@LordKevin92 please explain diesel to me we in europe have never seen one, btw torque is important but so is hp, so if NA market likes powerful engines why not give them one
@posro1988 first of all, diesel engine uses diesel fuel. we both know that :P Diesel engines tend to have more torque because they have a longer stroke, and some other reasons i dont remember right now. The torque is "pulling power" or the power needed to carry the car's weight, so that means: more torque = faster acceleration. Horsepower is "speed power" it determines the car's top speed. Many people wont reach 200mph in a regular car so it doesnt matter as much as torque.
@posro1988 and NA do get vehicles with lots of hp, its just that this particular VW has this option of diesel engine. sad thing is here in america(north and latin) we got speed limits that are pitiful. in my country the highest speed possible in the hwy is 100km/h or 60mph. so.. probably the drivers wont use the full power of their cars :/ i wish i could live in germany, a friend who lives in Stuttgart told me there is no speed limit in the autobahn :D lol
Thanks for the review... would love to have the "US-Passat" in Germany as well... it's bigger than the normal European Passat.... but some people claim it would be too big for roads in the city for example -.- I can't understand them .... If they can't handle a bigger car, they simply should buy a smaller one -.-
I love this new VW Passat! The front headlights remind me of the 08-12 Honda Accord headlights.
Also I think it's cool how Volkswagen gives u the choice of push button start and also manually starting the car with an actual key. Most of these auto companies doesn't give u that option.
For example, a 2010 Nissan Altima only has the push button. Is there a way to manually start the car if it were to stop working??? Does anybody know?
It's got a nicely finished and roomy interior and very nice convenience features such as smart key access with remote engine start, electric trunk lid opening, fully automatic electric windows and dual zone climate control. It's got a good safety rating as well and the choice of a diesel, instead of an useless hybrid version. I really like it. The Passat may not be the most reliable midsize car, but sure is the nicest.
I'm really impressed as an european how the Americans accepted to "downsize" their lifestyle importing diesel cars, thinking for e.g. at the Fiat 500 1.3 mJet... Starting think about consumption and so on... Quiet impressive... Btw was a great review... Great job! Greetings from Italy
Thanks for the vid. I've been looking at a few cars to buy and used your videos when I couldn't compare side by side at the dealers. This vid here helped me make my decision on the passat tdi. Ordered it today. Thanks for the excellent work.
Thanks for showing. Passat has absolutely been improved. And the 800mile range, is nowadays priceless. I wish I had the money; I'd buy that car in a heartbeat.
I love this car but a few gripes. Where are the HID options, park distance control, and a feature they have here in Japan on the Passat Variant the auto start-stop feature. Thats what I call options and at todays conversion rates its only $1189 more than the US SEL TDI plus its a wagon??? Not to mention that TDI in the video is the states TDI everywhere else gets a sportier TDI engine with more hp and torque without sacrificing mileage just saying...
Excellent review. This is a great car packed with too many features. I need to get one. Like one reviewer mentioned, I was wondering about how to find diesel gas stations since not all gas stations carry diesel fuel. I saw another video about the passat navigation where there is an option to search for diesel gas stations. If so, then it is wonderful.
@copperfieldbeagle Great question. I think the answer to your question is, you'll find them stations, now that more and more diesel stations are popping up around it will be even easier to find a stations in the very near figure.
I am extremely impressed with this redesign. The diesel is ultra quiet and ultra fuel efficient. Very nice interior and the Fender audio system is really impressive. All new cars should come with HD radio like VW. I can't wait to go and test drive one of these.
@mikerules666 Just came home with it. So far it is really pleasant to drive. You feel like your driving a car double or triple the price. No squeaks or rattles and the Diesel engine is more than powerful enough. The DSG transmission shifts super fast and is always in the right gear when you need power. So far it's amazing and I highly recommend it.
How's the reliability? I want my dad to buy this car but he wants a reliable car. He had an accident recently (totaled his car) and doesn't want to spend too much on a car, but wants good mileage (mpg). I really don't want another Prius.
@applesmnch2 Is that sloshing sound you are talking about coming from the gas tank? They are supposed to put an anti-slosh divider in the tank. Hmmm....if so, then maybe it's in the wrong place. I'll have to do more research.
Hey, your video has good content, but I am not sure I totally agree with it... I guess that is why everyone has a channel and opinion right? Either way I like the content and the presentation. I picked up a few ideas from this video so thank you for posting. May I ask, how you go about determining what to make video content about? Are you looking for trending topics or are you just making content around what you think people should be consuming online? I am trying to figure out my process...
@luisinhoens90 no offense but i don't see what's wrong with leather seats in a car. I've always preferred them. Their easier to clean, comfortable, and I also like that you don't have to add it as a thousand dollar option like say Porsche or BMW and any other German luxury/entry level luxury cars have.
I wanted to be offended that VW gave us our own Passat and even build it in the US, but I really like this damn thing. The new Jetta not so much...wish they would make a wagon version of the North American Passat. TDI makes my mouth water.
It's always irritated me how VW is insistent on forcing leather (both real AND fake) on customers that want a TDI in the Passat. Many would like cloth seats instead. They do the same thing on the Jetta.
Last I checked, only way to get cloth/TDI is to get the Golf.

