To give the people below me a heads up. The car this gentleman has been reviewed still has the 6 cilinder. As of today, BMW is basically throwing every 6 cilinder out of business if the number is below 30 (28i, 23i, 20i) except for their diesels. So expect that in the very near future, every new 528i, x3 28i, 328i etc will have BMW's new N20 4 cilinder engine. This has already been done in Europe.
It sounds a little less spectacular than the l6, but it certainly has a masculine sound.
@ztinny1990 thats probably the 2012 model. this is the 2011. i hate how everyone is trying to be eco-friendly.. lets burn as much fossil fuel as much as possible!!!
@ztinny1990 it is a four cyl in the U.S In Canada the 528.i is a inline 6. bmw.ca the 4 cylinder will most likely be in our new 328i ( our our 323i) both used inline 6.
@ztinny1990 That's the one my dad just got as a company car. Despite its V4, it's twin-turbo, so it's fairly powerful, but obviously nothing drastic. Overall a pretty nice car.
Everything he is stating in this clip is true. I was really disappointed with the 'ultimate driving machine' 528i this time. It is such a sluggish car. the gear is constantly changing and it never reaches high rev for you to feel the bmw power that it once had back in 2006. what a disappointment 528i is. go with 535i... now that is a bmw.
In Europe 528i was recently renamed to 530i and can get Adaptive Drive now. Interesting that in any other test Mercedes is considered as pretty low quality vehicle and gets beating from everything from 5 series through Jag XF to Audi A6. Obviously diesels are much more popular here, 530d is extremely fast 40mpg machine and 520d is in real life almost as good as 528i but you get 50mpg with small diesel. It is quite cool to see on board computer to show 930 miles range on one tank!
Finally, a review of the base 5-series--well done, thank you. What exactly is the point of this car? So far as I can tell, it comes with a BMW badge and price, and none of the traditional BMW characteristics: 'dorky' wheels, no leather, poor handling, less power than a V6 Camry. Why would anyone buy this car? $45-50k for what? I'm not one who judges cars solely based on numbers, but as this editor showed, this car just isn't good to drive, period. Hmm, a $50k BMW that isn't good to drive. Wow.
a camry hasn't got rear weel drive

I don't think the E-class has a nicer interior, it's also noisier on the highway.

Very good review. I actually just tested this car yesterday, and agree with everything he says about this car.
