  • If you're right handed and normally use your right hand on the xfader, i suggest learning the stab with your right hand on the record and left hand on the fader. your right hand will control the record a little better than the left hand.

  • Dude, I'm attending DJ lessons and I still think you're 10000 times better than my current teacher. I didn't even know what the heck is stab until I watched your vids. I've subscribed.

  • This has to be one of the best tutorial videos i've seen; thanks so much dude, i'm off to practicex3!

  • any news on ......what is the name of beat? ;)

  • angelo your tutorials have been very helpfull for me i really use them. i send you my gratitud from Distrito Federal Mexico City (Y)

  • what is the name of beat? ;)

  • Thanks DJ Angelo. Your videos is the reason why I ordered 2 reloop 6000 white edition with torque control. I am 34 and ready to learn scratching. Your videos are easy to follow and very helpfull.

  • whats the vinyls's name?

  • Been watching your tutorial videos over and over for about 6 months now (seriously) and I have really improved as a turntablist, I'm I'm still not as fast as i'd like to be, but I now have control over my scratches, which is more important, after 6 months I'm still going back to tutorial 4,5,6... and so on. Great videos Dj Angelo.

  • @thehiveride can you give us a tutorial im just startiing to scratch now

  • I love u man .you are the only one theching from A to z. .thanks from

  • Im learning all these combos at the end, theyre so sick. WTF!

  • This is an amazing tutorial! As an upcoming DJ, I would really like to use that sample you used in the video. Is there any way you could send me a link or tell me the name of it?

  • Good Varon !

  • have noob question is transforming just a bunch of fast stabs?

  • serato scratch is the way to go but thanks djAngelouk for ur tutorials they helped me to improve my turntable skills

  • how old were u when u started cuz im 16 nd would like to get into turntablism. By the way the tutorial was great

  • Holy shit dude, how you take a simple concept and just play the hell out of it is amazing

  • I wish I had turntables :)

  • fuk i cant even do this cuz my needle jumps wen i move a record too fast, any1 know wat i can do to fix this?

  • @dEafba5s Hi. You might need to set the counter weight on your decks to maximum (all the way forward). I do this & it's a big help. Also try not to be too heavy handed. Peace.

  • @dEafba5s more counter weight...turn the weight to the right.

  • Respect these are helping a lot keep up da good work

  • i like it!!! thanks for the tutorial!!!

  • What is that mixer?

  • @DJSkillMoves Hi. I know this reply is 2 months late but that mixer is the Technics SH-EX 1200. I think it's been discontinued now along with Technics analog turntables. If you're in the market for a mixer Stanton & Vestax do some good scratch/battle mixers for relatively decent prices. If you've got loads of cash then maybe go for 1 by Rane. I've never used a Rane but they've got a great reputation. Peace.

  • These are dope tuturorial man. keep it up. they are super helpful even though im not on vinyl. Im on Traktor Kontrol S4 but these are still extremely helpful tutorials. Its not vinyl but it damn sure is getting close. The decks on the TKS4 have vinyl feel so its pretty dope haha

  • wtf!...my fingers start bleeding!!! ;-)

    angelo...R*E*S*PE*C*T for that vids!!!!

    thnx!

    -peace-

  • What's the name of the song at 5:25?

  • Angelo, i need some help.. Im using a Behringer Mixer DX626, it's a poor entry level mixer, so i'm having trouble using a beat on left turntable and scratching with the right one (using crossfader)... What can i do to not cut the beats that are playing on left turntable when im scratching (with crossfader)?

  • argh, i cant master the 6:11 part there ~ damn =(

  • excuse me

how did you do the 6:50 sound

    i cant figure it out

    i have been practicing stab

but i still cant do the 6:50 sound

btw, thanks for making these videos

they are really great and helpful.

  • @zxsamuel

    its *6:05

    not 6:50

    my mistake

  • @zxsamuel

i think that are chirps not stabs.

  • What is the name of the instrumental on this video???... Hey by the way great tutorials.. they been a great help for me...

  • your a great guy , i see a lot of questions wich would makein me crazy :D but u staying cool and answer it all :D big up to Angelo.

    ur boy d.A.

