I remember seeing them at the lyceum many years ago and if my memory's correct, Mark Ashton sings the soft bit, then Steve Gould comes in with the "hard" bit. On the album, Steve Gould sings all the lead vocals. One of my favourite Rare Bird songs is "Down on the Floor", could be the shortest song I've ever heard but very beautiful.
Still so true. This song, a protest against those who will not share. Even worse, taking more than we´re in need of, and let the others die in poverty, hungry.
Why is it possible that in the years that went by, since this song was made, man even get more greedy, more thinking about his own wellbeeing? So many young people in the seventies tried to make a difference, tried to warn us, by songs like this one. And what happened.. This world is not a better place, all sympathy is gone with the hope
@vivianmacpeace At least those of us with conciousness let us never abandon hope and become parasites and ignorant like the majority.. I know its painfull but there are other values that matter more than money, power, influence, status and all the fake ideals the cruel and false society is presenting as a "must" in able to live a prosper life.
@ElGentoo I believe the matter is if human being truly desires to change then everything will be realistic. I believe it is so simple and easy to do the right thing if there is a true intention.but humanity is mostly run by those who believe against humanity.
To this day Rare Bird is highly underestimated!!! This is without any doubt one of the most talented bands in music history!!! They never got the credit they had the right to, and what a shame that is, realy..Steve Gould has an amazing singing voice, they were all talented realy..although they' dd change their line-up several times!!! Their albums have to be checked out people
I didn't know this video. However 1971 is wrong. The single was released in Spring 1970. It topped the French charts during the Summer but did only #27 in TOTP always in 1970.

The words still ring true after all these years..... wonder why they haven't been used as the background to a famine appeal?

Half the world hates the other half?
No, of course not, only a little fraction of it, like 5%, has all the food.
The world is unfair and we need to straight it up.
Democracy is the next step. Real Democracy with a big D.
Stand up and fight for Democracy.
The power produced and performed by people alone.

@insanzeba
Yeah ... like they had solve all humanity's problems yet nobody understood it.
It's not sufficient to point out what doesn't work, but one has to find a (realistic) solution in order to solve it.
