This is amazing...i have always wanted to see footage from the Kilauea Iki-Kapoho eruption....I cant wait till I go back in sept to see the new summit gas vent!! YAY!!
WHOA! i live in Kapoho now, it's neat to see it when it was actually a village (now it's a small residential subdivision) Pele just started a new show about 13 miles from my house... certainly nothing this dramatic, but lava is always awe inspiring!
thats cause in the 50s there was only 1 commentator and orchestra employed. lol didnt you know?? and most people die from pyro-plastic flows and explosions than from lava flows , but still like u said wouldnt like to be that close with such flimsy protection. btw if you freeze frame at 6min 41 its looks like a salamander ....
Why does every video from the 1950's have an announcer and music that sound the same? Funny to watch this. I live in Hawaii and worked in the park for a few years...used to drive by Kilauea Iki all the time.
Mr Moore ,thank you so much for posting these videos , i very much appreciate the chance to view them, I can see what i have read about , CHEERS, JSF.
This is a really outstanding video, both informative about Hawian erruptions, as well as having fantastic photography and sounds. Most interesting. Thank you.
As a young boy, I witnessed both the Kilauea Iki fountaining at night, as well as the Kapoho outbreaks. Even from a long distance away, the heat from the lava would cause severe burns on the faces of viewers who watched for 20 minutes or more. Btw, Iki in Hawaiian means small or little.
cool video

This erutpion was on Kilauea Iki, it's very close to Kilauea and the date of the eruption it's correct. Iki means son.
This is an excelent movie. Congratulations!!!

Io sono un grande appassionato di vulcani e,da buon italiano :-), preferisco l'Etna ma devo dire che queste immagini sono davvero spettacolari.
