers blasting full strength. So I added my own score. I went with several pieces from Beethoven's 9'th. Can't go wrong there!!!

  • Best version of the film, I think

  • 85 years ago, wow, but I wish the scene with the man with the lantern was there

  • @TheBlackndwhitepictu I think that scene was to hard to restore, did you see the black and white version, it was barely visable, so I guess no colour really made it better!

  • I want the sound reissue on here the music on the sound synchronization is cool it's a shame that the sound synchro is the only place to find it...

  • Does anyone know if the spoken 1929 version of the film is available for download or purchase?

  • @imlaughing2death Feewwww. O_o good luck finding that. you should Ask The Phantom reviewer.

  • This is how silent films used to be presented. Color tints were added for theatre goers and music was played live, and according to the film itself. Great upload.

  • has anyone like Lowry Digital restored the original to a Blu-Ray release?

  • @chikotube No blu-ray has been issued of the 25/29 original. I'm sure if there ws the web would be buzzing with news, like with Metropolis.

  • @trans8010 now they just did released the movie on blu ray

  • Beautiful tinted version-- but where's the man with the lantern? In any case, thanks for the show!

  • hold on....I thought the 1929 film had dialouge in it (or bits of dialouge) anyway I love the tecnicolour the blue, yellow and purple really adds to it....Makes it seem more scary actually

  • @Peadarisback

Actually, if you buy the Milestone 2 DVD set, you'll get not only this exact version, but the original 1925 release (unfortunately unrestored and in full black and white, but still pretty good considering it's 90 years old. The 1929 version is available with the surviving dialogue sequences synced to the film. Plus umpteen other drool-worthy bonus features...check out Amazon for the full lowdown.

  • oh ok thanks. Is the 1929 film fully spoken (apart from the Lon Chaney close ups) or is it just one or two spoken sentences?

  • 85 years old to be precise.

  • Well, techincally its a mixture of both the 1925 and 1929. The footage with Chaney is all shot in 1925. :)

  • But I thought that the 1929's version was talked?

  • Is this the 1925's version, or the 1929's version? Thank you, if you can answer me.

  • it's 1929.

  • Отлично! Спасибо, что выложили)

    Great! Thanks for posting)
