  • Hey, I got that Tascam 4 Tracker!

  • dude you would kick ass in a band!

  • it doesn't take skill to copy someone else guitar riffs or solos, it takes skill to put your own emotion into, great job man!!

  • Great rendition! You are very skilled, and I would love to jam with you! We salute you!

  • U AGAIN!!!!!!! LOSER!

  • Cool man, how do you manage to swap between guitar and bass like that without putting it down?

  • @thezivmaster

It's the same guitar. I just flip it over.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @AnubisXII damn anubis, i think you're on to something..

  • you f.....ing rock nice work bother

  • Nicely done, normally someone who can play a guitar can not play a bass correctly. Only a true bassist can do that.

    grin

  • lol 4:41 We all know Neil Peart isn't THAT slow! Great cover, man! Keep it up

  • Its back to the drawing board for me....brilliant effort!!

  • fukin A man you kick major asssssss !!

  • Good job man. Just curious. Is that a Gibson "The SG" in the back? I have that same guitar. Love it!

  • @Peter81369

Thanks, man. And yes. Yes it is a "The SG" hanging back there. 1979 model, to be exact. Such a sweet guitar, and you don't see too many of them around.

You can see it in action in my Vital Signs cover. I shoulda used my ESP for that one, but the "The SG" had a fresh set of strings and was ready to be spanked.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • GAY...GET A LIFE!!!!!

  • @AnubisXII

This is EXCELLENT, and very entertaining. I'm a huge RUSH fan, but unfortunately not a musician myself. Much respect to you for being able to play this. Awesome!

  • @AnubisXII

This is EXCELLENT, and very entertaining. I'm a huge RUSH fan, but unfortunately not a musician myself. Much respect to you for being able to play this. Awesome!

  • let me tell you something Bro....when it comes to taste, dedication, talent, and overall musicianship...you are BEYOND SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could pull off half of the shit you do.

    One word: AWESOME!!! \m/ \m/ \m/

  • Anyone can just say that the solos are not perfect, but deep inside any guitar player would kill to get into that groove you had going on. You nailed it, man.

  • @luistijerina :

Cool, man. Thanks. That's nice to hear.

Yeah. I shoulda spent a little more time on the solos. Especially the first one. I can't even stand listening to this because of those damn solos. But, at the time, I was so ready to be done with this, I really didn't care. And the first solo (A Lerxst in Wonderland) shows it. I was really uneasy and stressed out and it definitely comes through in the recording I had to convince myself was good enough to keep.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @AnubisXII That first solo in La Villa is my favorite solo of all time, I love how it builds up and how you can feel the intensity radiating from Alex's guitar. I don't know how a player can put that much feeling into each note. So, you've probably guessed that one solo is sacred for me. You did great, believe me. The only bad thing about the video is probably the recording/edition but I say your equipment would sound great live.

  • at first i thought this was a joke video made by rush themselves and everybody had swapped instruments, Neil on guitar ;) but then i was like holy shit its a cover haha

  • Your like John Paul Jones. You play many instruments

  • need more work on the solo...

  • fucking amazing man

  • thought ya were playing air guitar for a bit...on YT ya nvr know ...nice.. i think its one of their coolest arrangements they did ...

  • Just incase you haven't figured this out already, you sir are a fucking badass!

  • dude, you like rush, eh?

  • Holy crap dude...

  • Have to admit.........not bad...

  • DUDE!!! You ROCK!!!

  • i play the volume swells during the lead part on a strat so i can manoeuver the volume much easier. Lifeson uses a Volume pedal because like you in the video, he plays a Gibson which is much harder to operate with the volume knob being so far away from the strings. Rock on regardless.

  • For The Final doubt, is that a Rickenbacker 4003 or 4001?

I could´nt tell which one was it...

    Great Video, amazing skills

  • @tonyjp83

    4001.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • this is a cover, holy shit dude, i minimized the screen before it started, and picked it up a few mintues later and im liek wtf thats not alex or geddy. dude amazing

  • @edma111

Dude. Cool. Thanks for the comment.

  • Two words come to mind: Blown. Away.

And then I think for another second and Wow, Hold crap, OMFG and Amazing come to mind, but If I had said that "ten words come to mind", that wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic.

Seriously though man, well done. Really stunning.

