No, this is not turbulence. Once while flying from Beijing to San Francisco, we experienced turbulence so bad that the drink cart in the first class cabin left the floor and smashed into the ceiling. On another occasion, a Sabena flight from Brussels to Hamburg see-sawed down the runway (left/right) with the wingtips almost touching the runway during a landing.
If you have really have flown thousands of times, you wouldn't be so scared while the a/cf is descending through the clouds, cause this nothing more than a completely NORMAL approach...
Leaving Atlanta once, in a 727, we ran into a network of 25 or so thunderheads reaching to about 50k directly in our flight path. The plane was almost in continuous extreme left or right turns, avoiding them. Clear skies all around so the thunderheads stuck out like sore thumbs. Beautiful. Flew a lot. Never saw anything like it before or after.
BTW. Thought this guys eyes were going to pop out any second - couldn't watch too long. And, turbulence? You get more on a rough runway...
u have to understnad that turbulence is when the plane is friking going up and down violently... this is no turbulence and the aoutopilot was on btw. so if u actually call that turbulence please try flying in a rainy thunder storm NOW THATS TURBULENCE!!!!
thats a smooth approach in my eyes...thats not even turbulence haha and of course the pilot is a pro, every pilot is a pro! my flight from ontario to atlanta was turbulent talk about wing flex...this is nothing
Aren't you supposed to have powered down your device PRIOR TO LANDING??? You know, anything with an on/off switch as directed by the flight attendant!!!!!
Pilot wasn't a pro lol these planes nowadays are mostly controlled by computers and they automatically react to turbulence etc pilots don't have to do that much.
@Shaftsus Very true, especially if we're talking about an airbus which is basically a computer with two random IT-Support techs sitting in the cockpit LOL :) No offense to the pilots ofcourse!
@HeathrowSpottingHD All landings are manual, the autopilot only navigates you to the runway, it doesn't land the plane for you (otherwise there would be no use for pilots).
@290GISHWHES Yes most Landings are manual but read again what I said.. "I highly doubt he was manually flying that FULL APPROACH".. Approach and Landing are different parts of Flight. Decent>Approach>Final Approach>Short Finals>Landing.
@appleglory FYI, autoland is not allowed at all situations, when visibility lower than minimum, the airport closes and directs the planes to other airports. All landings must be manual, although sometimes u disconnect the AP at 50 ft., u still have to flare the plane urself or otherwise it will slam into the runway... And CAT III C is the only ILS approach that offers autoland, but it is still not in service because they are still designing it for ZERO VISIBILITY TAXIING.
@winsun96 lmao. I have a CPL. What do you have? What you have just stated is the obvious reasons for a flight diversion. All landings must be manual? are you an idiot? How do you think they land with a RVR of less than 800 and Ceiling of 0?
@appleglory what i have is probably lack of knowledge, but still not that bad as for u to call me idiot you moron... Flight diversion cuz i cant fly yet cuz i am 15... and although autoland is permitted u should still flare urself for a smoother landing...
@winsun96 You said it yourself. lack of knowledge. If you are il-informed on this matter whyd you post a comment on something you know nothing about? Autoland has nothing to do with whether or not a landing is smooth. If the conditions are IMC the chances are the pilot will use the auto land system. Pilots are human and can become dis-oriented in IMC hence the autopilot is a safer option to fly the aircraft whilst both pilots monitor the systems. If you don't know anything shut up.
@appleglory of course i said it, if I knew things better than you, that would mean that u r way too "intelligent" to be knowing less than me.... BUT ANYWAY, anyone can share his comments, although its not right, there will be ppl criticizing, but its good to share opinions so ppl can correct u and then u learn something new, just like i did now. SO DONT TELL ME TO SHUT UP BECAUSE WHAT IM DOING IS NOT AGAINST YOU OR AGAINST ANYONE.
@winsun96 Then why would you even comment about something you aren't totally sure of? Autoland is usually used for Instrument Conditions. It has nothing to do with how smooth the landing is.
Well then there must be a valid reason why all the airlines I've travel before don't allow them during take-off and landing, and that is AA, UA, CO, AM, MX, JR A6, DL, SW, BA, LH, KL and VW. (Airline Codes) Now I am aware that you can certaily use some devices since they don't affect the aircraft performance or it's communication, but that's after a certain altitude not during the critical moments of a flight which landing and take off!
stop complaining about electronic devices they only dont allow it for 2 reasons, one they dont want you dropping it and it flying to the back of the cabin and 2 it ties up cellphone towers, meaning that the cell phone is attached to a lot of towers therefore lowering the amount of space for each tower
guys its true that u should not be using electronic devices under 10,000 feet but its also true that the only devices that may interfere with the instruments of the plane are wi fi devices (cell phones, computers ect.)
u wrong, their technology wouldnt be affected by this, I mean the airplane cost millions of dollards and for a cheap camera they wont run the change to be affected lol
LOL, I remember this one time returning home to my moms and pops, the turbulence shook the plane so hard I like shat myself inside man scared me so much, and I have had a few extremely rough landings where the pilot whom I guess was off -my ass hurt a bit after....
You're just a nervous flyer. You were descending thru cumulus clouds and a few normal bumps. Nothing. Not worth your hype..Take a pill and chill next flight.
Well, by the reaction of those kids near you, I can tell you those turbulents weren't nearly as bad as they may have seemed. I've been in some turbulents that took me streight out of my seat even though I had my seatbelt on tight. Everyone screamed! Did you know that an iarplane can fall up to 15 times the normal speed of gravity?
Most of the flight is controlled by autopilot. The plane might/might not have been manually controlled for the landing. Generally the autopilot is disengaged at 200 feet above the runway.
I don't understand this video. The 45 second intro was a waste of time, and the rest of it is just a normal approach to an airport. WTF??? I don't understand what the big deal is.
@midwestairlinesinc. I certainly hope your so called friends aren't doing auto lands all the time, if they are I don't want them on my aircraft and think their licences should be revoked for putting people in danger. Unless L.V.P.S are in force the ILS is not protected leading to possible deviations as vehicles or other aircraft pass through the beams, also not all airports are CAT III and auto land are not permitted. Auto lands are carried out when the visibility is below CAT I RVR 550m. It is
You know your on a bumpy flight when the passengers applaud after landing. You're the only one who seemed to be freaked out by a few bumps. "Pilot was a Pro"??? How?? He simply flew the plane to the ground. Had there been strong cross winds upon landing I might be impressed.
my JetBlue flight from Boston to Newark, NJ was horrible.

