The composer says he is Agnostic about whether we have a heavenly, loving Creator.
But his music and words seem to convey some deep mystery that convey that maybe it is both true, - but also utimately uncomprehensible to the human spirit.
It is so refreshing to hear high quality singing from a group of young people. To the choral conductor... I tip my hat to you for bringing out the bright and light tonal quality of your choir. They sound better than many full professional choirs. Gorgeous rendition if Rutter's gorgeous work! Thank you and God bless!
Dear Clewsmonkey, Sometimes the soul needs to soar, sometime it needs to rest and some of the time it simply wants to enjoy its being. You are clueless as to where this music has its place,
What utter tosh. Whenever I sing this rubbish or anything by Rutter in my choir, a bit of me dies inside, it's just so cheesy and sickly, it just baffles me that people want to listen to this rather than far superior choral composers who learnt their skill from the great classical tradition rather than Elton John!
Everytime I hear this piece, I reflect back to my time in high school choir and just cry. It is such a beautiful piece and so reflective. Thank you for posting this.
this has got to be my favourite piece of music we ever learned when I was in the North Ayrshire Schools Choir (I sang soprano 1 but I'm no longer in a choir)
Despite composing and conducting much religious music, Rutter told the US television program 60 Minutes in 2003 that he was not particularly a religious man, but he is inspired by the spirituality of sacred verses and prayers.[1] The program, airing a week before Christmas 2003, focused on Rutter's popularity with choral groups all over the world, and on his composition, Mass of the Children, composed after the sudden, tragic death of his son Christopher, a student.
I like it very much I'm singing in chorus is very very nice and quiet

considering the fact that rutter is not a religious person, he writes very good religious music
