In the early 70's, I had the privilege of hearing/watching Calvin perform live many nights at the Tiki Lounge on Western Avenue in Los Angeles. I think the Tiki is long gone...closed many years ago. But I'm pleased to see Calvin is still making BEE-YOU-TEE-FUL music and going strong. Wail on brotha man, wail on!!!
This man is so brilliant. Can you compare him to the guitar greats of the past ? Like... ok, I don't want to sound stupid, every guitarist is unique but, well, I just found him on YouTube, never heard of him before and I wonder if he could successfully compete with... :)
Dear Calvin, Impresionante, genial, increíble!!!!! Realmente qué guitarrista que sos!!!! DE PRIMERRRRRRRRRRRRRA!!!! I know you understand Spanish but if you don't just let me tell you YOU ARE REALLY REALLY EXCELLENT!!!!!!!
A huge hug from Argentina and thanks for your music!
As josephmiller44 has mentioned, Calvin Jays is from Omaha. My hometown too. I've seen him live in Omaha in the Old Market district downtown back in the early 90's at the Howard Street Tavern. He is a great guitarist. Thanks for this clip!
Calvin used to jam with Larry Bell and the Soul Pack in Los Angeles...back in 1969.. Larry was Calvins cousin I think...also from Omaha... I was the Sax Player with that band and when Calvin would come in to jam the whole room would quiet down just to listen to Calvin... He'd play those great Wes Montgomery tunes... Bumpin on Sunset...and the like... what a great post...

Is Calvin playing a Heritage Golden Eagle or Super Eagle? I can't make out the name. It looks like a GE.

Pat Metheny has a tune on his Day Trip cd called Calvin's Keys, written in honor of him. If Pat writes a tune with you as it's namesake you can play!
