I agree. I liked how the english dub kept most of the original music in Kanto, Orange Islands, and Johto Journeys. When Johto League Champions came, the use of original BGM waxed and waned, and in Master Quest, it rapidly declined. Thankfully, the episodes with Ash vs Gary and Ash vs Harrison used a good amount of the original BGM, but that was probably the last time 4Kids used more than 10+ tracks. When Hoenn came, the maximum use of BGM was 3 or 4 consistently.

Don't the English Dub have the Original Japanese Soundtrack? Or do they make their own? Just asking because I never watched Pokemon in Japanese before.

@xxIchiron47xx In Season 1 (Kanto) they did AS WELL as adding a few tracks of their own. After that though they started using their own music instead of using the original Japanese Soundtrack.

That's a shame because not only do they still use this music in current episodes, but there is orchestrated music of later Pokemon games that we will never hear because the dubbing companies now replace MOST of the original Japanese Soundtrack with their own little tunes that they make.

It completely changed the tension of some scenes, especially when silence that was used to build tension was replaced with music.

@TheRealBlueFlame They said they replaced it with music they thought American kids could "relate to better", but that's a load of crap, they don't have the rights to all of the Japanese music. Or at least they didn't until Best Wishes. They're using most, if not all of the new stuff in the new episodes.

And I agree about the dub music ruining the mood of a lot of scenes. I've never seen the original Misty's Goodbye ep, but the dub music SUCKED. And Poached Ego wasn't as emotional in the dub..
