  • It is the *luxury* of AIKIDO that the attacker may sometimes be defused but left unharmed. But there isn't any ethical-logical "prime directive" of this kind, this would be complete stupidity and incompatible with BUDO. War involves the truth, naked brutal and violent. Look for the dojo where their warm-up lasts at least 25 minutes and nearly kills you at first!

  • It's foolish to think "techniques work" or don't work in real situations. There're no techniques for that. They are like templates. You improvise instantly, relying on intuition gained by good practice, and either win or suffer the consequences.

  • Exciting demo! AIKIDO is BUDO - that means, war; an ingeniously aestheticized way of killing. I've trained at an aikido dojo for 7 years. When you attack an AIKIDOKA in earnest, it feels like attacking empty space. Everything is instantaneous, and you suddenly fold, are hit, or broken completely. That is the great beauty of this art.

  • The point of aikido is not to harm yourself or your attacker. This is more like ninjitsu.

  • they are hurting the attacker when he does not need to be hurt for the technique (joint lock/takedown) to work, so hence, it may be real but NOT aikido.

  • what a joke. "real" aikido. Well, it's "real" fake and "really" would never work against an attacker that you didn't get together with beforehand and tell him exactly what to do.

  • estimado amigo descreido...si no sabes de lo que hablas no hables... evidentemente nunca practicaste ningun arte marcial y mucho menos nada parecido al Aikido. Por lo tano te aliento a quye no emitas opinion alguna sobre algo que ignoras

  • This is so beter than japan aikido.

  • This is as choreographed an aikido demo as any other one I've seen. Just because the defender slams his attacker harder doesn't make it less rehearsed or more "real". It seems real aikido in this instance doesn't mean better, just rougher.

  • ne aikidosu lan...judo jujitsuya falan benziyor..

  • MrMonokel,

Some people are interested in protecting themselves and not culture or spiritual aikido. Let's be real about certain aspects of self defence. Plus this is not a healthy attitude for those whole like to mix the arts. The greatest martial arts legend, Bruce Lee always warned about closed minded individuals.

  • yeah....its not really traditional aikido, it looks more like punshing someones face instead of anything else. this is bullshit, not aikido!

  • this is aikijutsu...the predecessor to aikido

  • Aikido can take many forms or styles and does not need to be pigeon-hold to spiritual, cultural aspects. If culture and spiritual aikido is what you want to promote, that's fine. But for those who want to learn how to defend themselves and use other techniques in combination, let it be. Who cares if the techniques are completely traditional or if the culture part is right when a lunatic is attacking you with full force. The question is, are you alive at the end.

  • I am absolutely agree !!!!!

  • looks more like ju jitsu (ya-waryu) to me!?.

  • But what is this shit? This is not aikido. No doubt about it!!Have you seen osensei videos? There is no respect in this demonstration. First of all they are breaking lots of ettiquete aikido rules. Second, if you want to deffend yourself and hurt people, you can buy a gun, but don't spent 30 years of your life training the most difficult martial art "in case" some remote day you would need it. We are not in the samurai era anymore.

  • Yes we are not in samurai era but it's seems to me that you are! And according to your coment about weapon like gun, maybe you had to suggest to buy a bomb its workks better! Hehehehe.....

  • Great demostration. Good aiki. Aikido IS a martial art.

  • Dude I practice Aikido. And you are totally right. The problem with "official" aikido is that it has become a choreography, and they really don't understand what O'Sensei wanted to teac.

  • Let O'Sensei Ueshiba to rest in peace! He was founder but it doesn't mean that his rules are unchangeable for ever!!!

Time has changed and you need to follow that in every aspects of your life. That's means for martial arts too.

  • I agree with you, we must evolve the art, if we are real artists then we should perfect our art, be better than our ancestor. But Aikikai as it is now is an involution. Not even a regression because that would be aikijitsu. And sadly money ambition is one of the causes.

  • stop the Peace BS, face it, if you wann it to work in the street you have to make it real. adapat your aikido to real situations. Choreography dancing is not a martial art.

  • bullshit, Aikido is about peace, not aggression

  • Nonsense. If aikido were ENTIRELY about peace, then it wouldn't contain fighting maneuvers at all. It, like martial arts in general, is about the appropriate use of force. And I've got to believe that when someone's coming after you with a knife, it's an appropriate use of force.

  • Of course..hehehe... that's why Aikido made: not to hurt attackers. Instead that kisss them! hehehehe....