The pilot said "We are unable to find a stable altitude, and it is expected to shake even more after few minutes".
by the way! i was watching ur vid again, and i noticed u were filming this during the descending for landing (since the curtains seperating the YC/CC were open) ofcourse this will happen! the plane reached the clouds, and it will continue to shake until it is no longer near any cloud, this happens during take off too when the plane reaches up the clouds and goes thru them, uve got nothing to worry about, u cant avoid it, its way of nature, very normal and perfectly fine
im a flight attendant, ive been through the worst turbulence u can imagine, so bad that if someone was to stand up (even us the crew) we'd probably hit the ceiling, this stuff happens ALL THE TIME, its perfectly normal, its actually ok! since a shaking of the plane caused by strong winds, the plane is smart enough to descent and ascent back up, thats what ur feeling. you have nothing to worry about, my guarantee :)
@TheNameIsDorin by the way! i was watching your video again, you filmed it during landing since the curtains (seperating YC/CC class) are open, its even more normal! during descent (for landing) the plane is reaching down obviously thru the clouds, and they are the reason for turbulance, unless theres a cloud free sky (which 99% of the time never happens) the plane will shake! very very very normal, it also happens during take off when reaching the clouds, clouds make a plane shake, dont worry.
Did I miss something? Where was the turbulence? I love how the kids are just happily chatting away in the background while this guy is having a mild panic attack.
Pilot a pro??? Give me a break...he's up there finishing up his newspaper while the First Officer eats his crew meal. Its called AUTO-PILOT and AUTOLAND....its just a button...thats the real pro.....
@midwestairlinesinc Hahaha, that was almost funny. By the way, just exactly who do you think takes over when there is an emergency or some of the "auto" systems fail? Hmmm, let's see.......oh yea, it must be the two "pros" behind the controls.
@midwestairlinesinc That's a shockingly ignorant comment from someone with an airline related channel name. Just fyi, less than 1% of all commercial landings in the United States are done with autoland. Most pilots like to hand-fly the approach via the instruments (including me, but only in small planes, of course).
Trying flying from Paris to Frankfort over the Alps..man I have seen people get shoved from side to side and oxygen mask come down too. This is minor in my opinion.
this looks like very small turbulence, I didn't have flown thousands of times, but every time you go in a cloud ,the plane chakes, and that is so normal,I ecxpereand a lot off heavyer turbulence than this,by the way,EVERY PILOT IS A PRO,they are the top off the people on earth, they are trained and and trained all over again !(sorry for the englisch mistakes,I learned most off my englisch by tv)
Turn off your dam phone and dam camera and other "electronic devices" when flying under 10,000 feet asswipe. A) it's the Law and this video is Evidence and B) some older planes have unshielded instruments under the passenger compartment that are susceptible to interference... but you wouldn't know that 'cuz you're a doofus in love with your own voice.
@Miata822 Negative. An iPad is a form of a Computer am I not correct? FAA Approved for both Private and Commercial Flight in the Flight Deck. United especially use them I believe. Phones on Airplane mode during Take-off,Climb,Decent & Landing is fine. No signals going out then nothing is going to happen. Tell me how a camera is going to bring down a plane? No because they're not transmitting devices. I got mates flying for BA/EK/QF that video their landings with their iPhones/Cameras..
@iiPwnd That's because all the "holy shit look at how scary the turbulence was on my flight OMG OMG OMG" videos are all of mild turbulence, and if they actually experienced even "moderate" turbulence they'd piss their pants ...