  • @Boogra

Dude. Okay.... Two words. "Thanks" and "Man".

    Or... Cool. Thanks.

    Thank. You.

    For. The.

    Comment. Sir.

    Rock. On.

  • awesome, so what is your main instrument bass or guitar? :P

  • i am impressed LOVE IT

  • Nice job! Aside from the playing, you deserve a medal for programming Neil's intricate drum part! I'm a drummer, and have loved and studied Neil for 25+ years!

  • nice which one is your main instrument the guitar or bass?

  • Very nice

  • Rush's best instrumental.

  • Also, do you like the les Paul for this song or jwas it just a random choice?

I'm using a Strat for it but I do have a Les Paul (Epiphone) and was wondering if the choice was intentional.

  • Reply to Dangela81:

Well... The Les Paul is my baby and my first choice for everything. But sometimes a song calls for something different. But to me, the Les Paul is the ONLY guitar for this song because the volume and tone controls are friggen sweet. Nice smooth feel with a good roll... And the pick up selector switch is right up there, so you can change pick ups mid-stroke.

And for your other question... Usually with Rush, the bass is less stressful. But with this song, I prefer guitar.

  • Love this video. I'm learning this song and have watched this a few times for hints as to what I'm missing. Well done.

Do you prefer the bass on this song over the guitar? Just curious since Rush are pros on all three of their respective instruments.

  • wow

  • Brilliant Axe work, my man!

  • VERY very nice. Impressed to see such ability on bass and guitar.

  • Jesus Christ!!!

  • i just want to thank you, very much, for what yer doin here with the RUSH tracks. i like yer style, yer humour, and, of course, your extraordinary musical capabilities. i've loved RUSH all my life-1st concert ever- hemispheres tour, at halloween. 1st time i came across these pink little pills, microdot in size-same concert-waaay too much fun. so anyway you've inspired me to take on some of the more difficult passages-thanks bud

  • @wishwizard100

Dude. It's nice to know that I've inspired someone. But that's you tube, man. Half the stuff I've done I would have never tried, simply because it's easy to convince oneself that it just cant be done. And then you find a nine year old blind kid playing CygnusXI on a left handed bass guitar with only three strings, and..." Woah. Maybe I can play that..."

For some reason it seems easier to learn something once you've seen someone else crack the code.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Dude you crack me up...you are really something else........what are you? By the way on 4:33 are those drum rolls electronic or does a guy actually play that fast?

  • Reply to Contact1araya:

    Thanks, man.

And, with regard to your question... The answer would be "yes".

The drums you hear are indeed electronic. I programmed them using Kawai drum machines.

And, yes. A guy actually does play that fast. Theres two that I can think of right off the top of my head. One would be You Tubes Pauliewanna, and theres this other guy, umm... Neil something.

And I can only wish to jam with either one of those hosers.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Neil Peart is who you are talking about.. The Drummer of RUSH themselves. How could you not remember his full name? just wondering haha, nice playing though! was great to hear!

  • Comment removed

  • That was obviously sarcasm >=/ you couldn't tell that?

  • wow. amazing.

  • Oh man, that was wild!! You deserve more views than that! love the editing. Heck, the way it was made gives it an old-school vibe. Awesome stuff... just as cool as your username.

  • Keep it up! This is by far my favorite song by RUSH!

  • Nice one. Cooking piece of work. Possibly the most technically difficult Rush track. I enjoyed watching and listening....I can see a good sense of humour in there too with that vid.

  • That was a Amazing cover man!

My favorite part of the song is 3:30-4:07

  • this is my 2nd fav rush song of all times, right behind the full 2nd side of hemispheres.. really nice job on this. i can understand about the sync, and see you are playing this. must be difficult. nice work man.

  • Bloody awesome mate, really really good!!!

This RUSH tune has always simply blown me away, even better than YYZ in my opinion..........

Very impressive!! I'm a guitar player, and a Rush fan, and have messed around with this tune, and can plays parts of it......Thanks for posting this!!

Keep up the great work, AnubisXII. : )

  • nice job!! by far my favorite rush tune of all time....keep it up!

  • is that peart haha?

  • poser!

  • Hmm... poser...

