Tiffany Chin 1987 US Nationals Long Program

How many coaches did she have during her last few years? John Nicks, Don Laws, Frank Carroll... all top coaches. Why did she keep changing them?

After failing to qualify for the 1987 World Championships, she retired from skating and went to college at UCLA, graduating with a BA in English.

I give her a lot of credit. She was completely able to view her marks AND speak with the reporter not only in a cohesive and educated manner -- but she doesn't seem out of breath or stressed out!

the happiest i saw her was when she was not competing but skated a short program kinda like disney on ice after all this was over. she wasn't competing and she was just enjoying herself.

this girl never looked happy skating. you can tell her parents were pressuring her or she was raised that way. she looked pretty stressed all the time and nervous, like she wished she were somewhere else but has to do this and pretend she cares. also, it's stupid of her to wear a costume that's too small.

I was so hoping Tiffany regained her triples (her FLIP and inconsistent SALCOW) and both Tiffany and Midori Ito compete in the final group in Calgary.

@cpquadskater - the Qualifier for Olympics in figure skating is the Nationals that precedes the Olympics. 88 Nats qualified for 88 Olys (and/or that is when the team is chosen.)

If you analyze this long program of Tiffany's, you can see it's actually a very beautiful and well-constructed program. Too bad the difficult jumps weren't there. If Tiffany landed a few triples here, the program would have been unbeatable. It's a complete program.

I wish she had tried for the 1988 Olympics. Just to be sure, does anyone know exactly why she didn't make it to the 1988 Olympics?

@JimAsian1 She didn't make to worlds or the Olympics because the 1987 nationals was the qualifier. She finished 4th in nationals which which did not qualify her to participate in either.

Wow, thanks for posting this. I didn't realize she had: (1) switched to a new program going into the Nationals that season (although it's somewhat recycled from the 1982-83 season); and (2) changed coaches for the 2nd time in a year.

She was such a beautiful skater, and I am sorry her career didn't go to far after 1985... I thought she might become unbeatable, based on the way she progressed from 1981 to 1985.

Tiffany displayed a nice sexy wedgie during most of this routine! And that was even BEFORE she fell! She wore a costume that was apparently too small for her, and it almost immediately rose up on her, exposing her butt for most of this routine. Unfortunately, they have tightened the rules now, and figure skaters are not allowed to expose their butts in their routines anymore.

Okay guys...in all fairness-at least where Natalia Mishkutenok was concerned-the first move was their split-double twist and Dmitriev caught her very high under the arms causing the costume to come up significantly. To her credit,she actually did attempt to make an adjustment to the costume during their forward inside death spiral. A lot of multi-tasking(!) doing 2 and a half revolutions, keeping your concentration AND making a costume adjustment during the OP. They performed it perfectly BTW.