Pretty routine, especially for ATL in summer. Lots of BIG T-storms. That airframe was making a creepy sound though. For someone who's flown "thousands of times" you sure are a nervous nellie.
I've flown in and out of ATL dozens of times. What scares me is when they're staking because of storms. LOT of planes doing cirlces. Plenty of potential for a midair. That is after all the most dangerous parts of any flight anywhere in the world, takeoff and landing. The flight's very safe
Sorry...I missed you name...it is what...Alice??? You say your name is Alice? Right...well Alice...just about anytime you go thru those types of clouds, you are going to get bounced alittle bit...sometimes a big bounce and sometimes just alittle bump...sorta like what it looked like here. Thats ok Alice...go get your nails done and suck down a glass of milk.
That turbulence was quite mild. I hit similar turbulence in a Boeing 737-400 going from East Midlands (in the UK) to Mahon (in Menorca). The airframe produced a similar noise, as we plummeted around 1,500 feet, making annoying children around me scream and causing my drink to spill all over my jeans. It's pretty gut-wrenching when you hit big turbulence when flying on any aircraft really
that didnt seem that bad. ive been in worse over china. if i were sitting next to you, id probably be nervous and shove that camera up your whining ass you inconsiderate jerk
@zennie62 Lol you, Sir, are mad because he has known better than you have! I have experienced ENTIRE FLIGHTS with much stronger turbulence more than once ! And when i was a kid, we went through a thunderstorm (over the Sea of China) with the biggest turbulence i have ever experienced. You are scared because of your lack of knowledge. This turbulence was... what? 1.5 G, that's nothing and completely normal in aviation. Have a good day
@ericsandalic ok he didnt ask you if you seen worse? he was jsut saying that was bad turbulence, and if i sat next to you i would probley ask you to take that dick out of your mouth and stop being an asshole
@ericsandalic i didnt even see this comment and i was gonna say ass soon as he started to say that dumb shit iif i was sitting next to him id be like yo shut the fuck up !
That's not really a lot of turbulence, besides, the autopilot was flying you through it, the pilot is just turning the heading and altitude knobs until he's captured the ILS then it's the approach mode button. He doesn't switch off the AP until just before touchdown.
@onenutmonkey234 People shouldn't fly too much. Should fly only for real reasons, not for holidays. You call a long flight on a plane a 'holiday'? To tire your legs and to stress about whether you'll make it alive? We belong at home, that is the best hoiday. Flying on a plane should be restricted to real reasons, not holidays..
@onenutmonkey234 Flight is an extraordinary thing to experience, I didn't say it isn't. I just love looking out the window of the plane at night and watching the distant lights below, and wondering what is there. Flying is a privilege, many people dreamed of flying (Da Vinci) long time ago, but their dreams never materialised. But what I am saying, is that we should fly for very good reasons Eg. moving country, visiting relatives, business etc, but not for Holidays, forget it...
Dumb. This always happens when you fly through cloud. It's like driving your car over some gravel and expecting it to be a smooth ride :S Don't ever fly here in New Zealand during teh winter mate, you'll shit yourself!
I have a bloggy instead of a flip i got an update and applyied it and now my camra works like a peice of shit the zoom sucks now and its blury when i zoom and it was a 250 dollar camra fuckin pist
No disrespect intended, but they're just a few small bumps. Quite normal during climb and descent. When you have a cup of coffee and it jumps up of the tray and lands in your lap it then becomes turbulence. :-)
No, this is not turbulence. Once while flying from Beijing to San Francisco, we experienced turbulence so bad that the drink cart in the first class cabin left the floor and smashed into the ceiling. Most pilots like to hand-fly the approach via the instruments (including me, but only in small planes, of course).

