my sister watches thhe show. It was a catalyst for me and her trying to learn. We have always had an interest in sign language. I'm hoping to take some college asl courses this summer
this is sad every one of these videos the comments talk about switched at birth because god knows the only way people well every want to learn something new is when its on a popular t.v. show.
... you people sitting there because you want to learn it because of some stupid TV show. What about the fact that deaf people have rights to and they deserve to be understood and talk just like you do!
@ellock1998 Um it's not just some tv show. It is actually very inspiring. So maybe thats not the only reason we're here. Maybe u should start watching it. It's actually very good.
@123goigoi Excuse me? Maybe that TV show inspired us! Maybe we want to learn sign language too! Maybe we will need that skill someday for a career opportunity or if our child or loved one goes deaf. What if we had never watched that show, then we wouldn't be inspired, and would have never even cared. It's not called brain washing, it's called a good message. Don't judge.
@HaleJayRo I love sign language and I think it is important to understand what deaf people have to go through every day of their lives. I already know sign and I learned it for a friend when I was in high school. We went to prom together and he was amazingly sweet. They constantly have to try and read lips and it is a struggle for them to communicate every day. Why can't we just put in a small amount of effort and try and understand their language?
and there`s finally something positive coming from watching tv shows,i think it`s great that so many people got inspired,it`s always useful to be educated about the different things and not judge or fear them
@RamdomWeirdnessLol I know!! I love that show!! I can't believe the actress who plays Daphne isn't deaf but she has a hearing condition. She is great!!
ASL is my primary language. Your sign for clock is incorrect. You should take ASL 1 class again... The sign for "clock" is same as you sign for "time". Don't teach a language if you are not fluent in!
I love how the description says you learn Mom, Dad, baby, girl, boy, happy, and house when you really learn Later, Stop, Yesterday, Clock, and sorry. Awwwkward. :P haha
So I'm not the only one who's here because of Switched at Birth? LOL. I just stared watching today, and I really want to learn how to sign. I don't know how to explain, it just looks cool, the way the hand movements are. I like it. :)
L word is later, there are regional differences that's why it's American. There's British and Chinese and more. I started learning to sign a long time ago but switched at birth got me started again. I wanna watch the show and know eat there saying
Why does the title say were going to learn how to say mom dad baby girl boy happy and house. When i clicked on the video she is teaching us how to sign later stop clock and sorry. totally different then what it really says
@Peachiiz1 lol me to, that and theres this lady at work who sometimes comes in and i want to be able to communicate rather then just signing hi and ty
IF you really want to learn, you should learn like a child learn a language, learn some songs, learn the alphabet, learn to count, learn some words, learn some phrases, and keep learning!
In ESL you sign “I have two sisters”, I would make a sign for each words. In ASL you would sign “two” and “sister” and then point to myself so you‘re signing “two sisters, me.” ESL is the right language to use and makes sense. When I was little I always had a hard time signing with a few kids who used the ASL, majority of them never made sense. When the ASL users write an essay they never made sense on what they‘re writing and trying to say because of the ASL, our teacher had to correct them.
I recently began dating a guy whose mother is deaf from an accident as a child. His father, who has passed, was also deaf and so the guy i am dating is fluent in sign language. I would like to be able to talk with his mother without him sometimes and thought I would try your videos. I have not been back to see her or told him im trying but I want to surprise him without looking silly. How should I approach this? Also his mother is older and if we stay together id like to help care for her too.
@TheMistymysnow, the library has books, if you want to spend a little money, but the galludet sign language book, Galludet is the deaf school in Washington DC. I also learned by learning the word to things I do during the day, in phrasing!
I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, ----Deafornot dot c om----, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.
@SYNCEREINC Same here. I have a three month old and am teaching him sign language, English, and Spanish. Babies can learn to do signs before they learn to speak, so the baby will be able to communicate earlier. This cuts down on temper tantrums and stress, since the baby will be able to tell you what it wants.
I've wanted to learn sign language all year but I was so busy I told my self I would start when summer came out. The show switched at birth just came out around the same time and is actually educational to watch for me and these videos are helping out so much thatnk you! :)
@Madmoneymixer8 I'm here because I took 1 and a half years of sign language my freshmen year and half of my sohpomore year. But I had to swich to a spoken language for IB Diploma, I took Japanese. It's been about half a year and I forgot almost all of my sign language. I'm just here trying to remember things.
I want to learn sign language I know about 30 signs already but I want to learn more. Do you know signing teacher that can teach me for cheap?