  • in most ways, the gear DOES make the DJ...let me elaborate...if you buy cheap decks with 0 torque...no progress is made... just save up to buy good decks that will last you AT LEAST 5+ years (without replacing parts etc.) you don't have to get technics, but IF you have the money for em then go for it! they're tanks!

look at the Stanton str8-150's...if you want them to imitate the Technics, you can have the pitch go from +/-50% to the Technic's +/-8%. between the Stan's and the Numarks. Its50/50

  • Your videos are massif. Big up my selecta!!

  • love the intro

  • for all you djs looking for scratching samples

Hee haw brayks from DJ flare and

scratch roulette from DJ js1 is exactly what you need

  • DJ Angelo,

You mention that it's important to use a "scratch mixer." Does a scratch mixer also work well for mixing? Is it as simple as just changing the sharpness of the cross-fader if I want to use it for mixing as opposed to scratching?

    What's the track at 5:22?

  • Whats the beat called at the end?

  • grande dj angelo!!

  • Thank you very much for all of your time putting these videos together!! they have been the best videos to learn from!!! and I have search for many over the past years.. you're a very good instructor and turtablist.

  • I have a pair of numark tt200s which are directdrive vinyl tables and what I don't get is how everyone calls them newbie tables for scratching. What makes the more expensive vinyl tables so much better? Besides features like pitch bend and digital displays. Does the actual rotating plate move quicker or something?

  • think fanboys...

more exp tables have more features/arguably better build quality/etc. but use wt u got, its the skills not the gear that make the dj

however, get good needles to avoid burning out your records too fast!

  • ive been scratching bout 18 months and these tutorials r dame helpful, thell become a point were everything just comes 2gether and is like 2nd nature 2 u.u wont ave 2 think bout wot ur doing itll just happen naturally and sound gr8

  • Does it matter how many fingers you use for the "spring" or from what angle you attack it at? I don't want to practice bad technique. Thanks. :)

  • FUCKK thanks

  • Oh man this is awesome! But you are too fast for the begginers :)) Still VERY thanks for your tutorials!

  • I recommend learning stabs as an open fader scratch i.e. starting with you crossfader open.

It's important for combining stabs with open fader scratches like flare and chirp. If you learn it as a closed fader scratch you will close your fader each time between chirps / flares and your stabs which is redundant.

  • sweet video, sweet teacha

could any1 tel me a kinda timescale it takes to become decent

im not impatient, just dont really know where im at with this game at the minute

  • @jayblack1210..

How long is a piece of string????

I have heard of people going into competition after a year and then you have the other end of the spectrum you have me and I have been trying on and off for 10 years!!!!

Try to learn transforms, chirps, stabs, tears, baby scratch and then take it from there.....

Try letting a sound play and bring it back cutting it 2 or 3 times on the back stroke

also fowards.. cut it twice and then cut the fader off and then repeat

  • wots the vinyl he using 2 scratch

  • WHAT THE FCU!K!!!!!!!! HES SO PRO! :O

  • sweet

  • thanks mate that helped alot!

  • that was sooo helpful thankyou so much.

  • This was awesome bro.....Cld u please share ohh scratch sample.

  • that demo was tight

  • that last part was soooo sick.

  • Wow that demo at the end was great. Thanks for all the tutorials they are really great man.

  • is this possible using virtual dj only without equipment? You're an awesome DJ btw...

  • No its not - go buy some decks and take this seriously.

    Practice practice practice

  • as always Master Angelo with a good tut!

  • haha the turntable is on fire !!

  • i want dj hero :)

  • dj hero MY balls

  • mate, you are a legend. Very helpful videos, explained perfectly and easily understood. Well done :)

  • angelo your vids are awesome man. got a question or 2- there's a stones throw album i see a lot of guys use, red label with yellow stones throw lettering and it has an awesome groove and some other record ive seen, one of the sides has a black spade symbol (like the playing card) with white background, any clue which records they are? i know the stones throw wasn't greatly detailed ahah but ive been wanting them since i heard em first, thanks man

  • I NEED DJ EQUIPMENT!!!

  • your tutorials are awesome!

  • thanks~~

  • how did you create the intro song Angelo?

  • I produced it using Acid Pro

  • Ten tutorial jest zajebisty czlowieku!!

(this is f***ing kurwa good tutorial maan! very usefull! ;-) peace!

  • Another good tutorial. Thank you!

  • What is the name of this sample?

