  • He came to our school when i was in year 5.. and all the person who went up could say was "hello everyone".. and he still made a killer tune hahah

  • and goddamn at that last part, what is that a high E he hits?

    Mal rules.

  • probably the best thing I've ever seen.

  • This is awesome, I love how people can create something from seemingly nothing, it's wonderful. I read the hmoy thing down futher, I feel embarrassed for them. They might have their big shot doctorate, but so what, I've seen you (mal) do some stuff that just gives me goosebumps it's so good, like you and Darren Percival at woodford in the mornings, so freaking good :) spontaneous live acts are an art form, hmoy obviously hasn't been enlightened to the fact that art is in everything, there are

  • He is Dub FX's "father"

  • @Uphillyout pretty much lol

I think he was one of his major influences

  • i was there! :D

  • my neighbor's name is tim, he has the same glasses !!

  • They are taking the Hobbits to Isengaard! -Tim said

  • What did the volunteer guy said, when he recorded into the loop pedal?

  • Thats my boyfriend! hahaha

  • that was really cool. Amazing that he can make all those instrument sounds with only his voice!

  • there takin the hobits to irgagon.... aa. meep!!

  • isongard

  • Isengard

  • i wandered into a tent at woodford afew years back stoned off my head and this guy was playing.. blew my fucking mind lol

  • i saw him he was fuckin good

  • He was at my school today!

    Cool bananas.

    Look up Waterbear.

We got to do the incredibly high bit.

  • he came to our school last week and he was hilarious. just amazing

  • LOL he was at school like 3 days ago he did a seminar for us, hes hilarious

  • i watched this mad lad with frank woodley way awesome. it was on comedy channel.. try and catch the add of it.

  • I saw him at Glastonbury festival in 08. What a laugh. he made my day. there taking the hobbits to isensard.. te he.

  • After reading all comments, here's mine. His music is full of fun & cleverness, as is the man himself. Maybe he shows off to get attention & approval, but people go to folk festivals for fun & frivolity, he provides it! Also, he inspires other musicians technically. If you are looking for emotional depth & maturity, music that satiates the soul, look elsewhere. He provides a child's sense of unrestrained fun and possibility with skilled technical ability. That can be appreciated for what it is.

  • HAHA!! I saw Mal at Perigian Originals yesterday, what a legend!! Cant say i've seen anyone do this sort of thing before, he's amazing!

  • i think mal's great but i don't have as much studies as hmoy.. i hope to one day be less of an ignoramus and then i can look down on mal while i listen to bjork and wax my Dali moustache !!

  • Tee hee! OK...the hmoy24677 thing (see below): I'm touched that so many have leapt to my defence. Thanks muchly. I'm happy to accept that there will always be people out there who think what I do is crap: I'd rather be abhored than ignored. & people are still booing The Rite of Spring! It's a little perplexing to be so rousingly dissed by someone with "so much studies", but hey, I also dig Björk, Eno, Heap and Sigal, so hmoy can't be all bad. But I like Warhol too: That's art for you! Love, MalÜ

  • schwachsinn

  • pah ! me and him had a jam a few weeks ago

    good times....

  • Mal Webb is not only a musical phenomenon but also a very inspiring and lovely person to be around. He beams positivity and doesn't show any of the arrogance I've seen from the comments some people have made; particularly hmoy. It's quite funny how seriously some of you take yourselves!

  • Giving this the name of "art" is like accepting that the Campbell onion soup can with an autograph from Andy Warhol can be called "art", that is just an insult to artists from Da Vinci to Dali, just to mention a couple.

Plain ignorance, my friend, plain ignorance

  • Gee, i didnt know you could play more than 3 instruments, knew how jazz was formed and had any idea of how technology can do really cool shit and to entertain people. I also didnt know that you met and asked both Da Vinci and Dali what they thought about whether this is a form of art. You clearly have no sense of all that art encompasses. Mal Webb is a musical genius. Eat a fridge full of dick.

  • There is no need for insulting. And yes, I DO play more than 3 instruments, jazz guitar among them, and I compose electroacustic music, because I´m a PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN, Dr. in COMPOSITION, fyi. So when I say that something like what this guy does could not possibly be called "art", I really know what I´m talking about. Again, plain ignorance, my friend, plain ignorance. If you like it, fine, enjoy it. There is MUCH MORE to music AND to sampling than this.

  • wouldnt your ignorance kinda be doubled by the fact that you cant accept that this kind of music is actually a form of art also? lol... that's like saying any other music, apart from that of which you like, isnt an art form but is shit, just because you dont like it. and who gives a shit whether its art anyway.. he's an entertainer. I'm entertained. so is everyone else. lol you may be a professional musician and have a Dr. in composition but from what youve been saying, your also a wanker. lol.

  • Perhaps. I have never doubted the possibility of being myself an ignorant. After completing so much studies, you get to realize that what you know is merly a fraction of what exists in the universe. Even though I respect your taste for this kind of entertaining manifestations, I can´t seem to find on it those elements you can´t truly describe that makes something a form of art, from my point of view. Don´t get me wrong, I listen from Bach to Foo Fighters, but still, this doesn´t make it for me.

