Hold on dude, I have a laptop that cost $400. More around $500-600, but it was black Friday when I got it. Anyway, I didn't get it cheap because I don't care about computers. I got it cheap because I cannot yet afford a more expensive machine. Barely could afford this one. But I enjoy this one. And I do hope, now that I'm 18, to get a Mac someday. Doesn't mean I stay with it, but it'd be nice to check it out. :)

For one, Jobs stole Apple. Jobs did not build the Apple I; Wozniak did. Jobs was and still is only in charge of marketing. Jobs is no way associated with the building or designing of the "hardware" or software implemented in Apple products. In addition, a computer's worth is in the hardware that powers it, not the aesthetic appeal of the casing. If you want to stare at something shiny, go out and spend a few dollars on tinfoil, not on a $1000 overpriced piece of porcelain.

Well, yeah, Eric, economics play a role. Most don't do that much and I don't think everyone needs a 2k+ system to check e-mails on. I think you look at a bit off. That's why VHS won, cheaper to mass produce over Beta, same with LCD. Plasma is superior overall, but LCD is cheaper...
The cheapest machine I ever owned was 2,500 dollars. It wasn't a Mac, a custom build. Not everyone buys cheap, nor do you have to buy a Mac to spend a lot.

Hewlett Packards are cheaply cobbled together trash. Hewlett Packard peripherals such as printers are nothing more then cheap ink guzzling pieces of trash. The only thing worse then an HP printer is a Lexmark printer. Some would say as long as it gets the job done. Theres something wrong when your printer costs 35 dollars and your ink cartridge costs 25 dollars. HP=bad computer and bad printers.
PS I'm not bashing all PC's. My old IBM Personal Computer 300pl runs well even with windows.

I was gonna buy a MacBook Pro, but now I am going to build my own PC for a little more, and it is going to be more kick ass than your Mac Pro, for half the price. Apple is a mobile company. If I want a laptop, I will most likely go to with a Mac. But if I am going desktop, I am going to build my own, custom, fast, upgradable PC.
My cosin bought an hp desktop with a tower made of brushed aluminium and the wires were Nicely paced and not to mention it only cost 550$ ( and it's running wendows 7 beautifuly)

What do you expect from a $300-400 computer? They're used for simple things. Hell, most of them are used solely for web browsing. To get a mac laptop for the same stuff they want to do, they'd have to go with a macbook, which is not exactly a great buy for a laptop for $1000. Judging the PC market by the selection you find in Best Buy may make sense, but you're only looking at a small scope. On top of that, new Macs come with newer 45nm Core 2 Duos while PCs sold in the aisles nearby are sold with older ones. THAT is why they're cheaper. They could make them with anodized aluminum and keep them at the same price, but the Macs have better, newer, more efficient processors.
This is why I buy directly from the manufacturers :)
Hey Emeek. I like this video except for the the direction of Apple. Steve Jobs has surrounded himself with many great people like Phil Schiller, Bertrand Serlet, and acting CEO Tim Cook. He has instilled in them this same great passion and desire for quality and innovation. And I seriously hope Apple does release a netbook. I'd love to have Mac OS X on the go. I'd totally buy it! I really don't think Wozniak has much of a head for business. He's a wizard behind the scenes, but he doesn't have anything close to Steve Jobs' business acumen.
Oh so now that it's all shiny aluminium everything plastic is junk... I remember a time, not so long ago, when most macs where in fact made of junky plastic and were still a LOT more expensive than pc's. In fact the last generation of macbooks were made of cheap plastic that discoloured after a few months of use. Remember that?
The main difference is that DDR2-1066 is overclocked to reach those frequencies while DDR3-1066 is standard at 1066 Mhz. Granted, DDR2 is faster with the 4-4-3 timing, the point was that DDR2 RAM in laptops with those speeds are extremely rare around where I live, even through online shops.
I'm not sure if DDR2 can reach those speeds and still be stable in laptops at all. Anyone know anything about that?

How so? Maybe Vaios come close in styling and, well, hype, but as far as quality? I don't think so. The ThinkPad T Series is the only laptop that truly matches (and, in some cases, exceeds) the quality of a MacBook Pro.
If you are being intellectually honest you have to admit Apple, for better or worse, is moving the market. The iPhone transformed the smart phone industry. A touch-based netbook with the right features could be intriguing.
Netooks are already out there with touch based features, some can be modded to have a touch screen built in for a pretty cheap price. Others have multitouch style features alredy incorperated onto the trackpad.
And yes the iphone has done well but in computing apple seems to do one thing, and thats bang on about shit being thinner and compromising features for this.
Macbook air is a good example, yes its the thinnest notebook but its missing standard features for the sake of him laying claim to this "thin" mantle he seems obsessed with. And how much of the air can actually be upgraded by the user without voiding the warranty? If i recall not much if anything.
The Zune is a dead end. The ipod will be taken down by the smaller, more nimble competitors like Cowon, Archos, and their ilk. Since they're generally better than their ipod equivalents, it will only take some time before the discerning consumer will "see the light" so to speak and end their addiction to ipods. I have faith and so should you.
Woz has been gone for a decade. He was the only one that built a computer in his garage. Steve just made money off his hard work and ran Apple into the ground once. He may have gotten lucky with the ipod, but apple is headed towards the ground once again, the consumer is smart enough to realize stripped-down, unupgradable shitty computers like Macs are not worth what they say they are worth, and they will buy the competition. I concur. PCs are fugly, just like windorks. The aesthetics of the big 4 PC manufacturers like Dell, HP etc. are about 10 years out of date. When was the last time you saw a Win laptop that wasn't also a massive pile of junk? Most of it is bling, cheap plastic, indentations, grilles, etc. haphazardly slapped together with poor build quality. You have to wonder who designs this crap.

