  • the dark haired bloke with the sax looks like one of the " Oddies"

  • great song. Everything Roy touches turns to gold for me. Excellent

  • no1 20th september 1973

  • Is there where Rob Zombie got his look?

  • Truly, this man is a genius.

  • Fantastic memories of old Triumphs, coffee bars, real pubs and beautiful, beautiful women.

  • Huge Phil Spector's 'wall of sound' influence. Shame he went loco.

  • That guy (Mr Wood, I mean) certainly wasn't lacking in testosterone, back in 1973. I have seldom seen a man more well-endowed (with facial hair, that is)!

It is good to see Roy's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" back in The Top 30 singles chart. It is actually five places higher than Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" in the charts at the moment. There is a certain irony in that; given that, back in December 1973, the Slade Yuletide song outsold the Wizzard single by a n

  • @TheEctomorph [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about Roy Wood and Wizzard's vintage hits from 1973].

not inconsiderable margin. It would seem that nowadays, "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" is more popular with the general record-buying public than "Merry Xmas Everybody".

  • Woody - split from his evil brother Billy Connolly as a mere infant!, destined at a later date to rule the earth when they eventually discover the truth of their lineage - using their superhuman powers of comedy and multi instrumentalism!

  • looking forward to seeing him with the quo next week

  • was 13 and loving going to discos

  • Absolutely out of his tree. Brilliant track.

  • You get to the point, in creating a new look, where it's better just to shave it all off and start fresh.

  • Roy Wood's Wall of Sound!

  • Bill Odie on Sax

  • i got an advert to the saturdays whilst waiting for the video to load,

    0_0 what the hell youtube?!

  • @Metallica That's an insult to Roy Wood

  • @am1993, Billy Connolly would do a sterling job as the U.K's no1 Roy Wood tribute act.

  • well this is just Brilliant,im back to the 70s every time i play it and as im going through a divorce and its great to take me back to happier times, thanks for putting it on.......

  • you dont hear songs like that anymore brilliant

  • weren't they considered a semi-teds band,like rubettes,mud etc.jaysus lets hear some punk....fast.

  • @bohsgerry To the best of my knowledge, Wizzard were never considered a semi-teds' band - they were a GLAM ROCK group. (As indeed were Mud - for the most part.) I suppose Showaddywaddy could have been described as a semi-teds band, although labels like that are arbitrary - and not particularly precise.

Wizzard's chart-topping single from September of 1973 - "Angel Fingers" - was a classic of the genre (glam rock), and was WAY superior to 95% of punk rock hits (IMHO, at any rate).

  • Back to the days of glam rock ...... when hard men wore flared trousers, kipper ties ...... and grew 'mutton chop' sideburns.

  • Roy wood doing a sterling job as the U.K's no1 Billy Connolly tribute act!!!!!

  • forgotton for so long sad

  • Pop/rock music was better in those days - when Wizzard were @ number one in the charts - than it is now.

  • Back to the halcyon days of glam rock ...... when teenage hard-nuts and wideboys wore flared trousers, kipper ties and grew mutton-chop sideburns.

"Angel Fingers" was - and remains - a great track. It is right up there with singles like "Metal Guru" (Bolan), "Mama Weer All Crazee Now (Slade) and "Tiger Feet (Mud) in the pantheon of classic glam rock hits from the 1972 - '75 era.

  • fantastic love it

  • Try recording a sound like that on digital :0 .

Love it love it love it

  • merci I love Roy Wood !

  • Roy Wood is going to be playing in Looe, Cornwall in Sept. 2011. Go to wwwlooemusic.co.uk for more details!!!

  • love roy but this song down in my ears )

  • YES!!!! :) classic edward heath was prime minister-great man!!! and it was the wedding of princess anne and capt, mark phillips ;)

  • @angliaknightident I have never been a supporter of the Conservative Party - and I hope that I never will be (!) - but I have the greatest respect for Sir Edward Heath (G.R.H.S.). He was - imho - the only Tory politician of his generation who cared about ordinary working-class people and the unemployed.

Another thing that I liked about Sir Edward was the fact that he had very real "issues" (as they say in modern parlance) with that arrogant b*****d, Margaret Hilda Thatcher.

  • @TheEctomorph not that you instigated it,but your wise enough to know politics is the last thing needed here!!

