Actually, the bulls had a Horrible team when MJ came in the league and weren't great for quite a while. MJ won 50 games in 88 with a starting lineup of Dave Corzine, Sam Vincent, Brad Sellers, and Charles Oakley while winning the scoring title, steals title, mvp, and dpoy. One of the best seasons ever. MJ was simply better than Kobe both with and without good player surrounding him.

And you are right, MJ was much better at getting his own shot, getting to the basket, and dictating to the defense, whereas Kobe has the defense dictate what he does and settles for jumpers much more often.
