  • Well, I've seen an orange butterfly in three different towns on the same day...I was hoping you'd say it wasn't really that common. I am taking it as a sign. WOW. Thank you for answering.

  • I want to know if it's normal to see butterflies on Long Island, NY in early October. I keep seeing a beautiful orange winged butterfly and I just wondered...

  • @Jbeanie46 If it's a large orange one, with some black markings, it's likely to be a Monarch, migrating south for the winter. Seems a bit late though and could be a straggler... =)

  • I just love these kinds of videos :P

  • I'm happy you're enjoying them - thanks a bunch for stopping by! :-)

  • AMAZING!

  • They had a really great season that year - adults and larvae were EVERYWHERE so it was easy to find and rear a bunch :-)

  • Their wings are like popcorn or a flower :D

  • It is interesting how they "pop" from the chrysalis and expand their wings like a slow motion kernel or popcorn! Thanks for watching :-)

  • Your videos are absolutely wonderfull & amazing. Thank you so much for creating such beauty & for sharing them with us.

I have to confess that I have to turn the sound down though, as I prefer to watch them in silence!

  • I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my work - thanks for watching! It's hard to write a soundtrack that works for everybody, so it's a good thing there's a volume control on the video player :-)

  • Yes, your work is beautiful, and much appreciated. You are very talented.

I do so understand about soundtracks and people's preferences from my own work, but I read somewhere that you liked to get feedback, so just thought I'd send mine in as requested! ;)

Thanks for taking to time to relpy!

    Mary :)

  • Nice to see it ^^ Great vid ^^

  • Thanks so much for watching! =)

  • Hallo,

    wirklich gute Arbeit. Sehr intessant.

  • Thanks for watching! =)

  • hmmm...at the begining they seem to be related to the cabbage white...which is another species i have dealt with. oh nvm they have grey/yellow checkers on the outer wing pattern. nice video footage! a little fast paced for my likings but still the mating rituall at the begining was stupedous! (: ttyl

  • They do look similar from a distance and they are in the same family as the cabbage white. In fact, there are 4 species of white (Pieris) found in my area, which look fairly similar; Cabbage, Becker's, Checkered, and Spring Whites.

It's interesting the different preferences I get from viewers where video speed and pace are concerned. Sometimes it's difficult to choose a speed that works for the majority! :-)

  • were they mating in the beginning? ps awesome work.

  • Yes - I managed to get the courtship and mating at the start of the video. That's usually one of the hardest parts of the life cycle to capture on film. Thanks for watching so many of my vids :-)

  • Cute. Oh the green guy in the back had just started to move.

  • Yea, they twitch like that off and on a lot before they do anything interesting. That one probably didn't do anything good until the next day (and I probably have footage of it somewhere, too) :-)

  • Excellent photography!!

    5 stars :)

    64m >:-)

  • Thanks man! :-)

  • not bad, maybe a little chaotic for my taste

    Congratulations on shooting

    Giuliano

  • This one WAS a bit fast-paced, and I would have liked to have more, newer footage to work with. Thanks for checking it out :-)

  • Fantastic photography and documentary!

  • Glad you liked - thanks for stopping by! :-)

  • i always wonder how you're able to do this. How were you able to capture all that in the wild!? I can barely do it at home. rated 5/5.

  • Nearly all of the macro and timelapse scenes are done in the "studio", with lighting and background staged to simulate a natural setting. It would be extremely difficult to get quality results if I had to deal with all the natural variables, including predators which can show up to eat your subject while you're filming it! XD

I also grow many native host plants to feed and rear the early stages at home. It's a lot of work...

Thanks for watching and the great comment :-)

  • Amazing how such a large butterfly comes out of such a small chrysalis !

  • Indeed! ...and some species (especially those out in the desert) can stay cooped-up in that little container for 5+ years, awaiting just the right conditions to emerge. Thanks for watching :-)

  • just HUGE smiles :) xxx

  • Thanks, butterfly girl! :-) I've been getting a lot of great footage lately... have you seen these on my other channels?

    :-)

  • I put these in a search and it came up with zilch :( .... I LOVE being called that :) xxx

  • Ahh, my mistake. I wasn't sure how you'd use them. The format I posted was for pasting into/onto a video URL. I never thought to search for them! I removed the "v=", now ths search works (tested):

    Enjoy! :-)

  • Aw! I really liked this one. The outdoor views are so wonderful.

  • Those are some of the hardest scenes to get, too! :-) I've been getting out there a bit this season though, and got a couple of other recent "in the field" vids on my other channels...

    Keep them coming, please:-)!

  • Will do! Thanks for watching and the great comment :-)

  • can u arrest these for rape or is the case not worth the hassle lol! good work yet again mate

  • Actually, if the girls aren't interested, they'll give the boys the brush-off, no problem. I've seen a number of courtships that last a few seconds and end with the dude having to go look elsewhere! Thanks for watching and commenting 8-)

  • Brilliant video!!!! always 4U! stars!***** all round ;-)

  • Thanks for the view, stars and great comment! =)

  • Awesome just Awesome! :)

  • Thanks for watching! :-)

  • Wow, I just can't get over how those big wings are folded neatly into that small space. Great video.

  • It hardly seems possible that such a big-looking bug can fit into such a small package - sort of like a pocket embrella! Thanks for the view and comment =D.

  • Another wonderful video! ★★★★★ as always! :-)

  • So glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching! :-)

  • ★★★★★

  • Thanks so much for the view and stars! =D