I was gonna buy a MacBook Pro, but now I am going to build my own PC for a little more, and it is going to be more kick ass than your Mac Pro, for half the price. Apple is a mobile company. If I want a laptop, I will most likely go to with a Mac. But if I am going desktop, I am going to build my own, custom, fast, upgradable PC.

With 64 bit Snow Leopard You start within 15 seconds, and don't have to wait for all the crap still starting while booted. In 2002 when AVID 3 came on the market. The MacPro could already edit in more then HD 2560x1440p in 4/4/2. So much better quality then any Blu-Ray. in 2005 every could do that. Nowadays we use Pro-Res With SDI not HDMI. Sucker

What do you expect from a $300-400 computer? They're used for simple things. Hell, most of them are used solely for web browsing. To get a mac laptop for the same stuff they want to do, they'd have to go with a macbook, which is not exactly a great buy for a laptop for $1000. Same piece of shit build as the laptops from best buy you're talking about, but a lot more expensive for an equally shitty computer.

yeh... but at the end of the day its about the hardware and software. I couldn't care less what the unit looks like. This is pretty much apparent in all fields of life. Guitars are the same thing some guitars look bland but have awesome equipment in them compared to some expensive 2k guitar which equipment is not as good.

clear and simple even mac pro's don't have the hardware to back up there price tags!!! Mac stores are jokes all the people that work there are told to just rip on pc's to sell the product. macs are featured in popular culture, osx is nothing new and at the end of the day even the software on a mac is over priced. Macs my look better inside but a pc has a longer life span and is used by more people. 1 more thing majority of mac buyers are people that don't know shit in the 1st place.

Judging the PC market by the selection you find in Best Buy may make sense, but you're only looking at a small scope. On top of that, new Macs come with newer 45nm Core 2 Duos while PCs sold in the aisles nearby are sold with older ones. THAT is why they're cheaper. They could make them with anodized aluminum and keep them at the same price, but the Macs have better, newer, more efficient processors.
This is why I buy directly from the manufacturers :)

Hey Emeek. I like this video except for the the direction of Apple. Steve Jobs has surrounded himself with many great people like Phil Schiller, Bertrand Serlet, and acting CEO Tim Cook. He has instilled in them this same great passion and desire for quality and innovation. And I seriously hope Apple does release a netbook. I'd love to have Mac OS X on the go. I'd totally buy it! I went to Best Buy yesterday and saw a row of shitty looking netbooks and other garbage they were trying to sell. Hell at my Best Buy store they have someone from Apple who sells the Macs not someone from either Best Buy or Geek Squad.
And if Steve Jobs does have to leave Apple I hope that Steve Wozniak would step up to the plate and take over so the company won't turn into another garbage computer company.

The main difference is that DDR2-1066 is overclocked to reach those frequencies while DDR3-1066 is standard at 1066 Mhz. Granted, DDR2 is faster with the 4-4-3 timing, the point was that DDR2 RAM in laptops with those speeds are extremely rare around where I live, even through online shops.
I'm not sure if DDR2 can reach those speeds and still be stable in laptops at all. Anyone know anything about that?

Netooks are already out there with touch based features, some can be modded to have a touch screen built in for a pretty cheap price. Others have multitouch style features alredy incorperated onto the trackpad.

The Zune is a dead end. The ipod will be taken down by the smaller, more nimble competitors like Cowon, Archos, and their ilk. Since they're generally better than their ipod equivalents, it will only take some time before the discerning consumer will "see the light" so to speak and end their addiction to ipods. Woz has been gone for a decade. He was the only one that built a computer in his garage. Steve just made money off his hard work and ran Apple into the ground once. I concur. PCs are fugly, just like windorks. The aesthetics of the big 4 PC manufacturers like Dell, HP etc. are about 10 years out of date. When was the last time you saw a Win laptop that wasn't also a massive pile of junk? Most of it is bling, cheap plastic, indentations, grilles, etc. haphazardly slapped together with poor build quality. You have to wonder who designs this crap.
Even something like the Voodoo/HP Envy looks slightly tacky (and that's the best of the lot). PC = fail. :)
