Hey thx for the demo, I assume it's not just me, but you are running that Blues Jr pretty dirty already, then using the pedals. I have a
similar setup (except a Blues Driver pedal,
no TS9) and find this is the only way pedals sound good in my amp, if I run them into a clean amp, they sound tinny or thin. I also have to roll back that tone knob. Would you agree or not? Suggestions?
@wayfechylde3 absolutely i had keeley mod mine the tone had become so flexible, i was able to get anything from a SVR blues drive to a metallica distortion, unbelievable mod for sure, just look up demos and see.
Here is a classic 80s tone trick. Before people were making boutique pedals or modding the DS-1, guitarists were using the ts9 with the boss DS-1 together to get that nice singing aggressive 80s metal tone. Use the ts9 as a boost with the DS-1. You must put the TS9 before the DS-1 and set the TS9 drive about 11:00 and just play with the level and tone to your taste. Set the DS-1 tone at 11:00, Drive at 1:00 or 2:00, and level to your taste.Gary moore was used this setup before he went blues.
have the ds 1 too...it really depends on what amp you play...dude, the ds-1 sounds really great with your fender !! but it can sound like crap with some amps though
Tone around 9 is the only setting that sounds good on my computer speakers... I'm going to do a MIJ mod on mine that basically makes it sound like the earlier models but will less compression and more low end... and you only need to switch around 3 capacitors!
@spratty59 I disagree. Many boss distortion pedals sound great, especially the ds-1, the most popular distortion pedal of all time, used on countless albums
yes you definitely can, on my board I have two tubescreamers, mxr wylde overdrive and the ds-1. I use the tubescreamers for blues tones and to drive my mxr wylde overdrive which I use for harder rock stuff. You would need to get a couple of pedals to get jimi and slash though. This amp takes pedals really well and if you used like a fuzz face and a marshall guvnor you would have those two sounds.
Excellent demo, Tom. The Ibanez tube screamer setting around 7:14 really makes you sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn. The DS-1 gives you more the Angus Young / Jimmy Page sound. Liked the little nod you gave to "The Ocean". :) Rock on! - Corky
Hey guys I have a TS-9, DS-1, and a Blues Driver BD-2 should I get keely mod for the DS-1 or the BD-2 too?

its sooooooooooo nice the ds-1, just wish there was twice as much gain, that then, would be the perfect distortion for me.

Can I replace a TS9 with a DS1 with litle amount of distortion as you showed? or better buy a expensive TS9?
PabloDarioLi 8 months ago
For Marshall cranked tones try out BSIAB2 or 3, or Brownie!
DS-1 it's a lovely pedal btw very aggressive, Analogman can make it fly even faster!
but it will always lack of body and expression for solos... cheers!

This pedal is def worth it once you mod it, stock its very sterile.
mikeygheetarz 1 year ago
@mikeygheetarz thats what ive heard. i had one a while ago, it made my tone seem really... small, flat, i guess? does the mod make that a lot better?

...... "all knobs at 12" ..is it an unwritten law to do that ? I never judge any pedal by what it does at "12 oclock"

if you mix the ds1 and the tube screamer if set right, it sounds delicious

Boss Drive and Distortion pedals are HORRIBLE!
spratty59 2 years ago
yeah I can't say im a huge fan of them either.
tomlikesacdc 2 years ago 3
@tomlikesacdc horrible with a few exceptions, the SD1 is one of my favorite pedals, and the DS1 can be used as a cheap treble booster if set up right
sergeant137 1 year ago
@sergeant137 i agree, i play on an MXR wylde overdrive and an ibanez ts9

It depends what amp and guitar you are playing through, and mostly what kind of sound you are after. :)