Isn't a poser someone who tries to be something they're not? Someone who is trying to be cool, but really isn't? Or someone who acts like their opinion really matters, but nobody cares? Someone who uses someone elses videos on their own page so it doesn't mirror the emptiness of the way they feel about their own existence? Someone who is judgmental, yet fears and hides from the judgment of others?

Or is it someone who tests themselves and posts the results for others to judge?

  • Haha. That's what I thought.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • play something without the original recording so far out front in the mix. i can't even tell that you are really playing. the video and audio are so far out of sync it looks like you are playing air-guitar.

  • Dude. That is my recording. All my videos are recorded in my home studio. The only thing that you hear that isn't me is the drum machine. It is flattering to hear you say that, but man... Yeah. I wouldn't want to seem like I'm hiding behind the original recording, so I just do it myself so there's no chance of that happening.

And that 'out of sync' crap really pisses me off. I hastily tried repairing it and in a couple spots and you can see the repairs. I should have taken a little more time.

  • Fantastic!

  • Brilliant.

  • wow. Not exactly an easy job playing Rush! Oh and where's your Floyd Rose on the Les Paul? lol. Only Alex Lifeson can get away with that!

  • Great job dude.

  • whats a good distortion pedal for this song?

  • Comment removed

  • Wish you did the acoustic intro....but it didn't matter, u nailed it, great playing!

  • Reply to Bastardsofdecent92:

I wish I COULD do the acoustic intro. That is one wicked riff.

    thanks for the comment.

  • I'm sure you could, it's not as difficult as it looks...and sounds lol :P. It's mainly hammer- ons, and it only uses frets 0 1 3 and 5 I, I reckon you'd be able to play it :P and np

  • Awsome playing dude but is the video sped up at parts? because it looks sketchy every now and then. 5 stars!

  • Reply to Rushworshiper92:

Man... that bugs the heck outta me. The video and audio kept going out of sync, so I went to the worst possible places to do the repairs. I had to either cut tiny sections from the music to sync it up, or stretch the video. I guess I really could have reshot those parts, but... I'm just a lazy guy.

Take that as a lesson from me, boys and girls. Do what you know needs to be done, or live with the consequences.

    Thanks for the comment.

    And... Rock on.

  • Love your vids man! You seem to really love music.

  • Awesome job man great bass tone and awesome editing.

  • OK, I forgave the drum machine. And believe me, that took a lot.

But your guitar is WAY out of tune at 2:15 and again at 2:26.

The saddest part of watching this video is this: one of the most technically involved songs by Rush, the band many of us grew up worshiping as gods, was not as special as we used to think. Even tone-deaf people can Google tabs and fake La Villa Strangiato.

    ..|..

  • 66drummer:

Ooh, it sounds like SOMEbody's got that "not so fresh" feeling. And after all that hard work I did for you. At least you've forgiven the drum machines. That's a relief. To show my gratitude, I will forgive you for watching my videos.

You ever notice that those snotty little bitches that have nothing nice to say will not post their own videos? Sure. They'll claim to be some big shot, but really... really they are nothing more than a stinky sack of assholes.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Any chance of seeing The Main Monkey business at all? Figure that'd be a great instrumental to cover. Truly outstanding work, on both instruments and some of the most entertaining video on YT. Please keep the content coming!

  • Supurb job!!!!!!!!!...this is a awesome tune ,, fun to play...although i never played the solo..LOL

  • You're pretty damn cool.

  • Pretty damn good!

  • Would you be so kind as to teach me how to jam out too? Thank-you

  • I think you are better with the bass because I saw no mistakes there. literally.

  • Crazy, I might try to learn this on drums. I don't get how you can play all those instruments that well.

  • Good comeback. I'm giving you this one!

  • Haha. Cool. I'll take what I can get, man.

  • you got the sound on the solo all freaked up. Sounds too muffled!

  • Rushrules65:

Hmm... The sound is all freaked up during the solos... I'm gonna have to blame Terry Brown for that one.

I called him up and told him what my situation was. I said, "Hey man. I'm doing this video and the solos sound all freaked up. I'm running my Paul through a near-dead GK preamp into this Peavey I bought used in 1990, miking it with a turd, using 4 dollar software loaded on to a computer I got off someones curb on trash day. Any suggestions?"