  • @acme2263 Am I?! lol.

  • Jesus!!Rick Price is a lot like Hugh McDowell!

  • Roy Wood,absolute bloody genious

  • My First record !

  • Wooow! Before meeting Wizzard,I did never realize that the Saxophone is so wonderful!

sax gives elegance to the old rock!! I loved it.

Examples of it are Wizzard and Brian Setzer Orchestra.

  • Thats pure Glammrock-Love this music-just for ever...

  • Well, rock 'n' roll wasn't going to stay around forever. It's just that what's replaced it is so hideous.

  • is it just me but was Roy Wood good looking :)

  • lousy, It show how good Jeff Lynn was.

  • lousy,

  • GREAT MUSIC !

    GREAT BAND !

    GREAT TIMES !

    NUFF SAID !

  • it's good to see men happy at there job

  • Glam rock will never die, the best era of my life.

  • Dresdner sagt 100 000 000 MAL Danke...

  • so glad i was born in time for glam rock love this genius

  • @monskibabe me too !!!

  • yes this did get to number 1 for one week only.

  • master of the weird time signature

  • Roy Wood is awesome.

  • Excellent. Roy Wood was a very talented singer/songwriter, and made a big impact on the music scene between 1967 and '75. During that period of time, he had MANY Top 10 hits; firstly as a member of The Move, and later as the 'mainman' of Wizzard. He also had a couple of big solo hits, as I recall.

"Angel Fingers" - which topped the charts in September of 1973 - was one of the classic singles of the 'glam rock' era. When Mr Wood recorded this inspired single, he out-Spectored Spector.

  • @TheEctomorph roy was 1 of the founder members of the electric light orchestra also.

  • @gremlynne Yes, he was indeed. I don't know whether Mr Wood actually had any HIT singles (or albums) with that group, though. Did he?

  • @TheEctomorph Yes he did. 10538 Overture was a hit single featuring both Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne.

  • @cbak12sg Thank you for that information, sir.

By the way, did you know that Mr Wood's vintage [1973] album "Wizzard Brew" is currently available on digitally remastered CD? It contains several 'bonus' tracks not contained on the original album, including the superlative "See My Baby Jive" and the immaculate, Spectoresque "Angel Fingers".

  • Still a favorite of mine!!! Love the Wall of Sound!!!

  • roy wood accomplished so many great things then he just went pop rock......i have a hard time eeing the appeal of this on anything but a very shallow level.....fellow move bandmate lynne not only made it bigger than wood with with elo, but (in my estimation) created far moe artistically redeeming music.....i really wish wood and lynne could have made it work out.

  • another all time favourite,a fantastic musician, thanks Roy!

  • Brings back some great, happy memories, my mum used to sing this to me when i was a kid. :)

  • just fantastic happy music not like the crap now

  • Roy Wood = Coolest Guy With A Beard Ever ! :)

  • das ist DER song aus den 70ern. Fantastisch auch nach 1.250 mal hören...

  • did this get to no.1?

  • Cannot beat great uncomplicated pop from the 70's

  • Take away the kooky glam and dirty hippie hair and this is good ol' rock and roll. I'm impressed.

  • who is the drummer????

  • Clearly wearing his Phil Spector jones on his sleeve here; sounds like something Phil would've cooked up for the Shangri-las. Roy was a good singer. Glitter rock looked unique on a bearded face.

  • Being from the u.s.I have to say this is the wierdest band I have ever seen! The music is up there with early Sweet, T-Eex-Slade, Glitter etc.I loved that whole British glam era But Wizzad ??

  • I feel sorry for the modern generation as I went to the disco's in the 70's and this was my time, so glad all the younger generation can see what real talent is instaed of the "Generated Talent" of the X factor age.

  • @morgan34839 You just swore, you said * factor! lol

  • @morgan34839 Check out World At One by Gar-Fangle and the Goods - it'll restore your faith I promise ya!

  • crazy!!! they were too cool! so 70's!

  • more more more roy wood I MISS YOU!!!

  • Phil "Wall of Sound" Spector? I think not. Roy pissed all over Spector's Wall of Sound with his Great Wall of Sound! Magnificent as ever :-)

  • Hey,So Lionel Ritchie playd drums b4 The Commodores !

