For me the fact that there are people posting videos on how to fix a bike that costs anywhere from 15.000 to 18.000 euro says it all. I've owned nine bikes and the BM has been by far the most dissapointing. Although I apreciate your effort Andy.
Just went to go for a ride and no joy starting my GS. Turned over for a good 30 seconds but no smell of unburned fuel at exhaust.
Dug out fuel pump controller. Bare zinc casting not black like I've seen on posts here and elsewhere on internet. Housing corroded but no water in well under controller
To be fair most owners don't have many if any problems and BMW Warranty support is very good. That said they're expensive bikes and coupled with high expectations of this marque the number of problems that do occur is disappointing.
I've been luck and regardless think the R1200GS is a bloody superb bike!
Some people never learn........I'm taking delivery of a Ducati any day! lol
True, there are some issues some GS's suffer from but BMW warranty services are second to none.....high expectations have a lot to do with any dissatisfaction.
The 1200GS is a great bike, in 15000 miles (yeah I know not a lot...but I couldn't ride for a long time after a crash on another bike;-) no problems with mine except the front engine cover (replaced under warranty) and that could have been prevented.

Brilliant video! Wish it was around before I had to replace my fuel pump relay. Any suggestions on where to get one of those controller bypass'? Thanks!
Thanks for the GREAT video!!
You Sir are my hero for the DAY!!

I think some of the early FPC's died due to over heating.....corrosion (furred up 'cooling veins') doesn't help.
See my website for prevention/maintenance tips ;-)

You pay a fortune for a bike that has a reliability worse than a Ural from 1968?
Fuel pump relay, Final drive failure, EWS malfunction, terrible buffeting, must be re-synced all the time, and so on..
The GS is a nice bike, but the reliability sucks.
That makes me stay away from BMW.

Oops, bit late now I guess....missed this comment :-(
Take a look at my website (link in video description;-) and there's instructions for a DIY bypass lead as well!
