Quite possibly the most memorable performance on AI ever. There's a few contenders for best performance, but none outside of the top 4 semifinals. And no other Idol has produced a memorable moment like this so early in a season.

And this guy was cut in hollywood week. Ludicrous. Just imagine what we might have seen if he stuck around. Probably for the best though. I'm just kind of hoping they show some class, and bring him back to AI for a performance this season, since Ellen is there.

I don't know who "Bryant" is, but both of Gates' parents sweat money...old family money. He was going to be well off regardless. To compare his life to those of the millions of people who complete college is silly. People always bring him up when they try to make the point that you don't need college to succeed. I'm from the same town in Tennessee, and one story behind that is that he and his brother thought it would be cute/funny to go around talking with British accents at school all the damn time.
