  • I can watch this swing over and over.

  • @bcozigothigh YOU fUCKING bogan, racist piece of shit, your uneducated and if you think everyone from a developing country is dumb your wrong, don't comment shit you southern red neck piece of shit

  • I love the guy, but why does he sound like he's just run a marathon?

  • thumb up if you have been watching this video over and over again!

  • @epicguo asking for thumbs up shouldnt give you thumbs up, but to answer your question: Yes, I did watch this video over and over ;)

  • Big easy!!

  • What a swing! He should have won more majors.

  • Something about prawns?

  • aome golfer, nob in real life

  • haha funny ernie because you stand up at impact

  • no one els

  • Give it a lash...

  • when i keep that angleeeeeeeeee i get asssssssssss

  • ernie is the man!

  • you must keep the boox

  • I wonder who likes box more, tiger or ernie?

  • and els no response haha

  • @kaymerfan5 haha, self esteem issue

  • who dat in da orange t-shirt in the backround

  • thats probably one of the greatest tips.

  • @supeone i like his box

  • @Vicmarvaldes i lowered mine from 0 to +9 and im only 2!

  • Trying to generate backspin

but the ball keeps stoping on the second bounce.

  • I'm trying to learn to keep the same angle and not lose that box, its hard for me for some reason. Also, I am working on turning my hips earlier because my hips turn after I make contact with the ball. If anyone has any tips I would appreciate it.

  • easy back keep the box and off you go. simple!

  • Guys you know, Ernie else doesn't aim for the "200" sign, He aims for the middle "0"

    :)

  • @SphexPanda i think youre right! i watched him on the range at the open hitting knock down 3 irons into a headwind straight at the 200 board.

  • Cumguzzlar you are quite correct. Just unboxed me john wayne memorial cukoo clock this morning. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is the single most skillfully handrafted, beautiful piece of shitty plastic wank. I had to knead myself off when the posty came, bloody marvellous!

  • Nice, anyway....i must tell you about this mongol at work, he's got an account wi the bradford exchange, just got the john wayne cuckoo clock today, very nice, also got the spirit of derby town centre signet ring, he now has 2 for each finger to show off his wealth, he rekonz he's fuckin nails, i rekonz he's a fat cunt, but that's merely my personal opinion.

  • His swing is gold!

  • @silowhore I did laugh when u said poor bastard. Funny.

  • @silowhore no one really gives a shit about any wins except the majors. Even the players will say that. British Open once, us open twice. With his perfect swing I'd hoped and thought it was a given he'd win more. He would trade every other tournament he's every won for the amount of majors that tiger has. I hate that bastard BTW.

  • Keeeeep de bohx!

  • epic effortless god

  • The perfect swing and my favourite player but a perfect swing has won him relatively fuck all. Crazy.

  • @myeire yeah, 40,000,000 in prize money, 15th highest earner in golf of all time.......poor bastard

  • @myeire oh, that's just the pga tour earnings, don't forget 7th all time winningest player on the european tour for an additional 25,000,000 euros

  • best tip on youtube from Mr Big Easy

  • fucken A thats pure!!!

  • i would split that swing like an old piece of firewood. i need new shorts

  • that strike sounds so pure

  • @CameronStewart I haven't failed in any way buddy, you're the one that came on here and took it upon yourself to spurt out lines of troll talk. Bearing in mind you actually started this whole conflict by making a silly 'No shit' comment when a simple 'yes, you're right' would have been suffice.

You're the one who has failed to be civilised, not me.

  • @CameronStewart Yeah ok and yardage markers positively identify the course....pmsl! For your information I'm at the course 6 times a year so don't try and tell me I don't know the place. 5 times during the summer and once in October. You might actually want to play the course like I have before calling moron.

    Poor Show.

  • @CameronStewart

No shit? It could have been any links range because at no point is there any mention of the location. Don't try and troll me either because I know the course very well...

  • "Keep teh boox."

  • ELS IS A BEAST!!!!!

  • I'm convinced that's the range at Loch Lomond.

  • nicklessss tiiiigerrrrrrrrrr

  • Everyone who hits a golf ball puts backspin on it so that it climbs up into the air. The more swingspeed that is generated equates to a larger backspin rate. It is a form of Bernoullis theory of pressure differences between the top and bottom of the ball that makes the ball fly.

