This was a cool show in the game show afternoon block on USA. Ron, didn't you do informercials not too long ago? And if I'm not mistaken, I believe you were a QVC host in the 2000's. Am I wrong?
Hey all. Just read all your comments about "Quicksilver" and I really appreciate all of them. I also believe the show had all the elements of a fun to watch TV game show. The re-runs (and/or new episodes) should be on a network like Game Show Network. Write your congressman! (kidding).
Thanks for your comments; it's pretty cool to hear from the host of a show I loved. :) I hope it reruns again too; it'd be great to have it back on the air!
I remember watching this and liking it a bit more than "Free 4 All" (okay, a LOT more). However, I remember when I saw the premiere, being completely baffled as to why they didn't have an announcer...
DId you know that it was created 20 years before it made it to air? By an ex Jeopardy champion? Apparently he was a champion on the Fleming version if it was created 20 years ago and pitched to Merv Griffin and CBS. Also Jimmy Cefalo was considered to host this before Ron Maestri did.
Thank you for this!! I've been curious about this one for a while! It really ain't as bad as everyone says it is. There's good play-along factor and witty questions that keep you guessing. The set and prize budget are quite cheap, but contrary to today's popular belief, a game show doesn't need a m!ll!0n d011azz to be fun and entertaining. I'm part of a ever-dwindling minority that enjoys a game show for the sake of the game being played, and not necessarily for the prize being played for.
Man, I was only 11 when I watched this show. It would come on at 1:00 pm, followed by Free 4 All, PYL, and Scrabble. I may have saw Free 4 All once or twice, but I would always see Mark L. Walberg's plug during one of the Quicksilver breaks. Hearing the theme on StYD takes me right back to this. Sounds like a buzz-in version of You Don't Say! It's coming back to me now...
Ron hosted on QVC in recent years. He was a contestant on syndicated Win Lose or Draw. Of course, this show didn't mention that this was the premiere.
The episodes didn't air in taping order. I have the 7th aired episode, and Ron said something to the effect of "we've been on a few weeks now..."
Apparently, a few of the earliest taped episodes referred to the Quicksilver answers as "Mystery Blanks". I've yet to come across an episode with that.
Hey, it's the McCann Twins!

Great show, this! I love how the questions and the answers can be misleading, so you need to use logic to work out the right answer.

wasn't this also on the family channel?
karaokeguy88 2 years ago
Nope; USA was the only network to ever air it.
Though I wouldn't mind if another channel were to pick up reruns... ;)

I think this show was under-developed. THe intro's too short, and a bit less energy than I would like... but the basic format has potential

I've been looking for this for the longest. Do you have Free 4 All" too?
DJBiv788 2 years ago
Yes I do. I originally had no plans to post it, but so many people have asked for it I've decided to go ahead and do it.
I hope to get it up soon. I wanted to get another BtB up here too, but the tape I need is missing.