Trying flying from Paris to Frankfort over the Alps..man I have seen people get shoved from side to side and oxygen mask come down too. This is minor in my opinion.

Hear those kids? I dont they where complaining about turbulence. So why would you?

fuckurmother6969 2 months ago
this looks like very small turbulence, I didn't have flown thousands of times, but every time you go in a cloud ,the plane chakes, and that is so normal,I ecxpereand a lot off heavyer turbulence than this,by the way,EVERY PILOT IS A PRO,they are the top off the people on earth, they are trained and and trained all over again !(sorry for the englisch mistakes,I learned most off my englisch by tv)
a090006 2 months ago
i seriously doubt this guy's claim to have flown "thousands of times"...

Turn off your dam phone and dam camera and other "electronic devices" when flying under 10,000 feet asswipe. A) it's the Law and this video is Evidence and B) some older planes have unshielded instruments under the passenger compartment that are susceptible to interference... but you wouldn't know that 'cuz you're a doofus in love with your own voice.

karo596 2 weeks ago
@Miata822 Negative. An iPad is a form of a Computer am I not correct? FAA Approved for both Private and Commercial Flight in the Flight Deck. United especially use them I believe. Phones on Airplane mode during Take-off,Climb,Decent & Landing is fine. No signals going out then nothing is going to happen. Tell me how a camera is going to bring down a plane? No because they're not transmitting devices. I got mates flying for BA/EK/QF that video their landings with their iPhones/Cameras..
HeathrowSpottingHD 2 weeks ago
@Miata822 A camera doesn't give off a signal, thus it gives off no interference, "doofus".

in every single turbulence video there is always the asshole that sais: "ive been in much worse" no one cares.
iiPwnd 2 months ago
@iiPwnd That's because all the "holy shit look at how scary the turbulence was on my flight OMG OMG OMG" videos are all of mild turbulence, and if they actually experienced even "moderate" turbulence they'd piss their pants ...
pubuman 2 months ago
@pubuman you can keep it to yourself then.the video is about his experience not anyone else's
iiPwnd 2 months ago
@pubuman besides how can you measure turbulence by a video??
iiPwnd 2 months ago
you call this turbulence
TheTerminator1204 2 months ago
Pretty routine, especially for ATL in summer. Lots of BIG T-storms. That airframe was making a creepy sound though. For someone who's flown "thousands of times" you sure are a nervous nellie.
I've flown in and out of ATL dozens of times. What scares me is when they're staking because of storms. LOT of planes doing cirlces. Plenty of potential for a midair. That is after all the most dangerous parts of any flight anywhere in the world, takeoff and landing. The flight's very safe

The advert before the video started was for United Airlines... the irony.

Thats ok Alice...go get your nails done and suck down a glass of milk.

i remember i was flying from NY to Miami and the plane just dropped a few thousand feet...... never shat so many bricks!
javier032492 3 months ago
That turbulence was quite mild. I hit similar turbulence in a Boeing 737-400 going from East Midlands (in the UK) to Mahon (in Menorca). The airframe produced a similar noise, as we plummeted around 1,500 feet, making annoying children around me scream and causing my drink to spill all over my jeans. It's pretty gut-wrenching when you hit big turbulence when flying on any aircraft really

Marmalade624 1 month ago
That's not really a lot of turbulence, besides, the autopilot was flying you through it, the pilot is just turning the heading and altitude knobs until he's captured the ILS then it's the approach mode button. He doesn't switch off the AP until just before touchdown.

You look like you don't fly much...
onenutmonkey234 5 months ago 57
@onenutmonkey234 People shouldn't fly too much. Should fly only for real reasons, not for holidays. You call a long flight on a plane a 'holiday'? To tire your legs and to stress about whether you'll make it alive? We belong at home, that is the best hoiday. Flying on a plane should be restricted to real reasons, not holidays..
ziamosgendura 4 months ago
@ziamosgendura Are you kidding me? People shouldn't fly too much? That's your opinion. My opinion is that flying is amazing.
onenutmonkey234 4 months ago
@onenutmonkey234 Flight is an extraordinary thing to experience, I didn't say it isn't. I just love looking out the window of the plane at night and watching the distant lights below, and wondering what is there. Flying is a privilege, many people dreamed of flying (Da Vinci) long time ago, but their dreams never materialised. But what I am saying, is that we should fly for very good reasons Eg. moving country, visiting relatives, business etc, but not for Holidays, forget it...
ziamosgendura 4 months ago
@ziamosgendura Again, that is your opinion. I fly every chance I get.

No disrespect intended, but they're just a few small bumps. Quite normal during climb and descent. When you have a cup of coffee and it jumps up of the tray and lands in your lap it then becomes turbulence. :-)