  • Yeh Ernie, "and Els..." what do think?

    For sure!

All time swing, the sound of that iron...so pure.

  • HAHAHA KEEP THE BOX , keep em' coming , class kid..

  • Love Ernie!! Thanks for the tip buddy! I want to hit like you!!

  • What a swing, simply awesome!!!!!

  • how can he make it look so easy??

the sound is so incredible so much speed!

  • hey maybe sum of u guys mite b able 2 ansa dis, how can he possibly get enough spin on his shortgame shots into greens wit such a slow and simple swing, it dusnt seem doable, ive been tryin 4 months 2 backspin or at least bite wit d same rythm swing as him, and i jst cant!!!

  • @Rugbyman2468 just hit the ball first and no grass at all, it sorta feels like a blade but you put some spin to stop it on a dime, once you get the hold of it, you can put more spin on it.

  • @Rugbyman2468 I asked that exact same question, and it's down to a few things. First of all they're chipping off fairways that are cut as tight as the greens on normal courses (this helps nip the ball off the turf), secondly, although it looks like an easy swing, his hands are actually moving very fast through impact, and this generates more spin, and lastly, they're using practically brand new wedges every tournament, which keeps the grooves sharp. But the hands make the most difference

  • @Rugbyman2468 anybody, and really anybody, can put bite/spin on the ball as long as they make ball first contact with the center of the clubface as long as the grooves are clean. clean your clubs and let them do the work, and really get that ball coming off the center of the face. it does not matter one bit how much you "hit down" on the ball, contrary to popular belief. apples to apples, considering the same club, speed and ball position of the strike, the ball will always spin the same.

  • Very good and simple tip for you all.

Remember try to keep the swing simple.

  • Probably the most beautiful swing ever!!! Ernie is sick

  • Comment removed

  • i don't know why he doesn't win more tournaments. one of the most purest swings ever.

  • Simple and Brilliant !!!

  • damn look at how thin that blade is

  • @theusedish Callaway X-Prototypes baby. Sweet clubs.

  • @ipsilont7 2009 x forged actually. but also beuty clubs

  • nice view of the ball when he swings second time. Excellent camera work. not.

  • He and Freddie Couples have 2 of the most fluid swings around!!

  • agree with you 100% class player's and 2 nice guys

  • Unbelievable tempo. That is one sweet swing

  • One of the greatest of all time.. Els is the MAN

  • easy for him to say

  • The holding of the box is the best swing tip I have come across lately that is an easy thing to keep in mind on the range. It will definitely help prevent that weak blocked shot to the right more often. Great stuff!

  • "give it a lash" what an absolute champion. My favourite player ever....even if he did defect to callaway.

  • best swing ever seen

  • ernie else is the man

  • the cameraman sucks

  • does he make it look easy or what

  • What an absolute legend. Such a gentle nice guy

  • @theunisbotha : Couldn't be said any better. Best person in golf.

  • how do you keep that angle on the downswing?

  • @1005pker watch his swing vision...thats what i just did to understand it! lol

  • @shawnwave You are absolutely correct. I will never forget the duel they had in Hawaii as well as at the Presidents Cup. It would be great to see them go at it again. Those duels were really fun to watch.

  • @PapaBearGolf i cant recall the hawaii one but the presidents cup one was classic!....tiger was dictating the terms but ernie followed well! He holed a solid putt at the last hole before they called it equal.

  • @shawnwave If you get a chance to see the playoff between the two of them that happened in Hawaii, watch it. I can't recall the year off the top of my head but it was also classic. Tiger ended up making about a 30 to 40 footer. Ernie had a putt just a little shorter which he made a very good run at that just didn't go in. It was not quite as good as the Presidents Cup but still a great battle. Really fun to watch.

  • Ernie is a fantastic talent in golf. I wish his run challenging Tiger had lasted longer. I think you have to be careful with what he says here though. His point of maintaining your spine angle is correct & most amateur players struggle with that. I think you need to be careful with trying to lag the club. Most players should try to let their arms swing more. An increase in lag can led to flippy hands at the bottom & very inconsistent strikes. Visit my channel at PapaBearGolf & leave a comment.

