@TrueKinth that's because you have an HDD - the highest score for a HDD is 5.9 (windows score= lowest score). If you check, all the other scores (CPU, RAM, Graphics etc) should be much higher.

I Had a 7.8 index rating using a saphire 6950 2gb. with i7, for several months, throughout the entire rating except for the primary data transfer rate of 5.9. After I updated the drivers for the card, the index rating dropped to 6.6. No changes were done to the pc or the card setting, so I doubt the index rating of Microsoft is that accurate in assessing the performance of a pc. I don't like to fiddle around with my pc too much, I like to keep everything as is.

My PC gets a 6.2 score and thats because of the crappy graphics, my gpu gets a 6.2 for both gaming graphics and aero (Geforce 210 w/1gb DDR3), if it were for my CPU, RAM, and SSD well that'd be a way better grade. CPU gets a 7.3(Phenom II x4) ram gets a 7.3(4GB DDR3), and my SSD gets a 6.5(Samsung RBx Series 128GB)

Elric, your wrong on Xeon's.

What dictates if they are "gaming". Who gives a rip what they are intended for? They are a touch faster than the ix chips they represent. And you have way more potential with a Xeon, cause you can have 2. Having Xeon's is more "ultimate" than an i7 3960x. Especially when x79 Xeon's come out.

@gumberly Yeah, dual xeons arent gonna be good for gaming, you need a higher speed per core ratio, xeons have more cores but the clock per core is much lower to save on power consumption. The intel 3960x is perfect and is "ultimate" for gaming.

It's not like all those extra cores can make it slower. And not to mention, you have 24 threads now to do other tasks. So your machine can perform a lot of things at once. And Xeon cores are actually a touch faster than iX cores. But anyway, yes. Don't buy dual Xeon's unless your one rich bastard! :)

@gumberly Or if you use your computer for rendering. I have a 12-core Mac Pro with two Xeon 5670s and I love it. I use it for all sorts of 3D rendering and the occasional match moving. In my case, dual Xeons are a necessity.

However, my next desktop will be a custom build. Mainly because OS X is not the best choice when it comes to GPUs and I will be needing a Quadro 5000.

I have the same problem about score, the average score should be 6,8 instead of 5,8 , but it's determined by lowest subscore, i don't have anything good right now, waiting for my i7 2700k, then my new PC is ready (not completely new, old HDD and 1 year old v-card stays, anything else just changes) , right now i have Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz, 4GB RAM , using only 3.2 because of 32-bit Win7 Enterprise, 600w PSU, 232GB HDD, HD6850 1GB from XFX and GIGABYTE EP45-DS3P board.

As for all the 5.9 on HDD scores..only way to get past 5.9 is to use a SSD.

From what I have read on several websites is that Gigabyte gives livetime warranty on some of the X79 boards that have this 'problem'. The only thing the user must do is updating the BIOS to the most recent version.
