  • Would you recommend a all in one system or getting a receiver and speakers setup?

  • I have a question. i have the RX V-365.

How you can change the settings over the tv?

    monitor out?

  • I'm having the damnest time finding a Receiver that puts Full range to every channel. I hear that these do the fronts with full range, but I need all five. I'm gonna get Klipsch RF7's & RF82's and I want to get what the speaker is worth.

  • I hate you because of this system...jk

  • what your all system ?

  • Dont buy a new Yamaha receiver...ever. The best recent ones are the '59-63 series. The 65 series blows. Yamaha took away so many features its ridiculous.

  • I need for my yamaha rx 497 a chinch cable !!!!!!!

can you send me a link ???

  • did you use the ypao mic for equalizing and calbrating your speaker?

  • I'm thinking about grabbing a RX-V663 soon, this is a strange place to ask for audio advice but how do you think this model compares to similar products from Denon, Marantz, Pioneer and Onkyo? I'm gonna be pairing this up with a set of PSB B25 speakers.

  • if the are not too big you should get a NAD C326BEEor a NAD 355BEE

if u want to go large, get a NAD 375BEE

  • also the new yamaha doesnt have the AB speaker option so that blows you cant run presence speakers or two front channel speakers if you like to

  • Yea the 2009 Yamaha receivers are garbage. They reduced the amp and took away all of the features just for a couple extra HDMI inputs that I get with a $40 HDMI switch.

  • I have first hand experience with the new yamaha recievers and yes this is true of the lower end models. For instance the rx-v665 is nearly identical feature wise as the rx-v765 but the pricier 765 has a quality amp build and sounds much better.

  • @mpgxsvcd The new 667 is incredible though, basically the 663 back again :D

  • @FeeLtheHertZ Yea the newest receivers are very nice. I still use my old trusty 663 though. It just does everything I want it to so I never saw the need to upgrade.

  • this receiver is awesome! I love it! I only wish it had one more hdmi input, which im sure everything wishes the same. have to hook up my cable box with component cables because of that. otherwise the best for the price. also avoid this years yamaha in same price range

  • Sounds amazing!

What is your volume level set at when you first showed the Transformer clip? On mine to get the full effect I have to increase the volume to 20-25.

  • hi guys just wondering that reciever is any good or which one is good to buy?

  • I still like the receivers from last year. The Yamaha RX-V663 is still a good receiver but it doesn't have enough HDMI inputs and it doesn't display the HD audio codec on the front(ie: Dolby True-HD, DTS-MA). It displays "Straight" instead.

Pioneer makes a great inexpensive receiver as well. The 1018 was a great one from last year and the S-01 was an outstanding value.

The newest receivers are extremely light weight so their power output may suffer.

  • @ambitousguy

i got a rx-v465 in march 2010 and it is amazing yamaha receiver 5.1 ...u what did you got ?

  • have you try using the presence speaker input? how is it?

  • Hey i have a question for you,Why did you put PCM is it because when you past true the ext amp you cant decode dolby or ? because i have the yamaha rxv 1900 and it's not powerfull enought so i need a ext amp but i dont know if im gonna lose my dolby digital!

  • At the time I was using a computer as the source for Blu-ray. Back then you could not bit-stream from a computer.

Thanks to the new ASUS HDAV 1.3 HDMI I can now bit stream everything from my computer to the receiver.

However, it will only display "straight" when bitstreaming with the 663. The new 665 will display DTS-MA or DD-TrueHD. Both receivers are capable of bit streaming the new codecs though.

  • CooL

  • What speakers are you using?

  • ERA design 4's up front and ERA design 3's in the back.

They are extremely nice bookshelf speakers for the price(About $600 for the 4's and $400 for the 3's).

  • nice setup. why is it on pcm? i have a yamaha amp its the best amp ive ever had. its a yamaha rx-v1000rds 100watts per channel. and its hooked up to my pc too and my ps3 and my 40" lcd samsung rose.

  • It is PCM because at the time no computer audio device supported bit streaming of the new codecs.

I have the ASUS HDAV HDMI 1.3 sound card now. That gives me bitstreaming for DD-True-HD and DTS-MA.

The Yamaha V663 does have a drawback with bitstreaming though. It displays the word "Straight" in large letters instead of DD-TrueHD or DTS-MA on the front of the receiver. That makes it hard to know which codec the receiver is decoding. It doesn't matter, but the new receivers work correctly.

  • how many watts does the 663 have? ive got a denon 2808 and it just doesnt do it for me, maybe i shall convert..

  • i believe 90 wpc

  • I almost got this, but settled for the 1800 instead.

  • 106dB holy shit!

  • nice set up but wheres the ps3 or 360

  • I have a computer hooked up to the TV that has a Blu-ray and HD-DVD drive in it. That is actually how I did some of the tests. I have no real need for a gaming console with the computer hooked up.

  • Very nice setup i wish i could afford the 663 i want one so bad they have clear, clean, smooth power and lots of features yamaha rocks. What kind of speakers are you using?

  • The 663 seems to be a great balance of cost and features. My 663 sounds great and handle sthe pix from my Oppo 983 just fine. I'll be getting the speakers arranged fairly soon and then can use the sound tester that is built in.

  • i can get this for $360 shipped

  • Where?

  • How do you get the display menu to show up?

I have a sony bravia and,the receiver menu wont show.

    what am i doing wrong?

  • It looks like a projection and the color looks a bit off from the video but it's got to do with the compression of the video.

  • Trust me it is calibrated perfectly. However, it is a 4 year old Rear projection LCD so it definitely doesn't have the black levels of a new plasma. It didn't cost $5000 either! Anyway there is no way you could tell anything about the black levels of a TV from a youtube video. The compression they use decreases the color range.

  • All LCD's have poor black levels all they can produce are shades of grey

  • Excellent review and a great tutorial for those of new to AVR's. Please continue to post more videos about V663 as you discover more about the AVR