  • @PapaBearGolf... i beg to differ good sir. when increasing lag, a ball can only be properly struck by steady hands and a flat left wrist with the club on the right plane. these three things must happen otherwise you will either pull it left, hit it on the heel, or hit it fat. he's showing how to make a proper golf swing, not a crappy incorrect swing aided by technology to make bad golfers feel better about themselves.

  • senorchipotle

If you have a lot of talent and practice a lot then trying to increase your lag may be something to work on if you want more distance. However I would disagree with you when you are talking about the avg. player who works for a living & plays mostly on the weekend & may get to practice once during the week. That player is better served releasing the club as soon as possible. That is whom the comment was intended. You have to think of the avg. player here.

  • respectfully, i contend that all golfers aspire to strike a crisp iron, no matter what the skill level. that requires us to make a divot just after the ball is struck. so, while that may not require as much lag as ern is demonstrating, it does require the hands to be leading the head at impact, which in turn requires some amount of lag. practicing bad habits for an hour still takes an hour. why not use that hour practicing properly?

  • Also respectfully

I have been a member of the PGA of America for over 15 years & have been teaching before I became a member. I have given well over 1000 lessons working with a wide variety of skill levels. I have worked standing right next to the likes of Jim Flick for 9 years & studied Jim Hardy very closely. Both of these guys have taught many tour pros & I can tell you for a fact neither of them would work on this with an avg. player. Only with an accomplished player. That is the point.

  • @PapaBearGolf Hi, appreciate your ref to your channel but Ernie is correct in his video and some of us less accomplished players would like to keep the angle. I'm into my 70's and still want to improve over my mates, keeping the angle is my next objective. Any real golfer wants to progress. Please don't write the average player off. I would agree that If the player is not physically and mentally up to this move than it would be silly to coach but to give up on them before trying is not right.

  • 11CarlisleGC. I never said Ernie was not correct to work on this for himself. If you really listen to what he is saying, he is telling you that is what he is working on for himself & not saying it is something for all skill levels to work on. As a long time golf professional I can assure you most players with handicaps above 10 have things they need to improve 1st. Trying to maintain the angle can lead to flippy hands & non-solid strikes. Non-solid strikes are where most players lose distance.

  • u re gonna get what u wished for! hes back to challenge tiger..lol

  • @shawnwave I hope your right. It would be great to see him stay at the top for a long time. Have always been a fan of Ernie's. His personal life story is inspiring. I think he is a player who can really challenge Tiger even when Tiger is playing well. If he can keep things going and I think he can now that his son is getting better care. He will make Tiger have to play at the top of his game if he wants to beat Ernie. That would be fantastic for the game.

  • @PapaBearGolf it would be great to see both of them go head to head on their best day! ernie with his cool temperament will be hard to shake.....having said that its not gonna be that easy for the big easy! lol

  • Hahaha. Off you go. Simple as that. . . sure, if it were that easy. Gotta love Ernie. Love the swing.

  • give it a lash...and off you go!

  • Greatest swing ever.

  • love ernie, such a class guy. been my fav golfer since i was a kid. i hope he can get his master's and pga championship victories to complete the grand slam.

  • my golf instructor says i actually have to much lag, because ive been hitting my shots low lately

  • That is my point. I dont wat to reed comments about Tiger in a Ernie video. Tiger comments, please in Tiger´s videos.

  • TIGER?.. NOT A CHAMP.. A CHUMP!!

We all paid for his getting laid by paying higher prices for the products he endorsed.

  • that is funny.. is he saying all those great players are in the shot?? what does that mean..

  • great video, great lesson, love the last comment from the person behind the camera and Els reaction. What a fantastic player and character.

  • "give it a LASH". Awesome hahaha. I love Ernie

  • wow that looks easy - Big easy

  • someones using a saucepan in the background...lol bacon an egg anyone?

  • @Hewster78 who's using a saucepan? wtf r u talking about

  • god he looked so tall/upright at address.

  • Nice one Ernie !!!! Very good info

  • Very nice !!

  • This tip is so good i am hitting my irons so much more purely now!!!

  • Yes. One of Ernie's intermitent faults over the years has been to get a little loose at the top and throw a little from the top. This is because he's so flexible, and probably doesn't realise he's doing it until it becomes a problem. The swingthought is a counter to this like you say, (so beware reading too much into it if you don't have the same problem, you'll go too far the other way!)