  • Not all scratch samples have specific "names". They are just popular sounds that are used by DJs to scratch with. You can find sounds like the ones used in my videos as well as instrumental beats to scratch over on almost all scratch records, battle weapons, DJ tools etc. Just hit the decent record stores and you will find some...

  • good tutorial

    keep it up

  • i bought a mixer for 50 euro (i know , i cant expect good quality) and my crossfader has gone broke after 2 weeks xD now i turned the mixer by 90 ° and i use the channelfader as my crossfader!

  • Creative, but you probably don't get as sharp cuts with the channelfader huh? I dunno, I love the sharpness of the x-fader

  • Btw it has a crossfader curve switch

  • Is there any point of me learning to scratch on a standard beginners mixer?

  • Yea, it's always worth practicing. I haven't got a great mixer but practice anyway. It just means when you get a better mixxer, you'll already have some experience.

  • awesome... but i have a question... where did you put the camera?!?!? xD

  • Thank you very much!!!you are awsome:D

  • Awsome tutorial. But lets say that you are in a band and you make your own beats how you can play the if you dont have them in vinyls?

  • There's a few options nowadays. If you wanted to be able to mix and manipulate the track you made, you could burn the track onto a blank CD and use CD turntables (such as the Pioneer CDJ 1000s) or you could save the track as an MP3 and use MP3-controller software + turntables (such as Serato Scratch Live).

  • Also, you can go to certain stores and get the mp3 pressed onto a vinyl. Might cost a bit, I don't know. I haven't looked into it but maybe it's something you could do.

  • if you can mp3 pressed onto vinyl i would advise to record your music to wav instead of mp3 with is much better in soundquality.

you can also play wav on serato vinyl but it takes up much more space in terms of megabytes.

  • Hi Brahhh, My last mixer stanton SK 2F use to cut off the music on the right with the fader.( on the right turntable). Now i have a Technics 1200 SH DX and this mixers cuts off the record on the LEFT??? Can i make it cut off on the right? Or is it just made like this? So some mixers cut off LEFT and RIGHT? Thanks

  • You must have had your Stanton SK 2F crossfader in reverse, (otherwise know as Hamster style) which is a feature available on most scratch mixers today. Your Technics SH DX 1200 mixer is an older model so does not have a Hamster switch. This means the crossfader will behave normally (crossfader to the left cuts off right turntable, crossfader to the right cuts off left turntable).

  • If you really want the crossfader to work in reverse, you'll have to plug your turntables into the opposite channels of your mixer. So plug turntable 1 into channel 2 of your mixer, and turntable 2 into channel 1 of your mixer. This will achieve the same effect of reversing your crossfader but bear in mind that the controls of each channel will also be reversed. For your information, the Technics SH EX 1200 that I use in my tutorials (which replaced the SH DX 1200) does have a Hamster switch

  • Amazing. Thanks man.

  • very well made tutorials man,

will be showing these around :)

    keep it up!

  • I have watched a lot of dj tutorials,

  • what is the name of the mixer you use in this video

  • Technics SH EX 1200

  • best tutor. i've got one question. i have only one deck which is reloop 6000mk5b and mixer stanton sa 3. That's my first set to scratching, but i understand that i have to buy another deck to improve my skills. Now i know more and i think about turntable like technics or vestax. is it good idea to working on different turntables? thx for every tut, keep doing it, i need some crabs instrunctions ;d

  • Its your call but personally I'd prefer turntables that match. Crab tutorial will come soon. Just so busy at the moment.....!

  • i thought you said no to knife crime, now your practicing your stabbing?

but seriously, im gonna give scratching another go after i purchased qberts tuts i just got confused but now i see the light.

    top!

  • cheers excellet, so well explained.

  • now someone needs to make videos like this and this good with hamster.

  • Hey Angelo. Big fan of your tutorials and showcase vids. Just wondering if there will be any more tutorials regarding scratch techniques? Your videos have helped me pick up turntablism fairly quickly. I've been looking around for some good tutorials regarding some more advanced techniques (crab scratches, etc) and nothing beats what you've got going. Very clear and informative, easy to follow. Thanks for putting these up, and great work on the production of the vids.

  • HOW MANY VINYLS!

  • omg the intro is amazin !!!! more vids !!!

