Adam did it wrong. I went to Tony Robbins and walked across hotter coals than those with no problem, no pain. Adam needs to get in a mental "peak state" with a positive burst of energy and sense of strength, then he needs to walk with certainty at a normal pace, then look up (proven to lessen pain) and say the incantation "cool moss". Then he needs to have his feet hosed as soon as he gets across so the coals don't stick to his feet and burn him. It's really mind over matter.

It's the same principle of myself picking a red hot coal off the living room carpet and throwing it back into the fire place. It only worked because I did not grab the coal for more than a second so I had put enough kinetic energy into the coal to move it through the air and back into to fire, with out burning my fingers.

Using what? a thermometer? lol most of the native cultures that practiced fire walking never even had a concept of temperature measurement. They simply heated the stones until they were white hot, and then had "faith" (i.e., placebo) that they would be unharmed.

White hot? Somehow I doubt that, besides, native people did have some rudimentary science skills. They used them when ever they went hunting for food(tracking), and they no doubt tested their herbal remedies on other people before they decided which ones did what. Not as effective as modern science, but sometimes better than nothing, and probably sufficient for measuring temperature, not as well as modern science, but well enough to decide what burns and what doesn't .
