Excuse me! Someone know what's the piece that Jackie young plays on the cello, when she is with her cello teacher? Sorry, but my english isn't so good! I hope you understand my question! thanks
@BrokenBook Oh gosh I know what you mean, it annoys me so much, and I'm a cellist so all I can think of is how DREADFUL the actor who plays William Pleeth's entire cello setup and technique is! The only person you can tell can actually play the cello is the second actress playing Jackie, i.e. the one in the pink cardigan, who is playing when we first see Pleeth, SHE has quite good cello technique!
Shabby! Come on guys, she's funny! She's a bit mad and she rages BUT she has morals and always tries to protect people who are being bullied (like Sunshine after the crisps and Rachael when John James picked on her). She's kinder and more genuine than most of them. She'd probably be more easy going without ciomhe!
there's so many things about this that are inaccurate/wrong! firstly jackie didn't have long hair until she was in her late teens, she always had short hair whilst in her youth! secondly the A string started unwinding during a Handel sonata in her wigmore recital, not the Franck sonata! i could go on, but shan't =]
@TheTradge short hair? SHORT HAIR! my god that is so incredibly vital to the story of Jaqueline Dupre that I simply cannot watch on! natuarally the majority of headlines about her were about her fabulously mod bob, the cello was purely incidental...
But she was not DOING that. She had no strings depressed at any time during that note, and was simply shaking her hand above the fingerboard. Which seems to indicate that it's bloody obvious she wasn't actually playing.
i saw the movie a couple hours ago, and it starts at the part when she is old and with the blue jersey. So, at least at the edition i saw it is a delete scene.
@Cookielumps UGGGGGGGGGGG I can tell why this scene was deleted. Their "air cello" skills are atrocious!!! When the notes go up, their hands move down! These guys are all over the place. Really turned me off to watching the movie. I can't stand bad instrument acting.
lol! and look, in 2:28! omg! the bow is in de C string his fingers are in the A string lol, and its sounds like a D string. The hand position moves very... ejem! bad!! :P jajaja lol!
I really believe this movie had bad qualities and good. I do not like how they depicted her leaving her cello outside in the snow. I do not feel she would have done that. But this scene really should have been left it because it shows her slowly becoming isolated from her family and only connected to the musical world.
Remember that part of the scene where she was checed into her hotel room and she was alone. They sound of her strings breaking off drove her totally insane. I think she must've already been losing her mind even then.
I agree, it does show her as a brat, but the entire movie did a pretty good job of that as a whole, so I'm not sure what deleting this scene changed. I watched it just now out of curiosity, and it just sparked that annoyance I felt when I saw this movie for the first (and last) time. I adore Emily Watson as an actress, but I have way too much respect for Jacqueline du Pre to give any credit to this movie whatsoever.
if you mean things like how they refuse to keep their left elbow up when fingering then yes i definitely know what you mean and the bowing arm too its like let's have our arms as close to our body as possible. its soo awkward looking kindna like a chicken trying to fly lol
i agree that it shows her isolation, but it does also show her as a brat which is probably why it was deleted. However, from what I understand the book showed Jackie as a brat as well.
it grossly miscontrues jackie as an inconsiderate brat. of course it should be taken out. in fact, the whole movie is bent on making hilary out to be the victim and jackie as the self-centred genius. pooh!
I agree, but I think the scene shows how she became so isolated, each family member becomes obsolete in the world of her music (that's assuming that the film is an accurate portrayal of her life,
this is movie is a shame for jacqueline du pre, it really is!!!

Please don't tell me that the "Jackie" actress is supposed to be Jacqueline du Pré.
What a stark contrast from the real soul I've seen on documentaries and clips : ( This seems like such a bad movie

being a musician sort of ruins these scenes because you know very well that the sound here does not match what the actors are doing at all lol

I never you could do vibrato while playing an open string!
I hate actors who pretend to play instruments that badly. It's annoying as hell!
C0urante 2 years ago
Acutaly you can you just have to shake your hand like your usually do vibrato just not on the string :) i do it all the time
ludocresh5 2 years ago
Yes you can. You can play the same note on the adjacent string and it will vibrate.
fayewolfie 2 years ago

Dude, if you played the cello or any string instrument, you know it's not easy, do you really expect her to play?
fayewolfie 2 years ago
I never said I did. I was only commenting on how annoying it was for actors to imitate it so horridly.

The way that actor who plays William Pleeth is holding his cello is just scary. D:
And it must be awfully hard to sound lovely with your blonde locks all over the fingerboard.

it did, they were wrong in the movie. I still don't remember which one though. I think it was the sonata in G minor.