  • is it my pc? the sound disapears after less than a minute

  • Roy Wood is one of the greatest artists of the 70's.

  • This is brilliant,, thank you for posting

  • Now I just need to get this guy I love, to sing this song to me ;P

  • Didn't know Rob Zombie's dad was in show business.

  • @Miamigrl2

LOL it's not his father :P

  • love anything in the 70s

  • Did Roy over cook the tin foil in this one!!! Brilliant!

  • Even though Roy Wood is too hairy, he's very talented.

  • 本気で最高!!

  • a 70,s classic love it

  • Larry Stevenson rocks!

  • blimey, flippin brilliant !! o dear im old!!! great music ..thankks for posting this, i dont know how you do it!!

  • What a man, brings me back to London and all the good music in the 70ts. Am a great fan and just love, Move, Elo, Wizzard, Eddie and the Falcons, Wizzo, hang in there Roy.

  • takes me back to my teens 1973 i was twelve just moved to a new estate, moved alot then ,good times though

  • the best intro ever

  • all i have to say is... foil

  • Roy Wood looks like he's speeding off his tits! They really don't give a fuck, because they know they're brilliant.

  • @ZenGangster yeh i love it too, better than all the crap they dish up these days, lets all go back to the 60s,

  • Absolute Class. Makes you proud to be a Brit!

  • Is that Richard Tandy on keyboards and Hugh McDowall on guitar (both early ELO) in the backing band?

  • @Unterscharfuhrer Bill Hunt (ex ELO) was on keyboards and the guy who looks like Hughie is Rick Price (ex Move), atually Hugh Mcdowell was a member of Wizzard too, but i think he left the line up before this video was made

  • Roy Wood one of the greatest..

  • Never mind the negative people, this guy rocks in all ways possible, where has his type of talent gone?

  • I thoroughly approve

  • This guy is simply amazin, A real WIZZARD

  • Roy rules!!

  • roy wood, the best man of pop

  • Fun with a capital "F" - in other words, what you don't get from music these days

  • Loved this song and video - superb!!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!

  • Didn't realise angels were so versatile - swapped their harps for guitars and keyboards!

  • @hrpman

Too freaky! I played the keyboards in my youth! LAUGHTER!!!! Thanks for sharing this song - I really enjoyed it :-))

    angel

  • fantastic song. fantastic group. where is all the class music gone???

  • Es ist einfach einmalig.Roy du bist Spitze.Ich könnte mir es stundenlang anhören.

  • Glam-Rock pure^^ I love Roy and his genius!!! :D

  • My God is that wonderful.... First live gig I ever went to was 'Wizzard'.. Feb 1974 at the Glasgow Apollo. Looking back after all those decades and countless stunning gigs later, it makes me more than a little proud that Roy Wood broke my duck. Genius!!!!

  • hey Jens im with you! Is this a wall of sound or what!?Roy your a fuckin legend!!

  • Oh Ok....thot he was the guy from Thin Lizzy...Sorry

  • Ahhh hell yeah! I love this song...

Kudos to Roy Wood! You knock this one out of the ballpark!

    Hugs,

    XxxMelXxx

  • i was 12 years old when this came out still sounds good now i am 48 now takes me back to my school days wizzard slade david bowie mud and so on great bands still been played now

  • I never noticed it bedfore, but Roy was far and away the ugliest pop star of the 70s. A great artiste, but pug ugly (like half of the Glitter Band, who were another fantastic band).

  • Lynsey de Paul didn't seem to mind, although for such an attractive girl she chose Wood, Ringo Starr and James Coburn for her partners. Maybe something about opposites attracting.

  • @Glenn1967ful You seem to be implying that Mr Wood, Mr Starr and Mr Coburn are ugly gentlemen ...... and that, even when they were young and in their prime, they were never good-looking guys.

That is somewhat harsh, I feel - and, what is more, there are a great many women (literally millions, I should think) who would disagree with your view that these 3 celebrities are physically unprepossessing people.

  • Omg!! I was about 9 when this was out. And absolutely "LOVED" Wizzard! Seeing this again has taken me right back there! This guy is soooo underated its criminal!

  • roy wood genius

  • That looks like Jimmy Carl Black on the drums......?

  • wizzard used 2 drummers kieth smart has the beard & charlie grimma has the big hair.