  • From my professional point of view, I couldn´t possibly call this "music" or "art", with no intentions of disrespect. A good example of a master in sampling and electronics in comercial/pop music is Bjork. A good example of truly deep electroacustic non-comercial/non-pop music would be Bryan Eno, or Rodrigo Sigal. As I see it, there is more to music than this. Saving all possible comparisons, I wouldn´t call reaggeton music either, for example.

Have a succesful and Healthy life, my friend!

  • oh fuck up you twit Mal Webb is a very talented musician and if you are bringing up the fact that bjork is a master of electonics then you have completely missed the point of the performance you bigot. Of course there is much more to music Dr. Obvious. The reason for this is because music has no limits and no rules. Don't tell people how to express themselves cause thats really stinky-brained.

  • Why does all art have to be like art made by Da Vinci and Dali?

  • Couldn't this be considered art but just different from their art. You could even say they are better artists, but that this could still be considered art. Couldn't you?

  • jealous?

  • Arrogance, my friend, plain arrogance.

  • I have to say that is pretty awesome!

  • you should see him live he is so good!

  • oath hes the shit live!

  • i want that teeny trombone

  • u rule man

  • I have seen Mal many times live, and he is SEETHING with art, brilliance and genius. Your comment is sadly ignorant, hmoy.

  • Anything that is even slightly "musical" is music. Whether or not it is GOOD music is a matter of taste(opinion), and if you can create someting even vaguely approaching Mal Webb with a looper , totally improvised, in front of a live audience, then I salute you, for you are a marvellous, uber-talented artistic, musical freak.

  • Sad? Nothing sad here, except that your comment is judging someone's musical contribution to the world on a sample of one piece of music. If you don't like it, thats fine - but to use the word 'ridiculous'is very harsh when you know nothing of this guys talent - this vid is just a bite of the cherry...so maybe think about that next time before you go bagging out someone's work without really knowing anything about them.

  • I insist that calling "music" this ridiculously simple work with a sampler it´s just plain ignorance. Music is much more than this (even the simpliest pieces of work from REAL composers are waaaaaaaaaay better than this BS).

And his work with a sampler... well, let me tell you taht from my point of view, even another crapy so called "musiscian" as Imogen Heap deals with a sampler ten times better than this guy.

So sorry you confuse art with this.

  • I have seeing Mal so often, and I love his music so much.

  • I so agree, I've seen him live twice, and the stuff he pulls out during a whole show, especially when it's in a really tiny intimate venue, is incredible. This kind of big live show where he probably only has limited time doesn't compare to seeing him do it live to a room of 20 people!

  • Stop spamming other people's videos asking to go here, asshole.

  • They're taking the hobbits to isengard!

  • My Hero

  • Haha

I saw Mal Webb at some science fair in Canberra a couple of days ago

    He was simply brilliant.

Still waiting for the video to load...

  • Just saw this guy a few days ago at the big green gathering in Cheddar, UK. A remarkable talent - wish he ws my music teacher!

  • Thats just great, does anyone know what loop pedal he's using

  • An akai headrush pedal

  • but how does he get that small sample of sound in the loop, the little 'eh' on every 2nd 3rd beat, imagine what he could do with a rc50 with 40mins of sampling time, very musical dude

  • @rhythmachine And I just bought a Boomerang III looper, which is indeed a fine toy.

  • ive got both albums. and wow this is cool. and is malwebb1 really mal webb or a fan of mal webb? haha

anyway mal is a lyrical genious.

  • @newnamethatnoonehas I am indeed me... and I have 3 albums!

  • On a rainy day, we walked past the Mandala tent at Glastonbury and saw a certain Mal Webb, charged by some guys pedalling a bike to create the electricity for the amp. He then played a track called porridge and blew us away. Come to Edinburgh some time Mal!

  • I was one of those guys on the bike! Mal was a great find for us too - my 9 year old son loved it.

  • Mal mate, welcome to the club of people I call My Heroes. (Actually someone else should welcome you because I'm not in the club.)

  • mal webb is so kool he came to our skool yesterdayy! it was sooo gooddd =]

  • wow this guy is so good. he came to my school today - actually the song he made there was kind of better than this one. very entertaining, and he even says the same stuff, like, "its mycrophone now its yourcrophone" and that thing where he says to give everyone a big hand...

he is a genius though, and really entertaining

  • Yeah, sorry Mirandah, once you've got a good bit of banter, it's hard not to use it! Yay, love, Mal

  • Go Mal!

  • I heart Mal. I was in this audience, and I've been in many others, both at the National and at Woodford. Don't ever miss an opportunity to see him!

  • I saw him live at a little gig in Brighton. Loved it! Amazing what he does with his voice... and what a fantastic musician, too. He's GRAND!

  • Mal Webb is a genius! I've seen him a few times and he's always magnificent. His music is so clever and funny and his stage act totally engaging - he seems to keep every audience entranced, you just cant believe all those noises are coming out of his face. This video is great but i want to see MORE Mal Webb!

  • this is great! i saw this guy live at the national folk festival 2006! classic!
