  • what are the passenger cars

  • @gtasandman

    MTH Amfleets

  • @RailRide thanks

  • Railride..... If you ever wanna give up your trains (Probably never) Puthem on ebay and I would BUY THEM!

  • Cool nice work

  • Your trains are excellent! Keep'em runnin'!

  • where did you get the Northeast Direct cars? and how much do they cost? just wondering cause i love Amtrak and have a lionel layout.

  • I got them from a semi-local dealer. I doubt they have any more, but you can go to the MTH website and use their product locator to see if any other dealers have them. The item number is 20-6531.

Alternately, you could look around for MTH dealers who have ordered the new Amfleet sets which will have a more accurate subdued chrome plating that looks more like stainless steel. Those cars are scheduled to appear in September '09, number 20-65143, and 20-66142 for the two-car add-on.

  • thats really nice and looks great, but i was wondering where you are from because the AEM7s dont sound like that, neither does their bells and horns. Thats the sound of a diesel engine, the AEM7s are electric with overhead power supply. They sound more like the hum of a power transformer and an electric fan volume turned up about 50 times.

  • In my reply to "S2Berk" I mentioned that the horn and bell is from the Genesis diesel. That sound might even come from the F40PH (I have one but haven't run it yet)

In a lot of cases, the "proper" sound effects aren't available because the companies involved couldn't get an "official" recording session with the railroad and had to depend on non-professional contributors.

Electrics are the hardest to record--you *need* a RR's cooperation to get anything beyond traction motor blowers and horns.

  • yeah thats right, cool, if you take a look at my 'Amtrak Test Run' F40PH i actually used the sound from a Mack engine mixer truck on 20,000 rpm. I tried using a bathroom ventilator to simulate the sound of the AEM7 but it was too much wind and sounds more like a passenger jet. With a mixer ill probably have to comibine some sounds.

  • hahaha, yeah its a passion we dont think about money, especially after you buy it. Dont get me wrong, we do consider costs, but its worth the savings. I use to feel guilty, but then i realized there's people out there doing worse things. Except Europe, there trains are very expensive.

  • well, its Americas #1 Hobby. Its a hobby not a babby toy. the engines use dc motors which require electrical physics knowledge. you can create electronic circuitry desings which can lead to electronic engineering, it uses electricity moving parts and small detail parts which is dangerous for babbys. and many people say thier fathers ran sets which would find your comments offensive. and i have about $10,000 worth in model inventory. and this stuff sells like hot cakes on ebay.

  • nope you do my freind you do...

  • then try something more crimminal. since you take that i got issues, then crimminals must not have issue unluess you think this is crimminal activity.

  • Homophobia is the biggest smokescreen for a closeted GAY.

    You have issues!

  • Good Stuff

  • Gotta love that horn!

  • Funny thing is, that's the same horn used on the first-gen Genesis diesel. See "Amtrak Freight" for that one.

  • metro north?

  • No, but I have a few of the MNR Bombadier coaches (short versions by K-Line). That train will be lengthened before I make a video of it.

  • love that rc train