  • The Drummer looks somewhat Familiar.

  • Always reminds me of an old boyfriend..his favourite song at that time.

  • Ummm....I think I get the joke!

  • They sure look to be having quite a bit of a good time!

  • Roy Wood was brilliant in The Move and instrumental in setting up ELO,but it didnt work so Wizzard was created and ELO went there way with Jeff Lynne......all three groups leave a musical legacy.

  • As we see here Wizzard was not only a group by Roy Wood. Bill Hunt was a real showman ! And Hunt was also very important part in recording. For example arrangements of the brass were made together by Wood and Hunt.

  • fantastic ... school disco memories ,

  • There are very few like him. "Boulders" is brill but I prefer "Mustard". What do others think?

  • Roy Wood is genius ! You'll only have to listen his excellent Boulders album, where he does all the instruments !

And brilliant work with Move,ELO and Wizzard.

  • Great !! thanks

  • That was a real Hit -also in Germany...

  • An.gel Fingers was another classic Wizzard song and got to No 1, for one week though. The guy with the Angel wings is Mr Bill Hunt and has gone back to teaching music in schools

  • I LOVE HIS VOICE.

  • The wonderful Woodie is doing concerts with Status Quo as a Special Guest in their UK tour but only in December 2009 - check it out - seats are selling fast!

  • Angelvoice

  • Absolutely brilliant! Roy Wood was and remains a songwriting genius!i agree with previous comments. Woody should be knighted!

  • Wonder how many top 10 hits Roy has written over the years ? Must be 20 at least.

  • Yes, it was Rick Price, don't think they work together now, but I may be corrected. Mariantc - Ex B'ham

  • angel fingers didnt even made the charts in australia but interesting though see my baby jive entered the charts the same month as angel fingers was released in the uk see my baby jive only made it to number eight on the australian charts that year

  • go and see woody as support act for status quo later in the year

  • Rick is still going ( as a duo act with his wife) , He's married to Dianne Lee from the 70's Duo act Peters and Lee

  • Who was the guy in the angel outfit playing bass guitar? i remember him so well on all of Roy Woods totp performances..Do they still work together?

  • Rick Price was on base

  • Awesome performance!

  • The sax player in the T-shirt... is it Bill Oddie??

  • England in the 70s... magic!

  • Loooove ittttt!!

  • Roy Wood is a genius!!!!!

  • He was a specialist when it came to Rock'n'Roll 50s style

  • OK, I like the Phil Spector meets Bill Haley in David Bowie's closet thing going on, and this is a pretty cool song.

But thank god for punk rock. That's what Roy was really lookin' for, and it's too bad he didn't pick up on it.

  • Que mono Roy Wood .... que ganas de follarmelo.

  • Woody looks and sounds so cool here

  • OMG that drummer has the greatest hair ever!

  • Hmm. Not bad, point taken. But if drummers with great hair are your thing, check out the Grand Funk Railroad. "Inside Looking Out" or "We're An American Band" should do the trick (they're great songs, if nothing else). Tell me that gravity-defying afro isn't the best hairstyle on a drummer (or anyone) in history.

  • Not to mention that dude from Boston had a massive afro as well. Pretty fly for a white guy indeed!

  • Roy Wood is the most underrated genius in the rock and pop world- this is pure class!!!

  • Oh dear, this reminds me of the late 1970s when John Conrad and Scott Reppert were among Fairmont's top deejays...who could forget the legendary Bill Coogle?

  • roy jou are fatastische ilove youmuziek

  • This is my fav song ever Roy Wood is truly the best what a voice and look

  • Awesome, <333...one of the best!!! 5*****

  • Queen failed in Somebody to love to

create a fine song after Bohemian Rhapsody.

But Roy Wood and Wizzard did a fine job

in this after See My Baby Jive.

  • 'I drove my motorcycle to that small cafe'

    Wood is the man.

  • Phil Spector is the sound of this song. But Wizzard was a very special group.

  • a god?

  • What a madman. He bleeds rock and roll. And he brings the phil specter wall of sound right in your face.

  • Es ist einfach ein Traum

  • Composer of the perfect pop song & a truely great bloke too.

    Rock on Roy!

  • Prince could learn a thing or two here

  • Astounding - the mans a genius
