@ktreisch08 The top is, yes - Ambrosia maple to be specific. The neck and back are Spanish cedar (which is really a misnomer, since it's a type of mahogany and isn't Spanish or cedar!).
@wldntknow I assume you're referring to the noise? That's because Doug's spraying in a commercial spray booth with a HUGE fume extraction system! The honeycombed wall behind him is actually one huge air filter with what amounts to a bunch of fans on the other side pulling the air through. The roaring sound (which is pretty damn loud) is the fans. The booth Kauer Guitars usually uses is much smaller - this one belongs to another shop, and is easily large enough to drive a truck into.
@BluesmanDave PLEASE REPLY TO THIS.... if i wanted to paint a chip in the guitar paint (you can see the wood) lets say its black do i get plain black or black with gloss AND I MEAN LIKE THE PLAIN BLACK WOODSTAIN OR THE BLACK AND GLOSS WOODSTAIN and the lacquer is added last but wouldn't the paint just peel off sooner or later? also what if i added primer after i let the lacquer dry for a while or should i just not use primer
@SvddenDeth The short answer is that there's no way to repair a chip like you're describing with nothing but paint or rattlecans from Wal*Mart. You need some pretty specialized equipment and knowledge to do it in a way that won't be immediately noticeable. If you're interested in learning how to repair or refinish a guitar, I highly recommend the ReRanch website and forum. You can get supplies and a LOT of expertise from the forum members. Hope this helps - good luck!
hey i just painted my guitar solid white (nitrocellulose laquer). im thinking of doing some hand painting on top. what kind of paint do i need so that it sticks on the nitro? i havent done clear coats yet. thanks!
@justjoe032 Hi Joe, thanks for the question! One of the best places to find answers to questions about all things guitar-finish related (ESPECIALLY nitro questions) is the ReRanch message board. Doug and I are both members. If you head over to "reranch . com / reranch" (remove the spaces) and post your question, there are a lot REALLY knowledgeable and helpful folks willing to share their expertise.
@Udonitron Nope, it's actually wormy maple. It's a different look, but it's very cool and unique wood. Check out Doug's website for more examples - they're phenomenal guitars!
Is that a left-handed guitar?

@warchild1976 There is a clear coat sprayed on after the sunburst, but the sunburst is allowed to dry first.

The wood is Spalted Maple from the looks of it...with a little bit of curled flame at the bottom.
