Yes, poor Martha...didn't remember a thing until she spent hours of therapy and hypnotism. Of all Nibley's daughters, only Martha was abused, only Martha recalls anything. Alas, the only physical scars Martha is suffering are the ones between her ears! Boyd Peterson has done an admirable job defending Dr. Nibley from Nibley's demented daughter.
Yes, uh-huh, there's NO SUCH THING as molestation in the mormon church! He chooses this BS story about somebody else and doesn't address Martha's internal physical scars from HER abuse. LAME!
Ann Madsen, senior lecturer in the Department of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University, said the beauty of the scholar was that he was looking at everything he could find for truth, in the gospel and out of it.
My brother is a dissenter and it's impossible to ever get him to shut up about the LDS religion. If there weren't substance to the LDS faith, I think that my bro would just let it go. Maybe I'm wrong?

Raised LDS, I remember Hugh Nibley at Education Week in California when I was growing up. While a very smart man, a book written by his daughter Martha Beck gives another perspective. You can read more about Hugh and Martha in her book "Leaving the Saints".
While sad because of the sexual abuse accusations against her father, it is funny, credible, very moving and a great read. Like us all Hugh wasn't perfect, but you would expect more from a LDS intellectual giant.
Boyd is also one of my alltime FAVORITES since he wrote that biography of Hugh. I also am on a few email lists with him, and I have always enjoyed his insights.
Nothing surprises me here in Utah anymore. Especially sex crimes.

PROVO, Utah -- Hugh Nibley may have done a lot of writing and lecturing, but he also did plenty of looking, too.
