The Steripen is effective against crypto and giardia and other nasties in the water, but you're right -- it isn't effective against pesticides and other chemical pollutants. But then again, boiling doesn't eliminate pesticides either. And besides, water that travels three miles from snow-capped peaks to the location where I'm drinking it, is already going to be pretty safe. The trick is to know where your water is coming from.

Yep, I guess it is (I don't have a fish tank, but that would make sense). It's also the same concept as the sun purifying water.

I had to go back and look at what I did between 30 and 33 seconds. I never know what to do at the ends of clips, so all the faces I make are completely unplanned. I think I'd rather purposefully make a fool of myself than do it accidentally!

Nice video paco and I was wondering do you know if the steripen classic can fit into the type of gatorade bottle you are using or if it needs a wider hole like with the Nalgene. Anyone know?

I believe the Classic fits better into the bottle than the Adventurer. The Classic has a round, conical tip, while the Adventurer is rectangular. You could probably ask 0takop, since he actually has one.

Thanx Paco, that makes sense and I actually bought a classic steripen and haven't had the opportunity to use it and though I have nalgene bottles, I don't drink gatorade. Yet now I'm thinking of making the switch since the gatorade bottle is soooo much lighter. Keep up the great work...love your informative and fun videos! Warmly, Laurie

Good stuff, Paco! Great idea for a relatively hands-free filter. 5 *'s!!! Just to let you know, based on your previous video, I bought a SteriPEN Classic (for the easily available batteries) to be a back-up for my MIOX pen. However, since it takes 30 minutes for the MIOX solution to sanitize and only 90 seconds for the SteriPEN, I think the MIOX is going to be the reserve and the SteriPEN will be promoted to the first call.

I think you've got a good combination there. Use the Steripen for instant gratification, but if you want to purify larger amounts or if you don't have access to clear water, you've got the MIOX.

Another point about the video, the now damp bandanna when worn is about as good as portable air conditioning. Nice pick-me-up accompaniment to the cool spring water.
