To all those saying they can't get it to work, the reason is simple: in May this functionality was disabled because there were some problems with Google Gears. They say they're working on getting this back, so all we have to do is sit tight and keep our fingers crossed... :)

yeah google docs will work with html5; google already has the trend of writing their apps in html5, and they've announced that the Gears technology will be phased out as the net relies more on html5.

You need to have Google Gears plugin installed on the respective browser that you use. Here's the requirements for Windows:

I, too, like the MS Office suite of programs, but one of the reasons I liked it was what I call 'universality' since my 1st purchase of Office 97. Google-Docs might even be better in that (currently) it is free which makes it a little bit more universal.
