whether Apophis is currently on a collision course with us or not, speed is not an issue. all we have to do is give it a tiny nudge to knock it off course a few years in advance.

The current fastest chemical rocket speed is 41K mph. A trajectory around Jupiter would increase that speed to 47K mph - still 2K mph too slow to hit Apophis. Also, there is no GPS tracking in space of rockets or asteroids. A best guess would need to be used based on available data. However - should data show a 100% probability of impact - there is time to develop the technology required.
