My brother was a Navy Corpsman, he taught me how to shoot assault rifles years ago. Also taught me about Center Axis Relock with pistols, How to Field dress wounds, The military alphabet, and most important he taught me the 5p's (Practice, Prevents, Piss, Poor, Performance) When the shit hits the fan, i'm ready.

@LaMorthh yur ak 74s do more damage and are more reIiabIe and they carry more buIIets but are sIower to reIoad. but our m16/m4s are more accurate and customizabIe they carry Iess ammo and are faster to reIoad. saying which is better is a matter of opinion and situation. but i Iike customization because i shoot in many different ways. so its the m4 for me. but thats between the 2. if i couId have any gun it wouId be the HK G36.

Not sure how well my point of view compares but here goes.

The way the RPK is built, the recoil will be lighter thanks to the extra weight and the lowered back end of the stock seems to be optimized for the prone position.

Obviously, it's not as maneuverable.

You handled the recoil like a beast, but the way you insert the mags is awkward. Did they teach it to you that way? I've seen a couple other GIs do it the same way.

@austinismadcrunk That's because the magazine for the Ak-47 has a small groove that you must first connect before you can seat it. You cannot simply slam the thing into the magazine well, hence the "awkward" looking mag changes. It takes a lot of concentration to do under stress, so while it might not look very fast, 90 rounds in less than 30 seconds with three mag changes is pretty good- even with the small mistake I made on the last one.

@ericstephenvorm What do you guys think about the emergency style reloades where you use your next magazinr to flick out the empty one. Also never take your finger of the trigger. Try using the hand on the hand guard to reach over the weapon while tilting it 45 degrees to rack the bolt.

@ChazOneZeroSeven the deal is they're fun to shoot and some soldiers actually prefer ak's...a vietnam soldier told me when they had a chance to take one off a dead viet kong they would use it in battle...I don't think soldiers are allowed to use them as primary weapons...

@ChazOneZeroSeven Technically you are not supposed to take captured enemy weapons with you and use them instead of your issued weapon; however training with enemy weapons on the range and using them if you run out of ammo is allowed as far as I know. This guy is on a team that is/was training the Iraqi Army so he would be doing this on a daily basis.

It's the user not the gun. You can give a barely trained militia M4's and you can give highly trained US soldiers an AK, obviously the chances are one sided to the US soldiers.

@lethalbullet1 well just because you have a good user doesn't mean that ballistics don't mean anything, the .30 caliber bullet that the ak47 uses drops much faster and at much less distance.

and only certian aks are "shit" like the afghani ripoff aks or the ones that have been in use since the sixtys with their barrels rifling shot smooth. ars are good but aren't chambered as loose and after a few hundred rounds can jam up a little while an ak wouldn't, i like both very much is my opinion.
