This poor town was so horribly abused by the tsunami. Even while it's completely submerged by the first wave, the second wave comes in ON TOP of that already-high water level.
This video is particularly valuable because it starts by showing the ocean in recession, and you can clearly see the harbor and the tsunami wall before everything is entirely inundated. Then, when it's all immersed, you have a sense of amazingly deep the water is.
The first wave seems to be faster and more powerful than the second one but both of them definitely caused comprehensive damage to houses and infrastructure. It's eerie how everything is calm and normal at first, and then all hell breaks loose. My thoughts go to the victims and their families in this terrible disaster :(
that guys voice grates on me. I hope he made it out ok though.

And the subsequent waves just kept coming, too.

@hebneh It is lie. It was not completely submerged. There is only small part of town on this video.

@english88ubc actually it's more like 'amazing' and unlike in english, in japanese it can have either good or bad connotation

@english88ubc >:-[ No it doesn't… It means "wow!" or "great" but it can also mean "terrible!".

Also I've watched many of these and when the wave hits there is a drumming sound. Is that what it sounds like or can you feel that beating sound?

@Coolboy81
but it seems only this way.
In every case the second wave is higher than the first.
If you think you made it after the first wave the worst will come with the second one !

@Asae2
To refer to these as 'Waves' really doesn't do them justice.
This is the Pacific Ocean entering your town. Simple as that.
