Why did you take off the ram air hood?

@GeneralCracka That is a ram air hood, but for what it's worth, both the WS6 hood and the SS hood are both marketing gimmicks. For looks only, the way air moves a car, it creates a low pressure area on the hood, a high pressure area underneath the car - the best area to pull in "ram air" is actually from underneath the car.

If you took a WS6, Trans Am, SS and a Z-28, all of the same year, the fastest car would be the driver, not the car. They are the same.

@Tramsootru i love it. its perfect for DD and alot lighter than stock in my opinion. stalls to the full 3200. cant use it though until i get some suspension and a rear end and slicks. i tried and it just spun. i just flash it off the line and i still get a lil spin even with the radials but im runnin 7.8's ...i imagine once i cut down my 60 itll be mid 7's....then ill put boost on it. and wait to repaint it. and re wrap the interior and cover it up and go by a new toy. next car...idk.

@masterj131 I think the heads were $1,500.. Cam ~ $350.. I also replaced the pushrods, all gaskets, timing chain to a double roller, pulley, belts, etc, etc, etc.. The entire swap ran about $5k, after you add up all the stuff you need..Tuning, misc tools, parts, gaskets, etc, etc, etc..

I've been in the market to get a ram air hood for my TA and I like the sleek look of the firehawk hoods but the heat extractors on yours do make it stand out!

Nice ride man. The only negative i would have is I like the stock WS6 hood better. But hey not bashing it, its personal preference. Car sounds good and that's a pretty strong setup you're running. Prolly set you back a few grand haha. Sick ride though

@99Ws6TransAM Yeh, after I hit the deer I needed a new hood.. EVERYONE has a WS6 hood, so I wanted something different, so I went with this one.. :) Yeh, it set me back a few pennies.. I'm not sure how much, but I'd guess right about $6-7K..

I am not being a rude little prick, but what happened to the cam break-in at 2k rpm's for the first 20 minutes of start up?

@signyotitty With the hydraulic roller lifters there is not the same need for by the book break-in like the old flat tappets. I gave it a couple heat cycles and then changed the oil. Good to go.. SBC flat tappet lifters needed to conform to the cam lobe. This is crucial as the lifter is spun by the lobe, this prevents the lifter base from prematurely wearing out in one spot. The roller lifters do not need such a procedure, obviously. Most just stick the cam in, let it warm up and go.

We finished the major parts of the swap and just had to hear it run.. We rolled it out of the garage and turned the key.. There was no exhaust on the thing. It's not SUPPOSED to sound good..

@thc3636. Might as well get the moser 9". It's way better than the 12 bolt. I've got 4.11s in my 9" and still get around 28mpg on the hwy. But it's a 6 speed so it's gonna get better than an auto.

@91tt300zx Yea 6 speeds in the ls1 can get amazing gas for what you have. My lt1 is just tuned great. I only can get 25 mpg if im going like 65 or so...lol hard to do but can be done. But in town im getting like 15 to 16 but that all depends on how you're driving, haha

@grenade4lyfe no shit it's cammed. Cammed cars need to be tuned after putting the cam in so you aren't running too high of rpms at idle or while driving. It's just burning more fuel for less performance otherwise.