  • I was just thinking about buying a scratch mixer, cause i have a crappy one. What do you think about Gemini PS 424?

    Nice Work, keep it comin'.

  • It doesn't look bad for its price but you get what you pay for with DJ gear, especially when it comes to scratch mixers. Always try them out if you can before you buy.

  • the best.. thanks dj angelo

  • man to me these tutorials are mor helpful than q's cuz you explain a way more than him u_u thanks a lot

  • Did you do all that video editing yourself? I really like your intro...

  • Yes indeed, all videos are produced by yours truly :)

  • did u do that mix at the star ov ur videos

  • Yes

  • at 6:30, the faster scrathes could you break those down slower for me? I love how that sounds.

  • Its just a Stab followed by a Baby Scratch done quickly and repeated 3 times

  • man ur a fucking sic dj

  • Great tutorial series! Can really tell a lot of thought has gone into it.

  • what scratch are you doin at 6:30? it is no stab is it?

  • I'm doing fast baby scratch + stab patterns

  • yo man im learning alot from you, keep it up man! cant wait for the next one!!!!

  • they should change the name from stab to chirp

i think thats what im gonna call it

    GOOD VID!!

  • I'll be explaining how to do a Chirp scratch very soon and you'll see the difference

  • hmmm be looking forward to that! the stab sounds chirpy to me

  • Chirps are way harder than stabs. Kind of the opposite motion of a stab, I think.

  • chirps sound way different..i've been chirpin' for over 10 years now..lol

  • brilliant teaching!

  • Superb tutorials matey! Keep em coming ... :D

  • i scratch hamster style and i struggle trying to do the fast stabs..im finding it hard to open the fader with my thumb and use my finger as a spring..(i cant do it fast enough)

is it possible to do faster stabs hamster?

    if so any advice :)

  • Stabs are more tricky hamster. I do stabs using both the thumb and movement from the wrist. Keep the xfader closed using your fingers then tap with light force from the thumb and a bit of movement from your wrist. I'll try and post a video for you. This is one of my weaker scratches! Keep practicing and be patient. Try not to rest your fingers on the mixer and rely soley on the thumb. Hope this helps! ;)

  • Thanks for stepping in and sharing your advice Short-e. You've got some nice skills and I hope you can offer more advice in future, especially for everyone who scratches hamster style

  • thanks for the tips. i will give it a try. this is definately the hardest scratch i have had to learn so far. :)

  • Many thanks Angelo! I will be scouting that out.

  • Another excellent tutorial Angelo! Great breakdown of the stab scratch. Gotta ask which 'Noisy Stylus Crew' battle tool is that? 5 stars mate.

  • Thanks buddy. It's called "Noisy Breaks".

  • Wow, you have a great way of explaining things. I wish your vids came out sooner.

  • i love these series of tutorials..

it looks like im gonna be practicing stabbing this week lol..#

i like the fast stabs towards the end of the video..sounds wicked

  • don't hurt anyone m8!

  • Hey buddy. Straight arm should help your needles stay in the groove better but you need decent needles also. I recommend Shure M-447s

  • absolutely wicked!!!!!!!!!!!

  • these tutorials help heaps, WAY BETTER than the tutors at rocking horse. how mnay more of these techniques are there? cause these are mad.

  • There's plenty more to learn, trust me!

  • Man.. i already cant wait for the next one! Best teacher on youtube. Im so chuffed i found these vids.

  • Cool video welcome back.

  • pretty cool tut. dude keep it rocking :)

  • MAGIK

    haha

    great tips :)

    thanks :)

  • Thanks again mate, great tutorials. :-)

  • this is great relly clear! really easy to follow! and best, made by a great dj!

  • Another awesome tutorial! I really like how you highlighted the names of the scratches you were performing during the "Stab Cominations" section. Do you do your own video editing? It's look really professional!

  • Yeah I produce the videos myself, whenever I get the time. Thanks for appreciating them...

  • Once again great tutorial, is there any difference between a stab and the chirp, or is a chirp just a slang term?

  • They are 2 different techniques. I will be covering the Chirp scratch very soon!

  • With chirps, I believe you start with an open fader and cut it as soon as the sound comes in. With stabs, you start with the fader in the close position as explained in the video above.

  • Thanks for another great tutorial man! I appreciate it!