    He said no.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • but it´s not working that way.

actually you don´t use the volume "knob"

alex lifeson never did I watched it.

he used his delay or echo effect and sort of

    muted it (palm)

  • Very Impressive!!

  • 4:25 That's some win right there.

  • Bad ass dude! The SG loves to watch and the Rick 4001 sounds great. I would let your Les Paul watch with the SG and invite an ES335 to sit in on this song. I would love to hear you play some pre-Peart stuff with that Les Paul. Great Job!

  • excellent cover but in the vol pedal solo in the middle your bottom 2 guitar strings are very out of tune but otherwise excellent best rush song

  • nice job, really, but loose the mullet.

  • Excellent, awesome, perfect.

You nailed Geddy's bass tone dead-centre on the head.

  • very nice covers and video my friend.

  • How come that SG is just a-sittin' back there? You don't use it in your vids. Poor thing...

  • Reply to Fanofthemusic:

    It likes to watch.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • this is amazing but your video of xanadu is the best..

  • Amazing rendition dude!!!

  • excellent

  • you look like neil peart in the 70´s!:)

  • whats the melody at 4:13 from

  • Reply to Rainbowmonkey27:

Hey, Rainbowmonkey27. Good to hear from you.

That melody you're talking about is from the Raymond Scott instrumental, "Powerhouse", recorded back in 1937.

It's a pretty cool little tune. You should give it a listen.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • outstanding performance is your norm!

  • You, my friend, are Insane

  • Do you record your own drum tracks, or do you have someone do them for you?

  • Reply to Fanofthemusic 1090:

I programmed the drum track using a Kawai R50 and R50e drum machines. I wish I had a real person do the tracks for me. And a real studio to record them in.

I just recently purchased some cheap electronic drums on ebay, hoping that I can maybe wing it through some drum parts here in the near future, but I don't know. I don't think I'll be able to do Rush, but I'll have to do something.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • yeah, cuz it would be too perfect if you could do Alex, Geddy, AND Neil's parts. Anyway, you're amazing.

  • I loved every minute, but you're missing a few pinch harmonics. Bass was also awesome, it was almost on par with geddy.

  • Great

  • Loved this song since it first came out. It's a workout just to *listen* to, I can't imagine *playing* it. Incredible job man.

  • best guitar solo ever created

  • Excellent job man! BTW, is that a Gibson (firebrand) SG over your right shoulder or the Walnut version?

  • my first rush album back in 78-79? the girls always thought the cover looked a little gay. still sounds good. then farewell to kings. everyone thought i was crazy for listening to rush.

  • Journeyquest:

I must agree with the girls on that one. It is certainly their gayest album cover yet.

But the music made up for it. Awesome album, great story.

A Farewell to Kings lead into Hemispheres (Cygnus XI Book I). I love the way the pilot of The Rocinante was torn apart by the black hole and believed to be dead. But as the song ends, you hear this faint heartbeat...

And suddenly, he appears during this fierce battle on Hemispheres to unite the opposing forces and change the fate of man.

  • dude i know what you are saying about everyone thought i was crazy for listening to rush. I am 15 and im in high school and im like the only kid that likes rush in like the whole school. But anyways this was one of the best covers ive heard of this song, sweet that u played bass and guitar too.

  • dude im the exact way, im 15 and go to canon mac in PA and i swear im the only one that loves these guys. But with music like this how couldnt u

  • nice but the solos were a bit messy

  • Rainbowmonkey27:

I have to agree with you on the solos. Alex is very difficult to duplicate. I recorded the solos over and over and over again. Each time, I would get a little more stressed out about it. I think it comes across in the recording. I don't mind the 2nd solo, but the first one should have been less edgy and more relaxed and defined. I should have walked away for a week and then tried the solo one more time before mixing it down.

But, yeah. This song kicked my ass.

  • i love the special effects especially the floating brains lol

  • great vid how long have you been playing.

  • Nice! How do you like that black Beauty??

  • Response to texasguitarist94:

    Very stupid question, sir.

I love it. I couldn't imagine what life would be like without it. Not just the playability, but it's presence is one to behold. The way it looks. Standing there in all it's beautiful awesomeness. Waiting for me...

