huh, this was back from when enemies actually attacked the player in We Dream You? Interesting to see how things have changed. Rubicon X is such a huge game, I haven't even finished my first playthrough yet but I love it :D
Apart from the Original games, I'd say that this 3rd party remake had the best flow and storyline depth. The Ascension theme alone gave me the creeps.
M:R is probably the closest you could possibly get to an "M4". TI is good too but it works better as a Marathon side story. RX is worth playing for the Tycho Plank alone, which was incredibly fun.
Now, if you want a truly *messed up* ending, play Marathon Eternal. It's an awesome scenario with a truly epic scope but the plot is simply all over the place.
@Ilikelimpbizkit (while definitely a bit late to reply ...) M 8 was about fixing the timeline of the universe so the events in the first level did not happen. The creature Durandal mentions will destroy the entire universe by ripping it apart by the fabric of reality. At the first level, the creature has been released and the universe is doomed. The player jumps through various timelines and realities in order to prevent the creature from being released in the first place.
The music is from "Cowgirl" by Underworld. The band actually emailed us after we posted the video and asked if we could toss them in the credits. Who knew Underworld were marathon fans?
Took me about a month to get through this when it first came out. Did it more recently under Aleph One (they added extra material) and it's a bit more difficult.
I felt sure it was after the trilogy, the first time I played it.
The Rubicon X version (AlephOne) confirms its place in the storyline with the first level whose map is titled "It Begins With An Ending". I, myself have not beaten Infinity (Marathon 3), but can say that I never saw this level in the original Rubicon (Which you start @ "Rozinante I"); After playing through it though, it appeared Rubicon "borrowed" the environment (and story) from Infinity, as the locale is seen in later levels.
Mmm...they're both excellent scenarios, but IMO Rubicon was a lot more cooherent in terms of its story. Plus the maps are spectacular and the artwork on the chapter screens and terminals is amazing...
Yeah, actually, I just got annoyed because I got stuck in some sort of air venthilation system.
But if you want to talk about HARD, just play the grey incident. Still, i like the sort of way that tempus is a little easier (and no, to you who think marathon is too old, im not stuck in the past. In fact, I actually have all 3 halos, and bioshock.)
Woah! Really good for a fan-made trailer!

A Marathon game I've never heard of?
Now I've got a good reason to stay inside these 4 walls for couple of weeks. :')

Halo doesn't count. They're only similar in theme. :/

Halo has nothing to do with Marathon. Marathon was better for a start.

Fantastic game.
Btw, Rubicon takes place between Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity, people.

Rubicon I thought was well done, especially RX, and quite easy to beat, but not too easy.
To bad noone plays it on the net, I like the net maps they did, as well as the new weapons

In 'it begins with an ending', do you know where the crack in the rocks is where you have to jump down is. I'm stuck.