  • Love Ernie, but in fact he doesn't do this in his full swings, nor could any good player. That angle has to open up and release or you've got a total hang-on move, which is the exact opposite of a good Els swing.

It may be that the _sensation_ of doing this helps him in some way.

  • Dead right, if I tried that i'd block everything. The club releases from the top and extends through the impact area. Ernie is describing what he is feeling in this session, whats keeping him on track at the moment. The laws of physics govern the reality!

  • You got it.

I really think he's reacting to a move that wormed its way into his swing about three years ago, maybe four--that little bounce at the top where the angle starts to open before he comes down. You may know what I'm talking about--if not, I'll find a vid on YT to show it. This "tip" here is exactly the kind of thing he'd need to counter that.

  • I don't see, after looking at this swing, how anyone could say it isn't a top 5 swing of all time? Please explain why it isn't?

don't confuse the question with results and many other variables to winning?

  • definitely a top 5 swinger. wonderful tip as well.

the only slight complaint i have with his swing is his right forearm being almost parallel to the ground - while tiger's is almost vertical.

this results in ernie's hands being slightly closer to the ball at impact than address.

tiger's hands are almost in the same position at impact and address - this is because he doesnt bend his right elbow at impact.

  • parallel to the ground where?

  • at impact (check an ernie els swing vision) - the right forearm should be in the same line as the club - almost perpendicular to the ground.

ernie doesnt do this. he instead pushes the ball with his wrist...creating too much dependency on speed from the wrist - resulting in inconsistency

  • On the DTL view, or from face-on?

  • down the line.

  • Hmm. I'm not sure I'm following. Correct me if I'm wrong: I think you're saying that the angle between arms and shaft that is visible at address on a DTL view of a good player is all but gone with Ernie at impact--that is, that this angle has straightened. But then, when you say his forearm is "almost parallel to the ground," I can't get a fix on what that means. What am I wrong about so far?

  • ok, in a nutshell -

    1. right arm at address should be roughy = right arm at impact (eg. tiger)

    2. problem: ernie's right forearm at impact is not equal to the address position. the right arm forms a 45 degree angle at the elbow - too much bend. see how tiger's right arm at impact hangs almost vertically down - exactly the same as at address.

lesson: right arm at impact = right arm at address.

Btw, im a scrtch player, frm singapore hopin to turn pro nxt yr.

  • @mysteryisgod... no it doesn't. all great ballstrikers, or even decent ones for that matter, have a bent elbow at impact. yes, even tiger. it's the only way to ensure a square clubface. if your arm is straight at impact your clubface is closed, unless you have a weaker than neutral grip and you get flippy with your hands. if you want to be a pro, you're going to have to do better than scratch.

  • Not quite. The reason the right arm cannot be straight at impact as at address, is because once you start swinging down the right elbow is pulled to touching the right hip as the swing arc narrows. Just like the best ball striker of all times, Ben Hogan, said 'the downswing arc is narrower than the backswing arc'. Tiger's right arm is almost equally straight at impact as at address b/c his right elbow is in front of the hip, as opposed to touching it such as Ernie and the majority of players.

  • Continued

Tiger can keep his right elbow pointing in front of his right hip because his lower body and hips rotate so efficiently. This is one of the bigger differences in his swing compared to Hogan's. Keeping the right elbow touching the right hip on the downswing promotes the body to rotate the blade square. This is much more reliable for the majority of golfers since it takes the wrists out of play. All the best with becoming a pro, hope you make it. Tour pro or teaching pro?

  • asian tour pro hopefully.

i agree tiger is one of the few who can do it, probably due to his muscles and low body fat.

  • Sorry but, f@ck Tiger.

  • Why, what did he do to u?

  • I am watching a video of Ernie Els, and under it the first word I read on a coment is "Tiger can....." Is there not enough Tiger videos in youtube, for you to leave your opinions there? Here let´s talk about Ernie's tip. And Ernie's approach. Thank you.

Bottom line is: I don´t care about Tiger, Tiger fans and enthusiastics stick to Tiger videos and sites. (And I don´t particularly dislike Tiger)

  • I can understand your point, it is rather ironic that there actually are so many Tiger comments on Ernie Els videos.

  • Nice, then is all good.