Hey man. I hope you understand that I was just joking with you about your question being stupid. It wasn't stupid at all and I was happy to answer it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Haha. Yeah I knew you were joking. IM thinking about doing a spirit of the raidio cover.... But I dont know the break right before the bridge... How long have how been playing?

  • Did Rush get the part at 4:10 from a Tom and Jerry cartoon? 'La Villa Strangiato' is a great instrumental. 'Trees' is a great, old Rush tune, too.

  • Reply to cvucla3:

I think you are referring to the song, "Powerhouse" recorded by the Raymond Scott Quintet in 1937. Another great song.

Look it up. It's a grooving little tune.

    And thanks for the comment.

  • Far out mate! You are like Alex Lifeson & Geddy Lee rolled into one. We like Rush in Australia but they've never played down under. Did you ever see them play live?

  • Reply to neckshredder1:

Hey, man. I haven't missed a Rush concert since 1984, and they always outdo themselves. They just keep getting better and better.

This year I had the privilege of catching them in New Orleans and Dallas in the same week. Excellent seats to both shows.

I had no idea they never played in Australia. That's got to be a real drag. I feel for ya, man.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Dude! I've been checking out you're other Rush vids & you're devotion to Rush is on par with my own. I've been known to go for longer than a year playing only Rush songs on my guitars. Some might say I'm a one-dimensional Rush freak!

Perhaps you might feel inclined to help your poor Rush-starved Aussie bro's by signing the online petition I found,(search-Rush Australia petition). I'm sure once you sign the floodgates will open and 1,000's more will follow!

  • Dude. Just signed it. I also posted a link on my channel. And I'll put something on my myspace thing as well.

Don't worry, little buddy. You'll see Rush.

They just have to be reminded every once in a while.

  • Damn, I got exhausted just watching you. You absolutely shredded that. That's a helluva song to pull off...especially with all the intricate timing. You're the master of guitar and bass. Way to go!!

  • Wow. Thanks Brian.

  • niceeeeeeeeeeee

  • jesus christ the bass run was perfect.

  • narcio:

    Sure thing. Which one?

  • wow, you play with such great feel, im sure you could do limelight, how did you get the drum BT or did u use machine?

  • hahah2233:

Hey, thanks. But, man... That Limelight solo has never been something I could pull off without sounding like a badly trained half-deaf monkey with a detuned WalMart guitar.

But yeah. The drum sounds you hear in all my videos are from a Kawai r-50 drum machine that was born back in the mid eighties.

Actually, they don't sound that bad until the sound is compressed (or whatever it is they do) to make it small enough to post on youtube.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • ya, but can you play john the fisherman on expert level?

  • Let's say that your playing is amazing. I just want you to do Limelight. It would be wonderful.

  • superoli17:

Hey thanks. That's nice to hear.

But one thing I won't be hearing is me playing Limelight. Ugh. Alex is too amazing. That solo is way out of my grasps. I just can't get that feel he has.

But do you like Xanadu? Will that work? How bout if I do Xanadu?

Well, what a coincidence. I just happen to be in the process of thinking about doing that one.

Without all the wordy things, of course.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • You're welcome! The coincidence is that Xanadu is my second favourite peace by Rush.

    I'm just waiting about it.

    ;)

  • Geat bass tone! This is one of my favorite songs, thanks for posting this video.

  • awesome.

i've seen only 1 other good cover of this song before this. thanks for doing a great job.

  • super playing again ,bring back the fun in the guitar world.you are inspiring me to learn that .cheers Andy

  • 5/5 like always!!!

  • excellent

  • Are you the bassist in Triumph?

May be a dumb question.. but my god, you look like him.

  • Dude!! Sick!!!! 5 stars for playing such an awesome tune quite well!! In the Matrix, no less. ha ha ha ha ha

  • Wow, man. That was some smokin' stuff. If only Rush had had you as their bassist and guitarist, they would have been... different.

Thanks for the guest appearance. I expect 50% of your profits.

Oh, and I hope you don't intend to ever sell your Rickenbacker; the resell value goes way down when you do that to the neck.

  • The man with the unusual signal path for recording bass strikes again... and it's still sounding grand.

The funny thing is, I just watched Attempto de Feebleatito and I don't think this clip is any more in sync than that one.

I also liked the hat you wore in that video more - the stripe on the hat matched the stripe on the Ric's neck, body, and headstock.