@TheV12Diesel i know the old passat im from germany we have 100000 passats on street. and i say the old one looks so ugly , too big round lights. and no style. this passat has a face like the vw golf or polo.
audi, bmw they have the same. 1 charactaristic face each evry modell bmw 3 or 5 or 6 or 7 they have the
distinctively look.
VW s problem was tht VW didnt had a Face. Polo, Golf , Passat, Jetta that old cars looks all different.
Now they have a individuel face like 'Bmw Audi Mercedes.
I just realized, they got rid of the Passat wagon with the redesign! I wish wagons would make a comeback, but I suppose that competes some with the Routan minivan.
Diesel engines are great and they might be quieter than they were a few years ago but that motor still sounds like crap. It's nice you had to open the door in order to hear it. Also, does the media center seem a bit slow to respond to commands?
I really like this car it has a lot of class and great mpg. But what cheapens it for me is the fact that there is a PROP ROD for the hood, I can forgive that until I saw the back seat had No power outlets or vents for rear passengers. The lines and body of the car A+
@shauntanweibin I don't know if you've ever drove a diesel but in holland ( Europe ) 50 % of the cars are diesels. my driving school had a cheap diesel car too, and it easily got to 3 K rpm. BMW sport diesels do 4.5 or even 5 K rpm
I've said this before, and you should really read this Kyle. The sport mode doesn't give the appearance that the car is shifting like a manual. With a manual car, you can shift at any rpm range that you want. The sport mode does what it's called: makes the shifts more sporty - aka holds gears longer to accelerate faster, and downshift early so that there is no down shift lag when you want to accelerate.
@ddnn3 Well, that's definitely true for my Mazda 5, but I've been told that DSG is a lot closer to being able to mimic shifts at any RPM range. Can't say. Never had a DSG VW--only Tiptronic.
@ddnn3 you misinterpreted what I said, yes you're right but those are in fact the characteristics of a manual, more acceleration through the revs, better access to downshifting for fast acceleration, characteristics of a manual. That's exactly what I meant, I've driven cars with it before. guess I need to re phrase how I describe that lol
@ddnn3 I bet there is CVT in drive mode there is no gears and RPM goes to about 4x and accelerate smoothly, gearbox in sport mode has virtual gears where rpm and changing gears works like in manual.
I still don't get why US market doesn't get 2.0 170hp TDI?

@shauntanweibin I don't know if you've ever drove a diesel but in holland ( Europe ) 50 % of the cars are diesels. my driving school had a cheap diesel car too, and it easily got to 3 K rpm. BMW sport diesels do 4.5 or even 5 K rpm

@rickrossthebosz Really? Maybe its because its red line is till 5000 rpm, thats why it revs till 2500 rpm

Volkswagen got it right with their diesel technology. Too bad the public doesn't know all that much about it.

I love this larger version, especially since the Phaeton is gone. VW needs a big car available.

I've said this before, and you should really read this Kyle. The sport mode doesn't give the appearance that the car is shifting like a manual. With a manual car, you can shift at any rpm range that you want. The sport mode does what it's called: makes the shifts more sporty - aka holds gears longer to accelerate faster, and downshift early so that there is no down shift lag when you want to accelerate.
ddnn3 5 months ago 12
@ddnn3 Well, that's definitely true for my Mazda 5, but I've been told that DSG is a lot closer to being able to mimic shifts at any RPM range. Can't say. Never had a DSG VW--only Tiptronic.
bigvirgotube 5 months ago
@ddnn3 you misinterpreted what I said, yes you're right but those are in fact the characteristics of a manual, more acceleration through the revs, better access to downshifting for fast acceleration, characteristics of a manual. That's exactly what I meant, I've driven cars with it before. guess I need to re phrase how I describe that lol
saabkyle04 5 months ago 23
@ddnn3 I bet there is CVT in drive mode there is no gears and RPM goes to about 4x and accelerate smoothly, gearbox in sport mode has virtual gears where rpm and changing gears works like in manual.

In black could be mistaken for the $60,000 VW Phaeton.

Good to see Kyle's popularity has attracted the attention of so many dealers, that he is now doing a lot of new car reviews. Go Kyle!
